I love seeing snakes in the wild, though they always make me jump ;-)) Wonder why that is - I don't jump when I see a squirrel or chipmunk or lizard in the wild. I did almost step on a rattlesnake once - but then took it's picture about a dozen times and "t" and I ended up poking it with a stick to see if it was dead, b/c it was so still (it was alive). I DO NOT recommend the stick poking maneuver!

I do have a healthy respect for snakes though, since we have poisonous ones in the area. I use my walking stick to poke where a box is supposed to be, and uncover it if necessary (if the area looks snakey ;-)).

We saw a snake sliding downhill about to cross the trail a couple of weeks ago - I grabbed Anna so she wouldn't step on it, and told Eli to "stop" - but he ran back to me - and the snake almost slithered between his feet! He was about 6 inches away before he saw it - lol! It was a black snake though so we knew it was harmless right off.

i guess my giant bold highlighted statement about please using a pokey stick wasn't big enough.

> The most dangerous thing that we have around here is rattle snakes.

i do hope you have anti venom close.

I noticed that you didn't quote the part of my post about me not noodling in rocks, where snakes hide (when they are hiding). Though I've never seen a rattle snake it person. I have seen two bull snakes though; they sometimes imitate rattle snakes to scare off predators.

You'll be proud though that on Saturday when I went caching I used a stick to poke in a hole. I also hid a letterbox. The only animals I saw on that trip were grasshoppers, birds and a squirrel.

Since you seem to be hanging on to your sicknesses, let's try a different angle.

Get rid of your debilitating infections asap, or I will sing to you while feeding you soas.

I know that GG is trembling at this moment, but for tigs' benefit, soas stands for "squirrel on a stick." Its a rare coastal region delicacy, which 99.9% of those who enjoy it have no idea what it actually is. Once you do, your appetite is never the same. I happen to be one of the 0.1% immune to its gastrointestinal uprooting, due to my high level of digestosterone, a made-up anti-body that causes cast-iron stomach-lining while depleteing sanity levels. Most people, however, simply cannot handle the affects of this dangerous dish.

Combine that with my singing, and even a straightjacket can't hold you tight enough.

Looking forward to hearing about your colds being gone tomorrow. ;)

Lovingly,
Bubs

Oh, you two silly-willies! Sing away - that won't be a problem for such a bad singer as myself. However, I'd much rather eat squirrel over chocolate, so keep your chocolate to yourselves! Caramel on the other hand....mmmm, mmm!!

Now, for that singin' to help speed up your recovery. Join in Mighty M!! You know the tune! And I already know how it affects Guzzy! ;)

"Cook it up
And cook it quick!
It's Nancy's famous
Squirrel-on-a-stick!

Its tough and chewy,
The innards are gooey,
But you'll be nibblin'
On one or two-ey!

Cause our secret sauce
Is O, so trippin',
And your fingertips,
You'll soon be lickin'

And once your down
From that saucy high,
More Squirrel-on-a-stick
Will get you by!"

YAYYY!! Squirrel-on-a-stick!!!!

Maybe I can come up with a caramel dipping sauce. MMMMMM!!!

A Very Special Day Indeed!!!

It's 12:01 am. Start of a new day. The start of a spectacular, fantabulous, monumental day, and I had to be the first to point this out.

Why is that, you ask? Hmmmm. Where do I start.... Why don't I start where it started for me.

Back in April of last year, I was going through some of my web links and started getting rid of some of the links I had bookmarked. I came across the link I had saved for years to LbNA. I said to myself, "I liked that idea, I need to check that out again." I did. The more I read, the more I knew I just HAD to get myself hooked on this whole "letterboxing" thing.

Then, in my research, I stumbled onto AQ. I signed up, and started exploring this vast new world, learning even more, seeing more things and gadgets. It was awesome! Then I saw that there were events! How cool is that?! And look at that! There was one local event that had just happened, almost next door to us! We had just missed it!! Hosted by someone going by the name "gollygee"...

And so, THAT was where it all began.

My first sighting of a local boxer, just minutes away from us. I was thrilled!

And from that first sighting until today and beyond, that person has become an inspiration and a teacher to me and BB3, and to many others along the way. She became our Mentor, my "Mighty M", our event guru, our helper-along-the-way, our car seat companion, and most of all our Friend.

From all her boxes planted to her ltc's, from her organizing the Nature Conservancy challenge to all her hard work put into our first big event at OMG, from her help on the phone while we were stuck on a clue, to that one special night in Ogunquit in a...ummmmm...place of unique interest...(along with littlmoon, I might add ;), she has been nothing less than an inspiration and encouragement of the utmost proportions, and BB3 and I would not be where we are today without her. So...

HAPPY EXTRA-SPECIAL FANTASTICAL, MAGICAL, HECK-OF-A-TRIP AQ DAY TO GOLLYGEE!!!!!

After all, there would be no Squirrel-On-A-stick in this world, if it weren't for gollygee!!!!!

Hmmmmmm, after thinking about that, that may not have been such a good thing...sorry to upset your stomach again, Guzzy. Ok, so I'm not really sorry. ;)

May your day be filled with nothing but good things today, Mighty M - we are ever so thankful for ya!!!!

(Disclaimer: It took me a while to learn that Goofy Girl is the official confetti-thrower, but I just had to jump on this one. It was just that important.)

Squirrel them away, wait until there's a shortage and hopefully make some $ ? Hit: Interesting
Camo them all right away and wait for the right location to happen? Hit: Educational
Camo, stick a logbook in so that they are ready to go when a stamp presents itself? Hit: Hug
Build a fort with them? Hit: Agree
Store them and one by one, and when the location/stamp/image is right, use it? Hit: Disagree
Camo them all at once and send some off to events for raffles? Hit: Hug
Throw them in a corner and worry about everything when the mood strikes? Hit: Huh

Snakes rule! Of all of God's creatures, they are the coolest. Seriously. They can climb trees without any hands, arms, fingers, toes, feet, talons, or elevators. There's a variety that can make themselves flat and leap from tree limbs and glide through the air like a flying squirrel. And, they can stick their tongues out at all of you without opening their mouths..... :]

(BTW, the flying snakes don't live in North America so all of you with phobias can now relax).

Awwww, you remembered! Thanks Mighty M! Though, BB3 would prefer the chocolate, so maybe half-n-half. ;)

Two cakes it is!!! :D

One year, and we're still learning and growing, and we've been so grateful to you and everyone else along the way that has helped us get to where we are now - we wouldn't be here today with you taking us under your owl-ly wing! Thanks so much Teach!

You're very welcome! I'm so proud! And in the words of Vince Vaughn in Swingers, "you're all growsed up!!!" :D

Of course, the "inspiration" from the Thor Mafia helped move us along as well, but at least now we have protection from swamp monsters! ;)

That Thor and his impenetrable powers of cute (and also minions). He's a great motivator. And thank goodness you have protection from swamp monsters. Did I mention that Thor hates swamp monsters? Just think, without letterboxing you never would've discovered the great delicacy that is Squirrel On A Stick!!! :D

Ummmm, Mighty M? Do I need to order you a tailor-made, monogrammed, silk-lined straight jacket? I can get you a great deal on one - I have a rewards card...

I am 5'2" also and I have seriously thought about getting a handy grabber that I have seen wheelchair or the elder use to retrieve things out of reach. Then I found a cleaver little way that a uh *cough**cough* geocacher used,... a small wire basket (looked like a fish basket with a spring lid) on a wire with the cache inside it, lowered into the hollow tree... this was awesome because 1) I didn't have to stick my arm in there (bugs, spiders and snakes, oh dear!) and 2) it kept the cache safe from critters (squirrel, raccoon) dry, off the bottom where water and moisture like to collect. Thinking to my self that would work also for boulder/rock crevasses too...

These are the random thoughts of the voices in my head, but I take responsibility for the typing, the use of the geo word.
