Description

Save the date! Another year, another letterboxer turning 50! I'm throwing PoPoBullyGirl a 50th birthday party, letterboxing style!

Jun 13, 2018: Event location and info
Hi all! A few months to go, I better get my act in gear! I have made reservations for the shelter! The event will be at Lyon Oaks Park in Wixom. Approximate address is 53039 Pontiac Trail.

The park has a $5 entry fee, be sure to tell them you are with the birthday party to get this rate! If you already have an annual Oakland County park pass, you will get in free. (The recreation passport doesn't work for this park). If anyone wanted to save on the parking fees and carpool in, the City of Wixom is located approximately 1 mile east. You could meet in the library/police station parking area.

We have the shelter for the whole day, 9am-8pm. They have a BBQ grill and I believe electrical available for crock pots. I'll double check on that to be sure.

We will have a pot luck. Please sign up for what you would like to bring. I will supply hot dogs and appropriate accessories. ;)

The shelter cost is $200. (That does not include other expenses that are involved, carving material, boxes, paper, etc). A $5-10/per person donation would be greatly appreciated to help cover the cost of the shelter, etc.

Dogs are welcome in the park. They have a large dog park where you can let your dogs run. You must stay with them in that area. If you have your dogs outside the run area, they must be on a 6' leash and within your control at all times.

I am not allowed to provide alcohol. But, if anyone wishes to bring any for their own personal use, you are allowed. Please act responsibly.

Here is the link to the park. You should print the trail map out ahead of time, the colors will be helpful! https://www.oakgov.com/parks/parksandtrails/Lyon-Oaks/Pages/default.aspx

I'm borrowing an idea from GypsyLadyBug; she's been collecting plastic lids for a park in her area that uses them to make park benches. I thought this was a cool idea, so I looked around our area to see if anyone is doing it. The city of Allen Park has a similar program. So, I am going to collect lids for them. Bring me lids, you get a special thank you stamp! Lids needed include: Medicine bottle caps, milk jug caps, detergent caps, hair spray caps, toothpaste caps, deodorant caps, drink bottle caps, flip-top caps (ketchup, mustard, etc), spray paint caps, ointment tube caps, lids from cottage cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, yogurt, peanut butter, ice cream buckets, coffee cans, butter containers, etc. Recycle #'s 2, 4 and 5.

That's all I can think of for the moment! Have a great summer! See you all in September!

Aug 20, 2018: 3 weeks away!
Hi all! The event is just under 3 weeks away! I hope you're having a great summer. I just wanted to send a couple quick updates.

Most of the stamps are fine being stamped in black ink, but several have color specific needs. Please stamp these in the intended colors for the most enjoyment for yourself and future stampers. You will need ink pads in black, blue, brown and green and markers in regular primary/secondary colors.

The shelter does have electricity, so if you want to bring something in a crock pot that is an option. Please sign up for pot luck items. I'm thinking that I will have the potluck available for lunch and dinner. Probably limited items at lunch (just the hot dogs and some snacks) and then the majority of the stuff out at dinner time.

Does anyone have a horse shoe set?

Spoiler alert... there will be a stamp at the event that has some requirements to obtain it. One of which is that you collect a Personal Traveler stamp from someone that you didn't have previously. So, be sure to check out the clues to those prior to the event. (There's a link at the top left of the event listing that shows all available PT's at the event).

That's all for now, see you in a few weeks. =)

Sep 5, 2018: A couple last minute notes
Hi all! A few more days to the big event! WooHoo!

When you enter the park, keep left passing the golf course. Go to the guard gate (If it's manned, tell them you're there for the birthday party). If you don't have an Oakland County Parks pass, you need to pay $5 for parking, there's a kiosk by the guard shack. Turn right after the guard to go to the Woods Edge shelter.

The parking area is immediately after you turn, but if you have anything to drop off, you can drive all the way up to the shelter for easier access. No parking right in this loop, unless you have walking limitations.

According to SpartanFans, soccer starts at the other end of the park this weekend, so there may be parking issues. I don't expect any of them to invade our area, but it's hypothetically possible.

The ranger does not know we are letterboxing and doesn't know about the boxes. I wouldn't expect them to ask what we're up to, but just in case, please just say it's a bday party or maybe scavenger hunt or something!)

The trails are mostly flat, gravel, grass or dirt. One of the trails in mildly hilly, but not too strenuous. The trails I've been on so far have been dry, but if we get any rain in the next couple days, there could be some muddy spots.

Thankfully, the weather looks to be breaking by Saturday, and the temps should be in the high 60s or low 70s (not this horrific 95+ crap I've been planting in). Looks like it should be a perfect day!

I can't wait! See you all in a couple days!

Sep 7, 2018: One last thing!
I recommend wearing long pants due to prickly pants and potential poison ivy!

Also, does anyone have an onion they could chop up for the hot dogs? I forgot to buy one!

Thanks! See you tomorrow. =)

Sep 7, 2018: ack!
The plants are prickly, not the pants!

And we have a volunteer for the onion, so we're all set!
Thanks

Sep 8, 2018: Thanks!
Thank you for coming everyone! I loved seeing you all again and I think everyone had a great time.... other than a couple hornet incidents! Eek!

Thanks to Shooz, Dawnkey and Angel Winks for your stamp contributions!

I believe all the boxes have been activated and are available for logging now.

I know there were a few mistakes in some of the clues. Could someone please let me know where they were so I can correct them?

Happy 50th to PoPo!

Sep 9, 2018: Thank You!!
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to celebrate my Birthday! It was a wonderful day and I appreciate each and every one who took the time to hang out with us. Thank you to Bali for making a wonderful event for me. I know it is a lot of work to put these events together and she did a fabulous job!!! I managed to get more boxes than I thought I would and want to send a special shout out to the Rabbits for putting up with me and my ankle. It was a fun day!!

Sep 9, 2018: AQ # correction
It's my birthday series is Aq# 297363

Sep 9, 2018: Rush stamps
There are two stamps in the Rush box.

If you want to record them both, the small logo stamp is box #297348, listed as an ‘other’

Sep 9, 2018: Aretha stamp AQ #
If anyone needs the AQ # for TrailTroll's Aretha Franklin stamp it is: 108962

Sep 9, 2018: FOMOCO #
I think the AQ # for the FOMOCO is 238769: The "Traveling FO MO CO".

I see CoffeeMug has the "Bully for you" event listed as the location on the other FO MO CO listing that Plymouth Seekers posted. but I think that's the "traditional" stamp. The one I logged it under is listed as a personal traveler. I guess it doesn't matter either way, neither listing is exactly what I'd want to call it. =)
