Description

We're taking over the Searsport Historical Society for the weekend!!! There will be tons of boxing, historic walking tours that will include lots of stamps, a chowder supper, and a 920 acre island that's been transformed into conservation lands just down the street. So much to do! Plan to spend the whole weekend enjoying a beautiful town and community in the Penobscot Bay region of Midcoast Maine.

Feb 3, 2018: Raffle Donations
The committee met today to plot and plan. We would like to hold a raffle at the event to not only defray any expenses that may incur, but to be able to give this wonderful historical association a donation to continue the hard work necessary to keep a town's history alive. If you would be willing to donate a raffle prize or basket, please let me know. Thanks ahead of time for your thoughtfulness! - Angel Treads

Feb 4, 2018: Adding two mini events and more!
Hi all - As Angel treads mentioned yesterday, the planning committee met yesterday to tour the town, the historical society and hammer down some details.

Also mentioned by Angel Treads, we will be having a raffle to help with any out of pocket costs to our committee and the remainder will be Historical Society for allowing us to take over their venue.

A few more things we came up with:

- We are listing two mini events to go along with the weekend event!
* Friday, August 17th 5-8pm we'll have a pre-event gathering at Curtis Hall (Searsport First Congregational Church's Meeting House.) Come to meet those that traveled from afar, to catch up on your exchanges, stamp up some PT's and event boxes, and get your cluebooks early. This will be a bring your own dinner event, and we'll have a PT theme for those who would like to carve to share. You'll find the event listing here: Friday Night in Historic Searsport, Maine Pre-Event Gathering
* Saturday night, August 18th @ 5pm, the members for the Searsport Historical Society will host one of Searsport's famous "Chowdah Supper" for the participants in the event. the supper will also take place at Curtis Hall. All proceeds will go to the historical society to help the upkeep of their property and to continue to allow young and old alike to learn about the town's Sea Heritage, Shipbuilding and Sea Captain's. On the Menu: Haddock Chowder, Homemade biscuits, pickles, and Homemade Pie. They will be offering a vegetarien choice, as well. The cost of the supper will be $10/Adults and $7/Children under 12. Sign up for the "Chowdah Supper" here: Searsport's Famous "Chowdah Suppah"

- Crafty Lobster will be designing a pathtag for the event. So make sure to watch for the details in future updates!

I think that's enough for now, but we've got plenty more to share in future updates!

Mar 20, 2018: If you would like to carve for the event...
Hi all - We are planning quite a weekend in August and the committee has posted a few trackers for help with stamps. If you are able to help, please sign up!

In the Year 1845

Fauna of Sears Island

We also have several more series we are planning and will be getting trackers up soon.

Also, Aiphid has agreed to carve our main Event Stamp, so can't wait to see what he coms up with.

Jun 6, 2018: Searsport Pathtags!
"Historic Searsport, Maine" pathtags have been ordered, and are currently in production! They will be available at the event for $3 each if paid by cash, or $3.50 each if paid by credit card (via square reader).

Jul 26, 2018: Fast Approaching
It's hard to believe this event is in less than a month.

Just a few updates and info.

Don't forget to let Crafty Lobster know if you want event pathtags. She's received them and they are beautiful! They will be available at the event for $3 each if paid by cash, or $3.50 each if paid by credit card (via square reader).

We will hold the raffle during the "Chowdah Suppah" so make sure that if you haven't signed up for that yet, please do. Also indicate if you need a non-seafood/vegetarian meal by adding yourself to the entrees. You don't need to be present to win at the raffle, and will be able to pick up your winnings the next day, but you'll miss a fantastic meal!

Charlene Farris, our Official Searsport Historian will be leading a 30-45 minute walking tour at 1pm on Saturday. There will be a series of stamps available only during the walking tour, so don't miss it. The walk will include the History of 3 of our towns most notable municipal buildings and she'll tell the story of scandal during the Civil War. (One of my favorite stories of our little town.) You can let us know if you will be attending the tour when you check in, she can accommodate all of us. You will love her stories, there is a reason why she is our town's historian.

We will have nightboxing at the Crary-Carlin-Coleman House after dinner on Saturday. The theme is about the things I remember while growing up in this small town.

I think that's about it for now!

Aug 4, 2018: A-planting we will go
Spending the weekend planting some stamps and planning the clues for the event. We can't believe it's 2 weeks away. There will be 100+ traditional stamps to find.

If you haven't done so yet, take a moment to sign up for Friday Night in Historic Searsport Maine Pre-Event Gathering and Searsport's Famous "Chowdah" Supper. There will be a non-seafood option at the dinner, so if you will require a non-seafood option please add yourself to the potluck entrees with the number of people who will need it.

We have more plotting to do tomorrow before heading back to work on Monday!

Aug 13, 2018: It's all coming together now.
KLMK and I are working on all the last minute details, getting the final stamps carved and planted and getting the cluebook to the copy shop.

Our last count of stamps is about 140 traditional stamps to be found (this doesn't include the nightboxing series.) We're including previously planted stamps in the cluebook so folks can have a comprehensive list of all the boxes available in town. The previously planted stamps will be marked in the cluebook, as will the temporary stamps, so you can prioritize your finds.

"Team Kelley Girls" want to take a moment and thank our letterboxing family for all the help with organizing and carving this event.
ATVRacer - reluctant carver and pouch taper, supportive hubby and favorite son-in-law.
Angel Treads - stamp carvers, series planner and raffle prize collectors
Crafty Lobster - pathtag designer, stamp carver, series planner and planting the island with gorgeous stamps
Mudflinginfools - stamp carver and goodie bag organizer and filler (along with Little Mud.)
Aiphid - event stamp carver and beer buyer
Teacup - stamp carver and enthusiastic participant

This group of Maine boxers really know how to rally and help a girl (or in this case girls) out!

The excitement is growing!
