....it is supposed to be discussed on the Lifetime of Eevil forum.

Where would I find that forum?

If you don't have the Eevil Countdown widget, then follow this link. You have to decode the message then you can be added. You'll need to have the Eevil Countdown widget to enter your answer. The idea is to solve an Eevil puzzle to get into the Lifetime of Eevil forum.

At a Halloween geocache event tonight, I met some letterboxers who have moved to Utah from Florida. (Yes, they geocache as well which is why I met them at a geocaching event.) They started talking about a letterboxer that they knew from Florida, and I asked, "Kirbert?" "Yes!" It's a small world.

Anyway, we have some new letterboxers in Utah. They'll be out doing both letterboxing and geocaching, once they have finished unpacking.

BTW, I searched for their name on Atlas Quest but didn't find them. They said that they letterbox using the same name.

Hi Friends!
We will be traveling through Salt Lake this summer and want to know of the best park around the lake, that might have a letterbox in it? ;) Or other must see spot.

We won't have a lot of time though, and we will want to see the Temple while we are there, just because. We hope to be on our way after lunch.

Thanks for the ideas!

You're being pretty ambiguous as to where you'll be traveling and how long you have; It is a REALLY BIG lake. This could affect the recommendations, and whether or not we can arrange an event to be able to meet you.

Assuming that you'll be in downtown SLC (since you're visiting the temple) for just a few hours, you should run an advanced query with slconfoot. These are the ones within reasonable walking distance of downtown SLC.

Yes, sorry. In and around Salt Lake City. We have a morning. We are driving in from Idaho in the evening and getting up in the morning, hope to see the temple and take a picture, then see the lake and find a letterbox, have lunch then off to Colorado. In August. We are going on a 6 state tour of the west in two weeks... Yes, we are crazy.

I will check out the link. Thanks!

If you are going to be downtown at the Temple, there are some Urban boxes downtown. Since you have so little time, I recommend doing that....

GreenJello had some amazing boxes inside the Temple compound a few years back.....not sure if they're still active or not. There were also some wonderful boxes in the downtown area......

I was there in September. Didn't get many boxes but would suggest doing the Patriotic Utah near the state capital by A Patriot.

While I was there managed to get the following:

Ruth's Diner (Nice drive and lunch place but it is out a canyon past Utah University
Challenge Accepted!
Best of the Bakeries: Sweet Tooth Fairy
The Headless Horseman
Hatch Family Chocolates (Definitely a tasty stop)
Three Billy Goats Gruff: Folk Tales
Patriotic: Utah

Thanks everyone. I will look at the boxes mentioned. :)

I am not sure we will get to the island state park, though it looks nice. We do want to see the Lake and hope to find a safe, family friendly park or place to do so.

We have lots of other trip planning to do, so I'm sure I'll be asking about other locations soon. I love that letterboxing helps plan better trips! ;)

Antelope Island State Park is where most people go to see the Great Salt Lake. Entry few is $10 per car.

For such a large lake there are few ways to get to it on the west side, but you can see it for free from several places on the south. With all of the water we have had this year the shoreline should be close to where you can drive.

I love Antelope Island however, it is a full day trip. A half day minimum. Check out Saltaire or the Great Salt Lake Marina state park. I am not super familiar with either of the locations so you would have to do your own research.

Hi Utah boxers,

So our trip to UT and surrounding states begins next week, April 5th.

For those of you in southern UT, we plan to be there on Monday April 10 at Zion National Park for the day. Not sure of a good place to meet there before we enter the park but we're planning on spending the whole day there.

If you would rather, we plan on eating dinner at Oscar's Cafe but not sure what time that might be. I could reply to this post once we get a firmer grip on our schedule if anyone is interested in meeting us at Oscars, otherwise Zion would work.

Thanks,

Mark Pepe

Hi boxers,

I promised to post when we had a handle on on travel plans.

There are a few options that might work out:

1) We will be in Zion National Park for the day on Monday, April 10. We could arrange to meet at the ranger station sometime mid morning?

2) In the same area, on Monday, April 10, we are planning to eat dinner at Oscar's Cafe, 948 Zion Park Boulevard. We can meet at about 7pm if that works.

3) At the end of our vacation, on Tuesday, April 18 we plan to stop at the Timpanogos Cave NM in Provo and This is the Place NHT in SLC later in the day.

If you are interested in any of these locations for an exchange and some letterboxing banter, let me know by replying to this post.

We're exited about this trip and thanks,

Mark Pepe

I'm retired and can meet you at This is the Place on April 18. We are a tiny group and I think the others work so don't know about them. Speak up, y'all! Can you come?

I'd like to have a mini-meet, but I'd have to take the day off or at least part of it.

I may make time to meet. It's always fun meeting new (to me) boxers. We had one last October with some boxers I'd only met through LTCs, and it was a fun meet.

I've set up an event for meeting Mark and Sue Pepe at This is the Place Heritage Park on April 18. See the event page here.
Time is set for 4:00-5:00 pm, but that might change a bit according to the Pepe's schedule, so keep an eye on the event page.

They will be at Zions National Park on April 10. See the first message in this thread to see if anyone in that area might be able to meet there.

Pack insect repellent, lip balm, and sunscreen. Or just buy a small bottle of it in a store when you get here. You may use it up.
