Description
It's that time again. For those of you new to Winter Fest, read below. Angel Winks was talking at the last event about someone else hosting for a change of scenery, so I accepted the challenge. This year's theme will be favorite book (either fiction or non-fiction only). Inquiring minds want to know - what is your favorite book and why? This event will be a small, cozy INDOOR non-traditional, laid-back event. The focus of the event will be on getting to know other letterboxers, enjoying friendships, exchanging signature stamps and personal travelers, and stamping lots of event boxes! There may also be a few surprises in store. If you have never been to an event, this might be just the one to "whet your appetite." We welcome you.
Letterboxers who attend will be asked to do the following:
1. Provide one (or more) event box(es) based on the theme, Favorite fiction/non-fiction Book. If you are not a reader, don't dispair. You could carve a book themed stamp based on a movie you loved that was inspired by a book. Hopefully, though, you love to read because I love books and would love to hear about a book that you love.
Event boxes need a handcarved stamp (carved by you or another letterboxer), a handmade logbook, and a non-traditional container. Creativity is encouraged, but not required. Disclaimer: Do not let this scare you away! Letterbox carves of all abilities are welcome.
2. Bring a copy of the book you love. We will have some sort of book swap where all who participate can go home with a potential new favorite book of their own. If you don't want to participate in a book exchange, you do not have to.
3. List boxes on AtlasQuest as event boxes.
HOW TO LIST BOXES 1. List box as an event box on www.atlasquest.com. 2. Do not write anything in the clue area. 3. Write down the AtlasQuest box number on your event stamp and logbook. 4. Link your event box to the event listing. Do this by clicking “Add Event Box” on the event page. Then type in the EXACT NAME of the box. 4. After the event, retire the box. You may plant and relist the box as a traditional box, if you desire.
EVENT BOXES Event boxes will be collected and displayed on tables for all letterboxers to access and stamp throughout the day.
SPECIAL EVENT STAMP: We might do a special collection of children's books for a local charity if people seem interested. This is to be determined. Give me some feedback. There will be a special stamp for those who donate.
FOOD - In order to keep this simple and cleanup easier, letterboxers will need to bring their own lunch, beverage, and snacks. There are fast food restaurants within about 10 minutes of the building. There is also a refrigerator and microwave in the kitchen that can be used.
A FEW NO-NO’s No pets. No alcohol. No smoking.
A FEW ENCOURAGEMENTS If you want to add to the fun and bring some additional HIPS (Hidden In Plain Sight) boxes or clued and or/ puzzled traditional boxes to hide either indoors or nearby outdoors, we welcome that as long as the book theme is involved.
Questions? Please AQ mail Dawnkey or me. We will do our best to answer.
More info to follow....I just wanted to get this listed!
Dec 5, 2018: Update
Dawnkey and I met and have hashed out details and clues so here is an update on the event.
I have spoken with Children’s Hospital and they are very excited to get a donation of new and gently used children’s books. So don’t forget to bring one to the event and you will receive a special event stamp carved by Dawnkey.
Besides all the event boxes, we will have some traditional boxes to find if you are so inclined - about 20-30. The clues will be in the library and on the cork board. Only “check” one out at a time, and after finding the box, then return the clue to it’s place(that way someone else is not looking for a box that isn’t there at that moment).
Lastly, I would like to encourage everyone to write something in the clue to your event box as to why the book you chose is your favorite book. I want to know why you love the book! I updated the clue on my box, so check it out!
Looking forward to seeing everyone!!!
Jan 1, 2019: One month away!
The event is rapidly approaching and is only about one month away. I updated the address of the event to make it easier to find, but remember that the church is right behind the Hampton Inn.
Things to remember to bring:
1. Your event box
2. Your favorite book for our favorite book swap
3. A children's book to donate to Children's hospital (optional)
4. Something to eat and drink.
5. Event checklist for your own reference
The clued boxes will be listed the day before the event in case you like to keep track of what you need to find at the event. Clues for the boxes will be at the event. There will be a "library" and you will just check out one book to find a box. Once you find the box and stamp in, then return the book to the library and check out another. There will be a special area designated for all the favorite book event stamps that everyone is creating. Don't forget that BaliWho is collecting caps for benches and will have a special stamp for those that bring her caps. Check out the listing in the event stamps section of the event listing. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!!
Any questions - please email Dawnkey or me
Jan 24, 2019: One more week
The event is one more week away!! We're looking forward to seeing everyone! This is all indoors so we will be nice and toasty. I've listed my boxes and Dawnkey will list hers shortly so you can have an idea what to look for in addition to all the event boxes. If you have any questions, please contact either of us. Don't forget your event boxes, books, plastic caps, and letterboxing gear! See y'all soon!
Feb 5, 2019: odds and ends
It was so nice to see everyone at the event! I'm so glad the weather became bearable again and didn't hinder anyone from making the trek downriver. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves - Dawnkey and I certainly did. There was an amazing array of stamps at the event. Great job everyone! I really enjoyed seeing what everyone's favorite book was and plan on reading the ones I haven't already.
If you are having trouble finding the Space Bear boxes I planted, here are the numbers:
Little Women 155990
A Blessing From Above 161545 (kangaroo)
Where the Sidewalk Ends 161557
Secret Garden 1555991
We look forward to seeing everyone throughout the year, and can't wait to see who will take the reins for Winter Fest 2020 and what the theme will be!!
