Description

Public Display of Affection for our favorite hobby – Letterboxing Of Course!

July 22, 2017 will be the 110th anniversary of “The first suggestion for a rubber stamp appeared in the logbook on July 22, 1907 by John H. Strother who wrote, "Reached the pool at 7.10pm, misty day with cool breeze, and would suggest that a rubber stamp, something like the post office stamps for postmarking letters or rubber stamp for putting the address at the top of a piece of notepaper be provided and kept here. If this were done it would be proof that cards posted had really come from Cranmere." The letterbox finally reached the point as we largely know it today as a box containing a logbook and a rubber stamp.” According to AQ.

To commemorate, let’s carve in public! Find somewhere to set up your carving tools and favorite carving medium. And carve away. Bring AQ cards or other info with you to share with the “public”. Please message through AQ afterwards to share you stories and photos. I’m hoping to get somewhere between 110 and 2017 sign ups!

Thanks for playing along! fam_ting

Jul 17, 2017: PDA 2017 - THIS SATURDAY!
I can't wait to hear about your experiences this Saturday! You can pick anywhere in public to carve and hopefully we'll inspire others to join us in the fantastic hobby

July 22
My husband boxengineer17 and I set-up in the mall food court. We carved for about an hour. No one stopped to talk to us, but a few kids did watch us carve for a while.

I also carved at a family reunion 2 weeks ago and had a lot of interest from some of my distant family. They all asked a lot of questions and thought letterboxing sounded fun.

Happy boxing!!!

Hi!
I have a few events coming up that I'm attending, and wanted to make some stamps, so I went to a big park next to my house and parked myself at a table at the picnic shelter.
I was there about 4 hours, and during that time, 14 children came over to ask what I was doing....sadly, I did not encounter a single one who stayed to watch longer or show any further interest-despite my initial explanation.
😭😭😭😭
Only one adult asked about it, and it was a rather grumpy old man. He offered me this advice..."You should try a magnifier with a light. That's what I'd do!" Overall, a disappointing response from people, but at least I tried!!
