Between getting things lined up for Sleep Hollow, play testing my game, and trying to remember where I parked my car, I have been very busy these last two months. Yesterday, as I was sitting down, trying to focus on my scheming, my 14 year approached me.He sat down, clasped his hands together on the table and the following conversation ensued:

Andrew: “Hey, Mom.”

I look. I am not certain why these kids insist on call me “Mom” but they do. I reply, “Yes, handsome.”

He sighs. It’s deep. “I feel like you have not done major shopping in two months.”

I freeze. I am stunned. I am not certain what to say.

He closes his eyes and continues to speak while nodding. “Have you seen the freezer lately?”

He clicks his tongue. “Yes. You need to see it.”

I look around. I didn’t even know he knew where the freezer was. Or it’s purpose. I think he just thought food magically appeared on the table.

But for his benefit, I get up and go to the garage. I even open up the freezer. He is correct. It is almost empty. This is a first, a first in many, many years.

Apparently, they are paying attention.
