CLUE Character Analysis
Board: Yakking It Up

So, last August we moved from condemned, haunted building to a very modern, complete with cubicles, building with no character, no ghosts and certainly no secrets.

The cubicle walls, or as I refer to them as the "Walls of Jericho", I deplore but they came with a lot of, well, walls. And one day in January, I spotted an unused white board and I placed it on one of our recycling bin of one our larger walls, armed with an idea. Every two weeks (now, every week) I would pen a question for our office. What's your favorite book? Who was your favorite teacher? What's your favorite Robin William's movie? I even did a four part desert island series.

This has created an interesting aspect to our lil community. If I erase the board and not put up a new question, I hear about it. If I ask a bland question, the lack of responses are obvious. So, every week, now on Wednesday, I post a new question. As many of you know, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the game CLUE. It was the theme for my wedding. I am always hosting some type of CLUE tracker. CLUE! CLUE! CLUE!

So, last week, I posted the question, "Who is your favorite CLUE character?" with pictures of the fine actors and actress from the beloved cult movie CLUE.

But for some reason, this was not enough for me. I decided that after a week of the posting, I would send around a CLUE Character Analysis of each of the murder suspects. And I really want to share these with you guys but I was sure if I should just post the question and then share my CLUE character analysis or just post the analysis. And the reason why I hesitate is because I am curious as to who picks whom.

Thoughts?

No thoughts?

Or dear, did I post a bland question?

Ooh, Mr. Green all the way!

In high school, we put on our own production of Clue, complete with secret passages multiple endings and vampires (can’t forget the vampires). Anyway, I played Mr. Green and my wife was Miss Scarlet.

Such good memories!

I vote for seeing how many people will say who their favorite Clue character is, and then posting your analysis. Mine has always been Col. Mustard.

Another question might relate to one's Clue playing style. When I play, I don't just use the grid tally card that comes with the game. I also write out everybody's guesses each turn and who can or cannot deny them. You get a lot more info that way. The downside is that scarcely anyone in my family will play with me.

Who is your favorite CLUE character?

Professor Plum. I always pictured the actual fruit, with leather elbow patches on a tweed jacket.

Tough question! I love CLUE also. TI me, the male characters are more fun. Colonel Mustard is my favorite. I think of him as portly, stout, British and a crack shot. He's such a fun character!

Okay! Let's see who else plays along.

I will post the analysis on Sunday afternoon!

That's exactly why I always chose Col. Mustard too.

I always tried to play Miss Scarlet. Nothing whatsoever to do with personality. It's all game strategy. Number one, she always goes first, which is always an advantage. Number two, she is the only player with a chance of getting into a room on that first turn, since she is six spaces from a door. All the others are seven spaces away.

Mr. Green: So it was you. I was going to expose you.

Wadsworth: I know. So I choose to expose myself.

Colonel Mustard: Please, there are ladies present!

IF you choose Miss Scarlet ~ you might be a high strung drama queen. Always gotta to be the center of attention. Flashy and dashy is your trade couture. And RED. It’s your power color. Your favorite trait is your signature giggle. You know men love it while women hate it. While out on the town, you’ll say your aren't hungry but then you will pick off of everyone else's plate, without asking. With a cosmopolitan in your hand, you love to sashay through the clubs, flaunting your gaudy diamonds.

But those gaudy diamonds will not hold you back if you gotta slip a little poison in someone’s drink. In fact, your need for the high life with big diamonds are your greatest motivators. Yes. Once the cash starts to get a little low, the poison starts to flow….

IF you choose Professor Plum ~ you might be an genius introvert, who has a grand but quiet imagination. Having little friends as a child, you turned to books and read all about heroes, villains and their grand adventures. Over time, having books as your constant and steady friend, you learned to appreciate the value of a great book, especially one regarding ancient antiquities in the Middle East-which is your secret passion! Howard Carter has nothing you! You are highly educated-the most educated in this lot to be sure- and well versed in historic treasure. Drabbed in tweed and behind your glasses you know the others see you as a pushover and fuddy-dud. What they don’t know is the muscle you are will to pull when backed into a corner and that in your imagination you have already killed your enemies a thousand and one times.

For your next historic treasure expedition, you are willing to use any form of lead- pipe and otherwise-necessary to get it funded or defended. While you don’t actually do any digging of your own, of course, you do know where to hide a body….

IF you choose Mr. Green ~ you might be a ruthless, amoral, slim-shady businessman. Your FB profile is from your days as a used car salesman, complete with slicked-back hair. However, you hate germs, so hand shaking on business deals bring you great anxieties. You keep a lot of hand sanitizer and tissues stashed about, and will only use them when no one else is looking, to avoid offence. You are inclined to peek when playing hide and seek, and as a child you made several attempts to capture Santa Claus with the goal to negotiate more gifts in exchange for his release. Always calculating on how to swindle someone is what gets you through your days and your love for vintage brandy gets you through your nights.

Once caught though, you aren’t afraid to commit a little murder, even with something as simple as a candlestick. Why? Because greedy green is your color, not orange.

If you choose Ms. Peacock ~you might be a snobby, rich older woman. With age and experience, comes great understanding of the human mind, especial the male lot. You chuckle at Miss Scarlet because she thinks shaking her tail will win in the end. Oh, no honey. It’s the lady with a shady attorney in her pocket that wins in the end. Always behind your seemingly pleasant smile, you are plotting. Plotting to pit others against each other brings you tremendous joy; even more than a rich, dead husband and his money, of which you have many. Yes, you love to plot. You even plot murder when necessary; like that, time a seedy former gardener kidnapped your precious dog Oreo and demanded a ransom. Oh, yes. Silly lil gardener never knew what a crack shot you are. Bang, bang and you already know that you Better Call Saul.

If you choose Colonel Mustard ~ you might be very militant and can only think vertical. People find it hard to have a conversation with you because you only listen when the topic is of an interest to you and if it isn’t, you will steer the conversation towards topics that are of your interest or that matter to you. You tend to say, “Can we talk about what I want to talk about?” But it’s not really a question. You also fail to pick up on non-verbal ques because you don’t care. In the evenings, your butler finds you sitting before a blazing fire, listening to Billie Holiday with a fine Cuban cigar in one hand and a double bourbon in the other. Here’s where you do your best thinking. Alone. Warm. And slightly intoxicated.

Having served your country, you know how to kill. But plotting the details was never your strong suit. Sipping on bourbon, you concede only to yourself your shortcomings about this. Yes, plotting is not your best skill set. But a sharpened knife definitely is!

If you choose Ms. White ~ you are mixture of good and evil. No one can sort you out. Not even yourself. But you go with the flow, which you appreciate about yourself. Not one to stand out like Scarlet, you keep cool in the back and observe. When no one is looking, you are likely to swipe a jeweled brooch or an unattended wallet just to donate the money to the local animal shelter or blow your play money at the local casino, which ever suits your current mood. You can plot or act impulsively. You don’t care, and frankly my dear, you don’t give a damn. You like to keep things light and as quiet as possible, even though you like playing with fire and flames.

None of the others really takes the time to engage with you, and you really do not mind. It actually helps when it comes to murder. Why? Because A) you aren’t too attached and B) you can’t very well plot a murder out loud. No. Just a slip of the rope and pull hard in case of an emergency.

There you have it, you cold-blooded murderers! ;o)

I always wanted to be Miss Scarlett! When I was in middle school and high school, we played Live Clue at sleepovers (the girls at my house, the boys at the house across the street). It was so much fun! Good times!
