Hello all you fabulous Letterboxers! We are just about 6 months away from our event! We have met and came up with some fun ideas and a few requests from all of you!

THE NIGHT BEFORE!
Some of us have met and some not… let’s put a face to those trail names! We will have a MEET and GREET at Yesterdaze Bar and Grill/The Gathering Place on Friday June 29, 2018 at 5:30pm. This is approximately 4 minutes and 1.2 miles from Scales Lake Park. Be sure to bring your stamping gear for a few extra event boxes! (Yesterdaze Bar and Grill – 101 S 2nd Street, Boonville, IN 47601)

Here is a basic checklist/timeline of our next steps for this wonderful gathering…
FOOD:
We are cooking the MAIN COURSE – Crockpot pulled chicken sandwiches and we will provide paper/plastic wear.
So, we need sides, snack and treats from you! AND GO!

CAMPING AND LODGING:
Since June is a busy month for weddings, please be sure to book your campsites early. Registrations opened up January 2, 2018. We are camping on Lot 88. So, after the event if you want to join us for fireside fun, you are more than welcome! As for hotel accommodations, we are working on getting a block of rooms at one of the local hotels. Stay tuned 😊

Now, on to the Carving part of the event:
We are looking for STAMP DONATIONS for the following themes:
Star Wars - 15
Luau - 10
Teddy Bears – 5
Petting Zoo - 10
Southern Indiana – People/Place – 10
Fairy/Gnomes – 15
Hitchhikers/Cooties/Fleas
Deadline to receive stamps will be May 1, 2018.

And on to some more fun!
If you are camping, please let us know what site you are going to be at. We are going to have you (or us) carve a stamp and hide at your campsite for all to find! I need your site as soon as you reserve 😊

If anyone is bringing an EVENT BOX, please let us know!

And if you have extra LTC’s and want to swap, don’t forget to bring them!!

We will have a couple tables set up with some surprise activates! One includes POSTALS – If you have POSTALS just laying around, bring them to share with all! The rest shall be a surprise 😊

And last, make sure you get a ticket when you sign in for the raffle prizes given throughout the day 😊 We will award all prizes around 4:30 that afternoon!

Great Lakes Gathering: Tiki Time Luau Event 2018

Greeting Fellow Boxers! The 16th Great Lakes Gathering will be held Scales Lake Park, Boonville, IN for 2018, so… MARK YOUR CALENDARS for June 30, 2018!
Your 2018 hosts will be The 4 J’s, BAMM and JLSD0218.

We are three Girl Scout co-leaders for Cadette Troop 363. We have been co-leaders for 7 years to our girls and love every minute of it! We learned of letterboxing in 2014 through Girl Scouts and have been boxing junkies ever since.

Having said that, we attended our first event together in September 2016, hosted by Christmas6 at Lincoln State Park and had a blast! From then on, we have been on the lookout for events somewhat close to home. We found the Homerdoodle in the Country Event in 2017 in Danville, IL and attended! LOVED IT! The ladies did a fabulous job on everything. While on a trail we ran in to wonderful people and learned of the GLG event from Wisconsin Hiker and friends. We really liked the idea and thought it would be great to be a part of such an event. After lots emails and lots of talk, we are the new hosts of the 2018 GLG Event! This year’s theme will be the Tiki Time Luau (inspired by our recent Girl Scout Luau)!

For this event, if you are interested in donating boxes to plant or event boxes, message us and we will give instructions about mailing and continue to post through Atlasquest closer to the event date. Please instruct whether box is temporary or permanent.

For those coming in from out of town, we are located quite close (approximately 15 minutes) from the city of Evansville, IN. There are many hotels and places close to stay and eat at, not to mention over 200 boxes throughout the city. The park that the event is held at does have several camp sites with full hook-ups for campers and tents. There is a shower house and bathroom and the lake and beach will be open for business at this time. There are four cabins that can be rented as well. And another great option just down the road is our famous Tastee Freeze! Best homemade ice cream in town!

May 4, 2018: GLG Update!
May 4th - UPDATE

How exciting that we are 2 months out from the Great Lakes Gathering! We are so excited for this event to happen and can't wait to see everyone!

Upon entering the park, you will have to stop at the front gate and let them know that you are there for the event at the "Pavillion." They will then allow you in without paying the gate fee.

If you are camping, please send JLSD0218 an AQ message to let her know what your campsite number is. She is planning to hide boxes at each campsite that is being occupied by our letterboxer campers!

We currently only have 7 people signed up to bring/donate food items. If you are planning on bringing something, please go to the event page and click on "Edit Signup" and fill out the sectioned titled, "Potluck Items" to let us know what you will be bringing. All of the paper products have been donated, so now we just need side items, finger foods, desserts, etc... Here are a few specific items that we need for the day:

Relish
Pickles
Vegetable Tray
Fruit Tray
Again, we could really use everyone's support in bringing some kind of food item. Oh and there is a Walmart just 3 miles from the park, which may make it easier to stop and pick something up to bring if you are travelling from afar.

Jun 25, 2018: GLG update!!!
June 25, 2018
We are just 5 short days out from GLG 2018. We have been busy creating event stamps and planting boxes. There are 57 boxes planted on the trails and 10 planted as “stop & grabs” off the main road. There is definitely something for every type of letterboxer.

When you arrive on Saturday be sure to let the front gate know you are there for an event held at the Pavilion. If you fail to mention this, they will charge you $2.00 to enter.

The park is open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

We are having a meet and greet the night before GLG at Yesterdaze Restaurant in Boonville. Here is a link to the event, if you’d like to join us. https://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?eventId=3994

The expected temp on Saturday is 93 degrees. We are supposed to get rain this week so the low areas may be damp or even muddy. The trails are designed quite nicely and for the most part should be dry even after any rain that we may have.

It will be a great idea to bring bug spray with Deet. Tis the season for ticks!

Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m at the Pavilion. We will have clue packets and park maps marked with trail heads for you. Feel free to drop off your potluck items at that time.
We would appreciate any donations to help cover the costs of GLG so we will have a donation jar at the registration table.

Dig out those hitchhikers that have been hiding in your bag or even recently carved ones and bring them with you. A HH hostel will be there with many hitchhikers. Take one, leave one. Take 5, leave 5….whatever tickles your fancy!
You may want to print out personal traveler lists and event box lists. There are several event boxes that are located in the pavilion.

Just an FYI, there are 3 locations with running water restroom facilities. They are marked on the map with a blue and white restroom sign. There are a couple of pit toilets around the park but they are not marked on the map.

There is an event taking place from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. near the front gate in the “Skills area”. This event is called, “Take A Kid Mountain biking Day”. So if the front entrance seems busy, that is why. You may also see some guys out working on cleaning up trails. They have been notified of our event so we ask that you respect them working to make our trails better and be patient if they are in your way. There aren’t many who will be doing clean up but you could see 1 or 2 of them.

Thank you all for traveling to our small town in Boonville, IN! GLG 2018 is in the books and was a success. Thank you to everyone who donated stamps, made donations of any and all kinds and donated food items. You all ROCK!!! I look forward to seeing you all again in the near future.
