What is the proper thing to do when your out letterboxing and you find an HH stamp a second time? Do you leave it alone and let someone else find it. I didn't think you could log it as a find again.. I just recently found one a second time and I left it where it was. Was that the right thing to do?

Thanks, denvered

Just food for thought and I am not a wheelchair user however I have lots of friends in chairs, I would try and Google earth the location you plan on going to before you set out. This will set you up for success as you will know what the area is like in the terrain is like. I have often found people that Mark something as wheelchair friendly is not exactly wheelchair friendly at all, Especially if the boxer is by themselves - I personally don't mark my boxes as wheelchair friendly unless I know for sure someone can roll up to the box and grab it themselves , but that's just me.

There's no right or wrong, except throwing away a HH (my opinion).

I have an alias account with a cute little sig stamp that I use for cases like that. I also use it to record a 'found' when I check on someone else's box that had an 'attempt' as its last recorded status.

If the HH hasn't moved for awhile, I would go ahead and take it, logging it in using my alias. HHs are meant to travel, and I'm sure the HH's owner would love to hear that it is still out there.

Thank you all for your input, I left it alone because it was in a box of the month for June, so basically it will be moving to a new location soon. Thought that was the best thing to do. I just notified the owner as well. Again thank you!!! :)

How do you get notifications when someone replies to your post on a board? Didn't we used to be able to do that?

Our, or at least *my*, communication is pretty poor because there's nothing to draw me back to the thread. An email would be great!

On My Page, I keep handy the button, ' Replies to my posts'. At least, that's how I think it is worded. It may be burried on your My Page, at the bottom.

I've got a "Replies to my posts" button on the "Favorite Boards" widget. I don't known if that's the only way to bring it up though.

I just read the story of Ilvermorny on pottermore.com and it sounds so cool. Back in the 1600s it seemed pretty darn isolated!
It's sad how much of the Harry Potter books I forget! I'm rereading them all to my family and we're on Goblet of Fire right now.
I so wish I could go to a Wizarding school!

I always post when I'm going out of town, usually on the boards so people don't see it multiple times.

The work address I've been giving people as they send the "ready?" email, which I would have done in the 2 cases I mentioned but never got the emails. I'm fine with either address but when I'm the last to receive one & the person wants the box home for an event or to plant, they now have to wait until I can pick it up on a Saturday & mail on the following Monday.

Another case has been when a package gets delivered to my po box on a Tuesday & the owner is asking me Thursday & Friday if I've mailed it yet. Mailed it? I don't even have it in my possession yet! I posted back in February 2015 about only being able to get to my po box once a week.

Heres an article about another letterbox that was on tcu property: https://www.tcu360.com/story/32914camp-project-shut-down-university-drive/

It was before we started boxing. I found it by searching for fort worth lb clues.

I don't know tcu area very well, but can look around and see what I can do. I do know of a park near there. I can see if there's a good place for it.
would you like us to get it?

It depends, are we talking about an average traditional box, an exceptional box, or just a mediocre box? For the most part however, I would suggest an average number of pages for an average logbook. Any more and it would be an above average logbook, and any fewer would make it a below average logbook. I have however always fancied the number 42. You can't go wrong with 42!

I usually try for 20-30 stamp-ins, if possible. This is based on the boxing activity in my area, and how often I want to replace a log book.

For my very first plant (newbie then) I got one of those cute $3 books from Hobby Lobby, because I thought I would get tons of people visiting. I got six before I had to retire the box. Talk about overkill. I have a logbook with lots of blank pages left.

My two most visited boxes (easy stroll/drive by) have had around 20 visitors within a 2-1/2 year time period. I just realized that they are not even in the same county in which I live (><).

Other parts of the country probably have different numbers.

30. I figure that should fit at least 60 stamps, and only has one letterbox I made filled completely up, and been replaced. I dont get high traffic, typically.

Find it and see what you think. I feel it would last better in a safer location. Let me know the clues to the new location so I can change them.

As PapaSolo said, he's already posting updates from TrailTroll's sister, Lori, in several places. But there seem to be a lot of people following TrailTroll's progress on the United States board here. Since it seems like TrailTroll can use all the prayers and positive vibes she can get, I will try to post updates from the Michigan board onto the US board. Since I'm on AtlasQuest all the time anyway, I figure it's the least I can do.

PapaSolo posted the following this morning:

I received an email yesterday from Trailtroll's sister, Lori, about TT's current condition, but when I got home and attempted to post it, I couldn't find it on my pc, so I'm going from memory here (ha!). The hospital is moving Kristin to ICU, down from critical care, so that's good news, and they are removing some of her tubes, so that's more baby steps in the right direction. I asked Lori to resend me her email, and if she does, or if I find the original, or get more info, I'll be sure to pass it along. Lori sends a sincere thank you to everyone who sends their positive thoughts, vibes, and prayers. Things are getting better. :)

Thanks, Dawnkey. Our letterboxing community is a wonderful group of people, based on the people I've met. TrailTroll is a fighter, but we can make the fight easier by supporting her with prayer and cards. If anyone would want her address, AQ message me and I can send it to you. PapaSolo is also willing to do so.

I had this happen once, and I left it for the next person. Although, funny story, I found it later the same day. I planted it in a box.... Then several hours later went letterboxing elsewhere, and there it was! Someone had found where I planted it, and moved it across town, and I found it again. So, left it. However, as someone else mentioned, I think if it had been sitting a long time in a distant box, I would have taken it again and moved it.

I signed up for the LTC tracker, and would be willing to donate my stamp to the cause if Rocklun wanted to plant a Harry Potter series up there

Same here, I signed up for both trackers and even have a previous stamp (Severus Snape and separate Always carve) I'd toss in for any plants up that way.

I think it depends on where you plant it. Is it a high traffic area? Somewhere where severa boxes are planted - like a cemetery?
If it's a lone box - you probably don't need many. I aim for about 18-20 pages that has space for about 40 stamp-ins. But they seldom fill.
Now in an area like a cemetery, where lots of boxes reside - these areas get high traffic because people box all day long in one place - and you may need room for 80 or so stamp-ins. And expect to replace it after a few years.
In my area spring grove cemetery has nearly 200 boxes, and every logbook that has been here any length of time is always full, and general a second book has been added to the box, and is full.

I'd be happy to help with an Ilvermorny series, if someone wanted to plant boxes relating to the story that takes place on Greylock.

Also, as a huge fan of the works of Rowling/Robert Galbraith and a born and raised resident of Massachusetts, this new revelation has me fangirling pretty hard :)

There's not notification when someone replies to one of your posts. Not for premium members or anyone, although it is on my to-do list.
