For clues I always put the clues that'll I'll put in the parent box. People won't be able to see them anyway until they've found the parent box and this gives me a set of clues if I forget where I've hidden the box(which I have done.)

However, if you put clues on the bonus box's page the finders of the parent box will be able to see the clue online. This may be what you want, that people will be able to see the clue and go back and find the bonus box, but it may also not be what you want. If you don't put the clue on the bonus box they the finder will have to figure out which box they need to find to be able to find this bonus box.

And if you want to keep the clue to the bonus box for your own use then enter it as a note on the box's page.

Just an option, if you want to use it.

I've found it easier to get permission if I call and speak to the Park Manager in charge of the regulations before I send in my forms. I'll give him/her assurances that my boxes aren't far from the trails, etc.

I want to go but it’s 4 hours away and early the next morning we are driving to Maine for a week of camping, which I’ll need to be packing for. I’ll just miss an event there, too, so I’m getting antsy! I may be a last minute sign-up for this one...

I visited their with one of my daughters. We went to a prospective student orientation--the thing I remember most was sitting through the financial aid lecture (ouch!). The campus was lovely, it was close to where her older sister was already in college (Defiance) and it had the major she was interested in. She ended up going to Hanover about half the size and tuition was less due to being in-state. Sounds like you may have a chance at a scholarship.

It does depend on what state, my state of NC requires a permit and they charge a Very high price per box , so it seems that they are trying to discourage Letterboxing in their parks. Poo on them.

On the other hand our neighboring State of Virginia LOVES letterboxes in their parks and welcomes them. Some even plant their on LBs and they have a geocaching program where you can go to the office and pickup clues to LBs and caches , they will even rent you a hand-held device for the day to find their caches. How COOL is that?

They do like for you to give them a copy of your clues to the letterboxes you plant , but they don't care how many you plant at a time.

Lil Poo Slinger and I have a wonderful day with so many friends and so many boxes. We especially enjoyed tackling the cryptic clues, the shed, and the hides in the fairy neighborhoods. So much fun! Thank you for all the work to prepare for our attendance and for sharing your home with us.

Safari vs Chrome - Logging Finds

If I try to log a find in Safari, there is no calendar/drop down menu thingie to get the date. It wants me to type in a date which isn't accepted since there is supposed to be a calendar thingie.

In Google Chrome the calendar thingie is there and working properly.

Anyone else experience this?

The State of Connecticut waited until there were at least 1000 boxes (seriously) hiding behind all those rocks in the state parks and a good chunk of their park staff was getting laid off due to budget cuts and then said, hey, we would like you all to get permits. And most state boxers went, "um, no, that ship has sailed." I think I know one or two boxers that have ever bothered with permits. Because it's not just a permit. You're supposed to go check your box once a year, and put a special sticker on it, and tell them exactly where you want to plant it BEFORE you plant it so they can go check the spot first, meaning you have to go to the park twice. And then they have planting guidelines that their own state letterboxes don't even meet. Like they have state letterboxes in historic structures and in stone walls. And this is all in a state that was mostly clear-cut and covered with sheep about 100 years ago. The land here is not that delicate.

Theoretically, Safari is supposed to support dates. I can't actually test it myself since I don't have anything Apple, but according to the documentation online, it should work. Do you know what version you are using?

It wants me to type in a date which isn't accepted since there is supposed to be a calendar thingie.

Even on older browsers where the calendar doesn't work, you should still be able to type in a date, but type it in the format of YYYY-MM-DD.

Making it easier to log group of LTC's

Most often, when I log cards, there are many at once. Maybe a tracker, for instance. Or maybe I did a personal exchange, or Marjorie's Potpourri. I use Advanced Search. But for each card, I have to change the status from Traditional to LTC. Every single card logged requires this extra step.

Is it possible to change the default so that we can choose to place it on LTCs, OR to make the default whatever we last used? For traditional boxes, I am probably only logging a couple of individual finds [or maybe one series]. I am doing at least 5 cards at a time, and if I get behind, it might be 25 cards.

Ok, there's my 2 cents.

If you do a Simple Search then you can directly enter the LTC number. That will take you directly to the card. That's how I start entering an LTC tracker. From there I just use the tracker to quickly get to the next card.

If they are miscellaneous cards then just keep entering the numbers.

I use Advanced Search. But for each card, I have to change the status from Traditional to LTC. Every single card logged requires this extra step

Under the 'letterbox' tab at the top of the page, dropdown menu, select "Record Find". The first time you can select type 'LTC' and enter the card #. It will take you to the card and after you log the find, use the page back to get back to the "Record Find" screen. The 'LTC' type is still selected, so just enter the next number you want to log. Repeat until finished.
