I think it would be fun to display both. Keep one behind the other inside the frame and each year as you go to add the new year's photo, take the one from the back and put it in the front. This doesn't bring any attention to the fact that she repeated and at the same time, you get to see both pictures, mom. :)

Instead of getting one that has the grades printed on it, find a frame that allows you to display 12 pictures with no labels. Or buy a frame and cut your own mat. Or have a professional cut it. Then when she has her senior pic, it goes NEXT to the frame, not in it. :)

Have you considered skipping the 1st grade picture instead? She would probably still look young enough to "start" school on her 2nd grade picture; but, may not show the gap between 3rd and 4th...

Photo shop, or similar. Reduce the size of the picture, by making it long and slim, then put two pictures to each frame. Maybe, instead, using one from the school, and one from Walmart, or some such, even maybe go so far as to include it from a great close up snap shot that year, instead. If you have two pics in each frame it may not be so obvious there are two of that same year, if I have made sense...

A lot of work, but doable...

Maybe look online and see if you can get a frame made for parents in Canada, where kids go to school through grade 13, so it has an extra spot. Obvs., the spots would need to be unlabeled, but it might be workable. Or I liked the idea about doing a standard one, without year labels, including all the pictures through grade 11, and doing the senior pic full-size in a separate frame.

i created my own smash book for a vacation i took. It was so FREEING! Just plop things in any old way and with any kind of adhesive/staple/tape. Didn't worry at all about if the colors matched. just had to make sure i had photos that were not opposite some kind of terrible stuff that would fade the photo. But that was easily accomplished by putting the photos in archival sleeves.

Have fun smashing.

I loved mine so much I bought one for each kind of interest I have. I totally cleaned the house of little scraps of paper that I'd had around for . . . well longer than I want to admit!

After foraging around I found enough old ticket stubs that I think I'll make something totally different with them instead. collage them on something.

Have fun!
Scrapbook or logbooks. To make or not to make. That...

my friends is a big dilemma in life right now. *sheesh* i spend so much time making logbooks because they are a quick creative fix. i find my scrapbooking goes on forever. Truth be told i did finish a whole scrapbook album of our recnt trip, but that's the only scrapbooking i've done in a long while. i find myself getting sucked into making journals and logbooks or carving. The instant gratification, well not so instant but still, i can get a project off my craft table. i guess that's why people make cards. Its done and off the grid.
Is anyone else having this difficult decision? Scrapbooking vs letterboxing?

My dilemma is lits of ideas, just trouble getting started and not being distracted. Now for you: altered art journals. They're fantastic and employ both elements, however they are ongoing projects. Different: iwas ina ring a while where we all opened a box full of odds. Ends and ephemera. A 45 record, bingo cards, keys, playing cards etc. all these were bound with wire and other binders to create a ligbook. A stamp was included of course. Best ring I'veparticipated in and most creative fun. Once I opened the box and went thru the containers of odd scrapbooking supplies that were included, I spent roughly 17 mins on my contributionand was done. Very very cool scrap/ligbook for the owner!!!!!

I'd also like to add that while I despise my now turnred-off autocorrect, my fat fingers on my mobile: I long for it's inaccurate and ridiculous asumptions, 3-letter corrections and interruptions during my typing.

My issue is finding supplies in my crap room--which it literally is right now!!

So, I am trying very hard to finish cleaning/decluttering/organizing and hope I will have opportunities this winter to finish all those outstanding projects so I can then catch up on my scrapbooking etc.

Hope Springs eternal.....especially when seated at a newly cleaned desk!

My dilemma is letterboxing or quilting! I thought these two hobbies worked well together since I could quilt in the winter and letterbox in the other three seasons but I find that I letterbox throughout the year! If the weather is too bad to hit the trail, I am carving and getting new boxes ready. Now, I have a BIA which is calling to me! I have 6 quilts promised for new babies and family members which are high on my list right now. I have to get two of those done by August 24th so they can get on a plane to Colorado with my sister. My plan is to get my "for others" quilts done first and then spread the others out so they are manageable and don't impact on my letterboxing time. My other big problem is that I love to letterbox with the hubs! It's something we both enjoy doing together. Quilting is a solitary hobby for the most part.

Scrapbooking vs letterboxing?

No dilemma, I haven't scrapped in years. I love that I get to use those supplies in making log books and LTCs for letterboxing. They aren't languishing in boxes or on shelves at least. I think once the kids are in college I'll be able to do baby books (-:

What to use to represent birthstones?
Board: Scrapbooking

Hi
Hopefully this is the right board to post on....I am making a simple family tree. I found a piece of scrapbook paper that I will be gluing everyone's name in order on it. I am not writing birth or death dates. Its more of just a who is who and who belongs to who kind of thing.

But I thought to add a little color I could glue some type of thing to represent the birthstone. There are a lot of people and most likely will have every month represented. Its only a paper thing, and I think I am going to put it in a simple frame, so it cant be too dimensional. Just something of color. I was thinking of maybe a sequin?

We made something a few years ago for my parents, with just our family on it. We painted a picture of a tree, then got little wooden apple cutouts for the people and painted their name and birthdate on it. Then drilled a teeny hole and inserted a tiny earing in it. In proper birthstone color. but that was more 3D.

So any ideas?

thanks
vicki

There are all colors of gemstones out there that are self adhesive. They have slight thickness, but not to much!

That's interesting. Where I am (New England) I always find them on endcaps and sticker aisles. Then again the ones I buy are self-adhesive and intended for scrapbooking - perhaps you're talking about something different?

Ah, missed the self adhesive part. There are cheaper ones in the section that I mentioned that are not self adhesive. I am in Maine, if that makes a difference.

Any Project Life fans out there in AQ world? I am working on my first year, doing 4 books though. One for each child and a family book. I am so excited that PL is coming to Hobby Lobby. If you are not familiar with it. Let me just say it is a very simplistic way of scrapbooking for all of us who long to scrap but simply dont have the time or creativity to do a traditional book.
Take a look here for more info.

Thank you for the link. I started scrap booking with my firstborn. His book got up to month 8 (he's 10 years old), my second born's book is up to month 5 (she is 8), for my third child (5 years old) I have an empty book, a stack of paper (that I'm now dipping into for LTCs) and a box of pictures, my 4th child (age 3 1/2) recently began asking me, "where is MY picture?" since I didn't even have one on the wall. I printed some pictures, put 1 in a frame and that is all. PL looks doable.

If I did this right, this is the picture of the family tree I made. I wanted the gems to give it some color. In my family we have at least one birthday in each month.
