I read about the school on pottermore.com this morning! You can even get sorted into one of their four houses! :D

I'd be all over that like a hobo on a ham sandwich, after having conquered Magalloway Mountain last week :-)

That was my first thought, too! I always have grandiose plans, but I'm terrible with follow-through... so I'm sure someone else would beat me to planting there. And anyway, since I've still not made it TO Mt Greylock, I'd probably plant on top of other boxes. :/

HP boxes might be sufficient to convince my twins to hike with me for a day, though!

Your necklace sounds awesome!
I have a tattoo that says I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
And my husband and I are getting harry potter tattoos together soon. :)

There really aren't many boxes on the mountain, considering how many trails there are. I planted a couple last year, and I think they have each been found (at least, logged on AQ) once or twice. The summit road is closed from mid-October through mid-May, which cuts down on possible finders.

I am hosting this tracker for Fantastic Beasts and where to find them http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?trackerId=9027

....which is why JK Rowling has revealed the wizarding school in Mass. Only four more spots left, but the four houses of this school are fantastic beasts in America and would give you a basis for boxes for this plant. I would donate mine to this cause....maybe the other carvers would too.

I was sorted into Horned Serpent!!

We love Mt Greylock, but haven't boxed there yet.

You can apparently drive to the summit of Mount Greylock, late May through November 1st. It sounds ripe for a Harry Potter letterbox.

back in the 1600's might have been a great location, but now it's awfully close to civilization and the Appalachian Trail!!!

Aren't the schools in another dimension? Otherwise, a castle like where Harry Potter trained would be a tourist spot.

They are heavily guarded by all sorts of magical enchantments. For example, if a muggle were to stumble upon Hogwarts it would look like an abandoned house. And they have memory charms so that people won't remember where they are. I've always thought that maybe there is a secret house similar to Grimmauld place next to my grandfather's house. His house is 37 and the house next door is 33. No 35!
Well I can only imagine!

Hogwarts is still pretty isolated. Ilvermore is on a heavily visited mountain near a pretty big town. It's totally geeky for me to make that observation, but hey, that's half the fun!

My daughter and I used to talk about where the North American School would be and we thought deep in the Adirondacks or up in the wilds of Maine would be the best spots, but given Rowling's story, I can see why she picked Greylock

I signed up for the LTC tracker, and would be willing to donate my stamp to the cause if Rocklun wanted to plant a Harry Potter series up there :-).

I just read the story of Ilvermorny on pottermore.com and it sounds so cool. Back in the 1600s it seemed pretty darn isolated!
It's sad how much of the Harry Potter books I forget! I'm rereading them all to my family and we're on Goblet of Fire right now.
I so wish I could go to a Wizarding school!

Same here, I signed up for both trackers and even have a previous stamp (Severus Snape and separate Always carve) I'd toss in for any plants up that way.

I'd be happy to help with an Ilvermorny series, if someone wanted to plant boxes relating to the story that takes place on Greylock.

Also, as a huge fan of the works of Rowling/Robert Galbraith and a born and raised resident of Massachusetts, this new revelation has me fangirling pretty hard :)

Thanks to everyone who offered stamps! Yumgirl and I are going to plant a series in September that will be based on the new story. We're in the process of working out the details now.

Funguy and I planned a trip to Mt. Greylock for this weekend before the new Harry Potter news came out but now I'm even more excited to go. Too bad I'm not a better or faster carver, just an excuse now to plan another trip in September!

Is anyone doing a series for Greylock? If so, I have three stamps (two almost done), for the series.

Contact me if there is a series being done. Thanks!

Actually, I think it would be okay if none of the images overlapped, and additional boxes were planted on other trails on the mountain.

So far, it looks as though none of the images will be the same. That's just a guess since I haven't seen the images, just seen the names of the boxes.

I'm heading to Greylock this weekend and plan to do the series. If it looks like we could plant something there without poaching, I'll let you know, BB! :^)

Shooter and I did the new Greylock series today. It would definitely NOT be poaching if Yumgirl and I planted a different series of Fantastic Beasts on another trail there.

So if anyone in the Fantastic Beasts tracker would be interested in having us plant their stamp, please contact me. Thanks!!

I will send you Newt Scamander when I am done with him. Might not be until the end of October though. Let me know if you can wait for it...
