I've heard of those places. Since we have the first Openly Gay mayor here in Seattle, I belive you just have to be cognicent of the bar you go into, otherwise I have never had to park in certain lots to avoid that activity.
As for the Phone....Well I might think my A&E Detective vibe might say you stumbled into the Dark Side of the world. The side were people need to hide Items like that as part of their daily proffesion. I have only had a slight glimps of that world once from my days in the military. Even today all I'm comfortable to say is, My instructions that day were plain and clear, but one of the oddest things I ever did in the military.
Their was a weirdest day blog in the past and that was when I was mistaken for a flasher because the trailhead had a drescription for the average white guy which I fit to a tee. Only that I am 100pounds heavier than the description.
The weirdest thing I have seen while boxing. hmmm....well there was the time when a family of Geocachers and my Daughter & I were looking in the same area of the trail and we both (groups) were trying to not look suspisiose, only that we all probally started to look like a Benny Hill Skit of going back & forth on the trail waiting for the other group to continue on beacause the box and cashe ended up being near ontop of each other.
A couple of summers ago, during one of our rare 90 degree heatwaves, we went looking for a box near one of the secluded lakes in the Snohomish County backwoods. Now the box was old and the clues seamed obliterated, so we pressed on to the lake to eat our picnic lunch with us. We got to the lake and found a nice spot with a little beach to eat our lunch. There was a young couple frolicing around in the water, and just stopped when we came up. We sat and ate, while they pretty much just swam and waited for us to leave. It wasn't untill we packed up after our quick lunch that I noticed their clothes were folded up on a log to the side. Then it hit me they were skinny dipping and this weird guy and his 7 year old daughter were having lunch while they swam naked. Not that we knew that at the time. Once I saw the clothes i appologized to them, and we left. They decided to high tail out of there and passed us on the trail back down to the cars. They decided to go Comando, because the guy was carying their underwere, with his girlfriends bra half dangling out. Stasiaboo goes "Dad, he has her underwere, thats gross".

Okay, I was looking back at my pictures of the beaver in the tree, and now I'm starting to wonder if it might have been a woodchuck!! Are there any wildlife experts out there who might know? Body picture Face picture

I think that's a woodchuck. I checked with Google and found that beavers can't climb trees but woodchucks sometimes will to get away from predators. Plus a beavers tail is not fluffy.

Yeah, I did some googling, too, and saw the same thing. We assumed it was a beaver because it had a flat tail (it didn't look very fluffy, but we thought maybe a juvenile was different). Plus, it was next to a pond where there was a lot of beaver activity. We should have remembered what happens when you ASSume!
So let me change my original post to say that the craziest thing we've ever seen while letterboxing was a woodchuck in a tree, since we had no idea those little varmints could climb!

.......... and don't letterbox with friends who "upskirt" you when you're down and out instead of lending a hand! LOL!!! Truth be told, we were just disproving the Undestructable Mater Lock theory. The thing snapped like a twig (under 300 lbs of pressure).
Obviously, we HAD to drink all that beer ................simply to "ease our pain"! ;o)

Disclaimer: No letterboxers were seriously injured in the search for this letterbox!!!

I think the grossest thing I've ever seen was a large pile of human poop and some men's briefs lying next to it that they had used to wipe with. And this was a foot away from a letterbox. I had to actually get down next to it to grab the box. Horrible smell. I didn't mention it in the comments (maybe I should have, but, I didn't care to poo-poo on their parade--it was a box the planter had used to propose to his fiancee and it wasn't found that often), but the next finder was soon after me and...bless her heart...mentioned poop at least 5x in her comment after mine. I couldn't help but laugh. I'm terrible, I know. But NOT as terrible as the pooper! How many times have I said poop now?

If you do not like snakes, you will not want to box with me. I am a snake magnet. I don't even have to be boxing. I'm also oblivious. There's been a handful of times now where I'm sitting by a river and I look down and there's a snake just hanging out right by me.
you would think I would be used to it by now. But no. I damn near have a heart attack every time. It's almost like a joke. Let's see how long before Dawn sees the snake.
We have lots of snakes here.

the craziest???
so far there has only been one, but im sure they will be more.
i was going to check/maintain a box that the owner had given up on and it was the last in the series. i also had a noob boxer with me and gave her the clues since i already knew where the box was. we come up to the location and we do not see the typical tupperware that once housed this loner box. instead, there was a plastic bag tied and wrapped in its place. i was suspicious of this and told noob not to touch it, that it wasn't the box (noob was upset thinking she messed up on the clues :/). we were still curious...tho. what would someone want to hide under a bridge, in a park, in a plastic bag? we decided to open it, using sticks as hands. who would of thought 10~ pairs of dirty thongs would be in this poor loners box's spot! ew ew ew
another bummer was that loner box was now MIA. i was royally disappointed.
crazy. the box bandit is out there. replacing undies for boxes. beware

I am thinking the planter knew something you didn't.

I once had a box placed in a great spot under the roots of a tree somewhat near a campsite. Apparently, these roots made a good toilet seat, as well... :/
Barf.
