Description

Hey everyone!

It's never too early to start thinking about next year's gathering. In 2018, we'll be gathering on Saturday, March 17th and have decided upon a tentative venue of Kentucky Camp, a ghost town and former mining camp located along the AZT near the community of Sonoita. More on that and the facilities there when it's been booked. Here is the link in case you're curious: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/coronado/recarea/?recid=80620.

Our theme, because who doesn't want to begin carving now, will be comics. Books, strips, stand-up, etc. are all fair game. Sharpen your Exacto knife, get out your carving medium, and get those boxes ready....

Stayed tuned for more details! We'll post as soon as we have information.

Oct 2, 2017: 14th Annual Tucson Gathering: It's "Comic"-al
Our venue has been confirmed! We will be gathering at Kentucky Camp which is a ghost town and former mining camp along the Arizona Trail near the community of Sonoita.

Directions to Kentucky Camp:
From Tucson, take I-10 east to Exit #281 (Highway 83 Sonoita/Patagonia). Travel south on Highway 83 for approximately 21 miles to the Gardner Canyon Road. Turn right on Gardner Canyon Road and continue a quarter-mile to Forest Service Road 163. Turn right on Forest Service Road 163 and continue approximately 5 miles to the junction of 163 and the entrance to Kentucky Camp. Stay to the left and continue to the parking lot and gate that marks the entrance to Kentucky Camp. There are signs to Kentucky Camp from Highway 83.

Please note: After the turnoff from Highway 83, the road is a dirt road. It is suitable for regular cars but be prepared for them to get dusty!

Because this is a historical site, parking in the camp itself is limited. A parking lot for the camp is at the top of the entrance road to the camp. You will have plenty of "incentive" to walk down the hill (about .20 miles) to the Camp itself. We will also have a car shuttle running from 10 to 11 am to pick up people at the top to bring them to the camp or if your potluck needs to be shuttled down.

There will be a full kitchen available to us and plenty of indoor space to either get out of the sun or the rain, whatever our day brings.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on March 17th in 2018.

A reminder

There's been planting going on for the event. Some boxers have even gone out already to search.

Bring your clues from both AQ and LbNA as phone service is sparse in the area.

If you are bringing something to plant the same day, bring a card or paper to post your clue and participants and take a phone photo to carry away on the search.

Regarding food items:
We have a kitchen to use but electricity may be limited.
So far the proposed menu looks yummy

Looking forward to seeing y'all on the 17th.

Mar 5, 2018: A couple of house keeping items.
If you can bring chairs.

No parking down at the event itself but you can drive down to drop stuff off and then take your cars back to the top. There will be incentives to walk down the hill

We will all offer shuttle service between 10-11 in the morning and again in the afternoon for those who need it.

Reminder we have a kitchen. Not sure how much electric there is but there is some if you want to bring your own crockpot of hot food to keep warm.
