Laurie Metcalf on "Supergirl"
Board: Television: After the Show Ends

Laurie Metcalf was on "Supergirl" tonight. She plays Winn Schott's mother.
She also plays Sheldon Cooper's mother from "The Big Bang Theory".
So, Sheldon Cooper's brother works with Supergirl. How much would that freak out the character if it were true (in universe)?

Can you work her role as Roseanne's sister in with that?

Sheldon was embarrassed by being from rural Texas, so I'm sure that he'd be really embarrassed by having Roseanne as his aunt.
And this is just combining her roles in currently-being-produced series. Check out what other television Laurie Metcalf has been in.

She's currently appearing on Broadway with Glenda Jackson. Though probably no one here is old enough to remember Jackson. lol
I was going to go see it but it's an Edward Albee play and his stuff can make your brain hurt. If I can get discount tickets I may anyway. I love her.

I didn't know that. How cool!!
I watch Young Sheldon and keep feeling like she looked familiar, or was like someone or *something*. Cool.

I always thought that they made an excellent match for the younger version of that character.
I just wonder if "Young Sheldon" will last long enough to run into the beginning of "The Big Bang Theory".

I don't know Alison Pill, but you can't go wrong with Jackson and Metcalf.
Sounds like an interesting concept.

When I first saw that they were doing the show I was like......seriously? I love Big Bang Theory and never thought Young Sheldon would measure up. But I love it now. They chose well for all the characters and that makes the show. No one is there to just fill up space. It's a good ensemble cast. The young actor who plays Sheldon is great. And I remember when his sister appeared on Big Bang and you could see how smart she is. She is smart a whip as a kid also. Sheldon got the "huge" brain but she is no slouch. lol
And I like the way they tie it in to Sheldon as an adult, like why he is terrified to drive. That was funny.

I haven't seen enough of "The Big Bang Theory" to have heard Sheldon's comments about his dad, but I'll accept your assessment. For practical purposes they couldn't build "Young Sheldon" with a father like that; he has to be sympathetic. I think that is why they made him a better person.
Any idea when he, unfortunately, dies from a heart attack? We've got at most until it runs into the beginning of "The Big Bang Theory".

I just checked. "The Big Bang Theory" premiered September 24, 2007. "Young Sheldon" is set in 1989, presumably starting in the fall of that year. That means that when TBBT premiered that Sheldon was 9 + 18 = 27 years old. Not many series last even 10 years (though TBBT has 11 seasons so far), so there is a very good chance that YS won't run into TBBT.

Rats, it must have been the episode I slept through.
Oh well, that's what reruns are for.

Something just occurred to me this evening. Sheldon's dad dies when Sheldon is 13 years old. That gives us at most 4 years (of "Young Sheldon") until he dies.
Sheldon and his posse are theoretical physicists with doctorates, except for the one with "just" a masters degree. Imagine if you will that on "The Big Bang Theory" this posse comes up with some (crazy) theory on time travel or just sending a message back in time. They attempt to do so, but they (think that) they don't succeed.
On the next episode of "Young Sheldon" we see the other end of the experiment. It is something subtle that happens, but we as the audience (seeing the other end) know that it is because of what the older Sheldon did. It has the effect of warning them of his father's heart attack and they save his life.
On the next episode of TBBT Sheldon receives a call (or visit) from his father, confirming that he is still alive, and "always" was.
