All roads lead to letterboxing.

For the past 5 weeks, I've been taking a knitting class offered at my town's library. There are only a few of us (including Southpaw), so we do a lot of chatting.

Last night, the subject of letterboxing came up. When the class's instructor asked what it was, one of the other women in the class unexpectedly piped up. It turns out that she and her husband planted this box, which was the first box I ever found! I thought it was so cool that my somewhat reluctant entry into the world of knitting led me to meeting this planter.

Anyone else have a story like this?

Maybe Bee of Pugs and Bee should share this story, but this fits and is pretty awesome. During the last couple months of living in North Carolina, Pugs and Bee invited me to a Thanksgiving dinner party. It was a ragtag group of people without plans for Thanksgiving, and they were connected through the game store that Pugs frequents. So, it was Thanksgiving and games.

After dinner, we played Nuts and Cards Against Humanity. Then everyone, but Bee and I, filed upstairs to play an RPG game that wasn't D&D. Bee and I were planning to find a letterbox or two. However, upstairs the hostess asked Pugs what Bee and I were planning. He told her that we were probably going to letterbox. She couldn't believe it and ran back down stairs. Her and her kid had found seven letterboxes back in 2009, but hadn't found any since then. She enjoyed the hobby, but not all children take to our hobby like their parents. She found her logbook. We all went letterboxing in the dark on a very chilly Thanksgiving evening (for North Carolina).

---

Kinda reverse:

There is a letterboxer on here that I kinda grew up with (other than my cousin) and he lived almost around the corner from me. His wife emailed me about a mini-meet they were interested in, but couldn't attend. I clicked on the profile. They had a picture of themselves in the profile.

Now, I am bad at recognizing people by their face in public. I have almost approached people that I thought were my dad or one of my closest friends, and they were not them. However, for this picture, I said out loud, "That's so-and-so." My last plane ride was in 1988/89, and it was with him (it was in a cessna). When my mom sold Avon to his mom, he chased me around his backyard until his twin brother told him to stop. So, probably enough childhood trauma has seared his face into my mind. =P Plus, I just saw him four years before at his brother's concert.

A year or two after that email, my cousin and I found a box, and I flipped through the old logbook. Him and his wife found the box before us and wrote their first and last name down in the logbook. That confirmed my photo recognition.

To this day, I've never told them, though.

No, sorry, I was just curious about the identity of the letterboxer.

Ha! I'm glad you shared that on my behalf! I almost forgot about that! She was so excited to night box with us (which she has never done) but hasn't been boxing since. I was totally not dressed for night boxing but that was worth it lol

They are not active anymore. I don't think they went to an event or posted on here.

I'm amazed in my life how when I meet new people, not boxers, the subject of 'boxing comes into the conversation.

I don't think any of us were really prepared to go night boxing. It was cold that night. I think the ground was soaked, too.
