They have made a lot of advances in cancer treatment for pets based on all the great work being done for humans. My heart and prayers go out for your sweet girl's rapid recovery and survival.

Are they taking both sides/ chains? Be prepared for her to be pretty uncomfortable initially. Please make sure your vet provides her with the appropriate pain medications! if she is uncomfortable at demand they keep her pain free.

Did they check for metastatic lung cancer? I have seen not so good vets not check chest films ahead of time. I would hate for her to go through such a serious surgery only to have a poor long term prognosis.

I hope your girls surgery goes well, recovers quickly and her prognosis is great.

Thank you for your kind words Lisa! They did do all the preliminary testing and they are pretty sure they got it all. She seems comfortable now and yes, she is on 2 different pain meds. And also an antibiotic. Praying she does well through the night.

So, has anyone seen any kind of bear while LBing? It can be a black bear/grizzly bear/even polar bear, or possibly a panda.

I haven't, but I am pretty sure one has seen me! I was admiring some black bear tracks while hiking alone one morning. Then, I realized I was following those very fresh bear tracks. When the hair on my neck stood up, I pulled out my bear spray and backed slowly down the trail.

Not while letterboxing, but when I was a kid camping. While off fishing alone, me and a cub scared the crap out of each other and went running to our mommies.

Not while letterboxing...but several years ago when I was sitting at my kitchen table and looking out the window, I saw a black bear walk across my backyard (and I live in a neighborhood, albeit a heavily wooded one)! My jaw dropped!

Yes. Black bears while checking on one of my plants here in Island Park. Near Bear Gulch, ironically enough. I did run into two young grizzlies while walking near another box I planted. The ONE day I forgot to carry my bear spray. So glad they were not aggressive!

My son and I came upon a black bear while letterboxing a couple of years ago. Thank goodness it was more frightened by us and ran off deeper into the woods. I switched out my sig stamp to a photo I snapped of this beautiful (but scary) creature for anyone who wants to see. This was in Maryland.

Close to the east gate of Yellowstone. We watched sheep crosss the road as we got the box. When putting it back, we heard the bear roar and the sheep came flying (yes, they can move rapidly!) back across the road. We were far enough from the car to be concerned and made haste to get back inside. Never saw the bear but felt we were close enough!

While vacationing in NH, we had just finished boxing and were heading to a spot to pick blueberries when a black bear crossed the road right in front of our car…scared the bejeebers out of me! We were only a short distance from the last box. I guess the bear had done some blueberry picking as well.

Another vacation, in Glacier NP, we were 4 miles into a hiking trail when a grizzly and 2 cubs came out of the woods…THAT was downright frightening!

I saw one in New Jersey a few years back. It was after I returned the box to its location and was driving away. I saw motion to my right and up on a small ridge, about ten feet up, was a black bear. It was VERY cool ....

Indeed, in the Great Smoky Mountains. I also have a bear that lives near me so I see her nearly every year...Now I'm wondering if anyone has encountered the bear that lives by me while finding one of my boxes.
