Sorry about publishing this letterbox yesterday. I wanted to find out the AQ number. I should have used a reserved box because I could have got that information and still have it show up as being published today.

This letterbox is in place and is now ready to be found.

I would normally come up with a response like that, so I very much appreciate your reply. I just didn't thinks of it in this case. I guess that I was just too close to the subject to see the obvious.

Years ago, when I was married, we went to a Halloween party as an Almond Joy and Mounds.
I'm sure you know who was which.

Southern Utah Suggestions?

Hi friends,
We are looking to vacation in Southern Utah next year, and are looking for suggestions on trails. We are wanting to hit Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks, and Zion. We’ve been to Zion, but not the others. I am looking on line and trying to decide what all we will want to do and what trails to make top priority.

Does anyone have any suggestions for good trails to hike? I’m the hiker in the family, so the others might like 6 miles or less.

Also, any other must see sites that might not be mentioned anywhere? Or other suggestions?

I’ve marked the letterboxes in the area, so hopefully we will find a few of those too.

Thanks everyone!

I'd suggest St. George as well. Lots for everyone to see (dinosaur prints and all) plus lovely trails in the area as well.

Google trails in Red Canyon (it’s near Bryce). Google Buckskin Gulch, it’s fantastic and not nearly as crowded.

Did a similar trip in 2015.
Blogged about it here.
Plenty of places to get away from crowds and plenty of hiking.

Stay at Recapture Lodge in Bluff and take a day raft trip on San Juan River—you will “park” and hike to cave dwellings and fabulous pictograph sites along river. Great BBQ at Cottonwood Steakhouse.

Zion is one of my favorite parks. My favorite trails are the Narrows and Angels Landing, so if you go those are a must!!! I don't know if you've hiked the Narrows already or if you will, but if you do bring shoes that can get wet! It's literally a hike through a river. Angels Landing is not a hike for people that are afraid of heights but the view is impeccable if you can brave the altitude.

Is this white water rafting? It sounds amazing.

Yes! I wanted to do the Narrows last time we were there, but we didn’t have the right shoes. Angles landing is on the list, and I’m trying to talk the youngest into doing it. I might just have to go by myself. Ha! :)

Google Yant Flat and look at the images. We had planned to hike this remote trail a few years ago but didn't get to go for various reasons.

You can find details about the trail at the Hike St George web site.

Such a beautiful area. Have fun!
Planting in Memory Grove

I have a two-box series that I want to plant in Memory Grove because it commemorates a soldier. However, when I talked to some letterboxers about that idea they said not to do it because Memory Grove is cleaned out too frequently.

I was thinking of planting farther up City Creek Canyon. At least that would be close to Memory Grove. Do you think that would work?

I didn’t know about the cleaning out although it is manicured around the monuments. It’s wilder after the beginning of the leash-free dog path. I have had several boxes lost, but always thought it was because the area is so busy.

I'm sure it'd be fine in either place. I'll be happy to have something new to find! I was supposed to go to Moab this spring to letterbox down there - one of the last places in Utah for me to hit. But the apocalypse changed my plans and I had to stay home.
Northern Utah Letterboxers

I went letterboxing yesterday, on Saturday. I found two series on the Weber River Parkway, off of 1900 West. I didn't know there were so many letterboxers in Weber County. Most of them haven't logged these series online.

I'm now wondering if there are many more finders on my boxes than I thought there were. Is this common for everyone's boxes?

Nowadays I don't check on my plants often; usually only the ones in town and I just happen to be there at the hiding spot. Even then, I seldom look at the log book b/c I'm in a hurry not to be seen. Back when I was more active I did notice that about 1/3 to close to 1/2 of the stamp-ins did not log online. Not everyone is into the online part. Also sometimes a group will box together. While they all usually stamp in the logbook, not all will log the find online. Also maybe not all those folks in the logbook are from Weber County. I guess we wouldn't know if they don't have profiles on AQ or LbNA.

The ones that were logging in these letterboxers put their cities along with their stamp. Most of the finders were from Weber county.

I agree with boxer lover in that 1/3 to 1/2 of finders don’t log online. I have found boxes that haven’t been “found” in years or are new plants and there are often 3-4 people who have been there since the last online log or who are “first” finder. (Shrug)
