I'm such a good hubby, I bought her her own car!

"good husband" has nothing to do with economic situation. It's nice to know you can easily afford multiple cars, insurance, gas, maintenance, etc...but spending money is not what makes someone a good husband.

good husbands love their wife, they take care of them and protect them. good husbands help their wives out, and support them in every way they can. good husbands take careful care of the availble finances, which sometimes means not making expenditures that can't be afforded.

The very word "husband", as a noun meand a married man. As a verb, however, it means a careful, prudent, and frugal manager.

I'm glad that you feel that, in your economic situation, buying your wife her own car makes you a good husband. maybe it does. maybe you can afford it, and providing her with her own transportation is how you can best protect, care for, and provide for her.

There's no need to imply that someone who does not buy his wife her own car is not a good husband, though. There's much you don't know about his situation. Perhaps by taking her to work, he is caring for her because her car is temporarily in the shop. He obviously needs the car during the day because he is helping and taking care of both his wife and his children by caring for his grandson. He could let her drive to work while he selfishly remains in b ed, then park his grandson in front of the television; but he cares enough to get up, take her to work, and then take his grandson letterboxing. He cares enough for his family to spend his time doing things for them.

I'm not saying that you're not a good husband. I'm not saying that he's a better husband than you. I'm just trying to remind you, and others, that there's more to being a "good" husband, than spending money on the family.

I asked a woman after searching the place, if they had any carving material for rubber stamps and she just said "No." and went back to stocking shelves. Disappointing.

Yes, very disappointing. I live in a relativley small town and I went to our local "art store" and when I asked if she had any EZ Carve or "pink Stuff" she just looked at me like I asked her is she carried Plutonium! She didn't even offer to see if she could order anything for me:(

My best place for non-carving stuff has been WalMart...I hate to say. I have to do what I have to do!

I don't understand why they don't just put them with the stamp stuff.

economics. if more scrapbookers realized you could carve your own unique stamps, they wouldn't buy so many storebought stamps. if you put the stamp carving stuff by the stamps, more people will buy stamp carving stuff, and far fewer of the other stamps will be bought. this way, most of the people buy the storebought stamps, and those who know you can carve your own find the carving supplies and buy them. the store makes more money.

it actually makes more sense for them to put it in with the block-printing supplies, though, since that's what speedball actually makes it for. we have perverted its intended use when we slice it up and make it into rubber stamps.

it does make a wonderful rubber stamp, though...

I'm heading to Southport NC this weekend. I've got a list of clues printed and my letterboxing bag packed. They just had torrential rain but it's supposed to be nice and sunny tomorrow. Should be great weather for letterboxing.

I think the only reason she shared the clue is because she knows she wont be able to figure it out by herself!

That's what I said to my husband when she shared it. It wasn't because she was trying to ally with Brenda. If Brenda finds the idol first, I bet NaOnka will beat her to a pulp for it. If she had any game plan she would tone down the attitude and stop being so angry and selfish.

I planted a box in Jordans Furniture on Sept 25 for the " We all sceam for ice cream searie 2010" I apologize if this sounds like I'm promoting my box, but the truth is I'm afraid if it doesn't get activity the manager will get rid of it. She is great, but was a little hesitant not understanding the hobie. She did look it up, and finally agreeed to keep a box. So if your in the area check it out so it is validated. I hope the manager keeps it for a long time.

when I did check they carried absolutley no carving material at all.

It might be worth noting that there are two different types of Michael's stores. They're both the same company but the stores are markedly different. I believe one has the name Michael's in red while the other has black script. The black script type store is utterly worthless, judging from the one time I was in one.

The one that I went into was titled "Michael's Arts & Crafts". Based on the name I felt it was a good assumption that I was in the right store, but alas...

I think she needed a reason to explain the actions and smashed food (too bad about the bananas) to direct attention away. Not my fault, but the bananas got smashed because homegirl wouldn't give me the clue...its her fault, watch that leg around campfire. Also, she was busted with the clue and had to say so, share the blame, as it were. I also think the other girl is going to figure out the clue and not tell her.

Remember, ticks can be picked up off the trail and in the city. My daughter had Lyme Disease when she was 3 or 4. We lived in middle of Newport News and hadn't been on any trails or out to the country. The only way I can imagine her getting it is from drainage systems that run behind through the neighborhoods behind the houses. The first time we took her to the doctor, they diagnosed her with the flu...

I was pretty sure he was being facetious, because I knew it was Kirbert...but I also know the "target" might not know Kirbert as well...and I also think it's a point worth being reminded on every once in a while, that love doesn't equal spending money.

I also knew I wouldn't hurt kirbert's feelings by pointing the reminder in his direction...because he is a good hubby, and a good man.

I have to disagree with this. I've been an avid stamper for years... probably 20 years or more. I knew long ago that you could carve your own stamps but why would I? It was easy to just buy what I needed and I never had a need for anything that I couldn't find. I've used mounted stamps and even used unmounted stamps long before you could buy them at a store (had to specially mail order those). I was always able to find what I needed and had absolutely no desire to carve my own. Of the people I know that are avid rubber stampers, I'd be willing to bet that not one of them would ever even consider carving their own for the same reason... why should they when there are literally thousands of choices available? The only time I found a need to carve my own was when I started boxing. Now that I'm getting better at carving, I know that if there's a type of stamp image I want that I can't find, I can just carve it myself. But then again, I still buy rubber stamps that are commercially made. Now I wonder why I would want to spend so much time carving the "perfect" stamp when I would just keep it locked up inside my house? A carved stamp should be shared by releasing it into the wild.

Your skills at the find are awesome!
It was thrilling looking at the logbook

And here is one that my daughter did when she was about three and barely able to put a sentence together.

We were in Wal-mart and she was toddling along side the cart. She saw a young man ahead of her that she could she his boxers. Then she started marching as if she was on a mission. She got this young man's attention and she put her hands on her hips and said "Your panties are showing and that is disgusting." Sigh......out of the mouth of babes. To his credit the young man turned red and walked away.

It is hard watching your kids make mistakes. I can empathize with you. My daughter has struggled for a long time with long term friends as well. I wonder what I did so wrong that I didnt provide her with a sense on how to make and keep friends. I feel often as I have failed her and myself in the process. It is very very hard for me too. I don't know what to do for her at this point but accept it as it is and try to work on skills as I can.

I think the saddest part about NaOnka's attitude is that she is a PE teacher. What kind of example is she setting for her students (that I know are probably watching) about teamwork, sportsmanship and just being nice in general.

quote> you've given me an added incentive to get there next year

It was worth going, even without a box to plant. Richard Holloway's session was sparkling...clear, moving, stimulating. Funky wee town as well. I'll definitely go back, and probably plant a few boxes on the way down next time. The Queen's Way (the road through Galloway Forest Park) was really beautiful, and I'm sure there are lots of lovely walks accessible from that route. We had a wee peek at Glen Trool on the way back home (via a different route), and again, lots of good possibilities for walks and boxes.

The stump was relocated to use in the first OHmazing Race. (Ask about the cassette tape incident on the Ohio Board - it's good for a few laughs!) The ammo can that was originally in the stump was the Cache Vault letterbox. It had a padlock on it that could be opened using the clues from the Treasure Hunter's letterbox series. It started with 3 stamps I carved and I was hoping to have the finders add a stamp to the mix creating a nice little potpourri. But...
Soon after planting it, I got several e-mails from a newbie that couldn't figure out how to open it and she was mad because she had dragged her kids all that way out into the woods and played with the lock for over 30 minutes and didn't get it open. Next thing I know the whole ammo can was missing. Never to be found again. Maybe she took it home to cut the lock and then decided it wasn't worth returning. It's highly unlikely that it was found by a muggle. It was well off the trail.
I would love to get it planted again, but I'm a little burnt out on carving right now.
