Currently sucking water out of the basement, but its not too bad. I think we are still waiting for the brunt of the storm, but so far so good. Lots of areas in NH without power already - something like 43,000 places last I heard - lots of tree debris everywhere, but so far nothing major in our town. So far.

How sad. It survived so many years against all odds it seems. Now it's time has come to an end and it appears as though it never existed.

I thought about the wild horses on the banks during the storms. It's amazing how they have survived hundreds of years of hurricanes.

I, too, in the midst of being concerned about the people affected, worried about the horses. I hope they survived!

We are running our generator now. Yard is cleaned up; no damage. Hope we get power back tomorrow because we can't leave it running while we are at work and I really don't want to lose the contents of the fridge!

BB- you are awesome!!! Our power came back on 3:30 am last night, so the generator was put away this morning before work. :)

Just talked to a friend who lives up the Corolla beach. The horses (who have been there for centuries) have made it through. They head into the marshes and find safe nooks when bad weather hits. Several small herds out on the beach today, and others wandering along the roads.

They are really amazing creatures. I think they know better how to endure the storms than the people.

We have spent vacation weeks in Cape Hatteras twice a year for the last 20 years or so and even honeymooned there and have a house reserved in Buxton for mid-November. Hatteras Realty has a Facebook page and has been providing reports, pictures and video on a daily basis. Route 12 has 5 breaks in the road. They really took a beating down there. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the folks who are trying to recover from the devastating effects of Irene.

We had a house reserved for the week of the 17th. (Sept)

I've already prepared the kids that I cannot see how we could possibly go. They are really disappointed, but they remembered that the people who live there and own houses there have so much to deal with right now. I saw one slideshow of the damage and that was as much as I could take. Why are we not hearing more on the news about the NC devastation????

This is the local newspaper out of Norfolk. VA. They've been covering OBX quite heavily since the storm.
