If you have yours saved in your preferences you should see it. For me - it takes anywheres from 2-3 minutes to 15-20 minutes. I think it might depend on the size of the file.

It takes a little bit because AQ only checks it every once in a while to see if new blogs have been posted. And only the people that are subscribed to your blog will see it when it does appear. Hope that helps.

My mom ALWAYS adds pears to her applesauce. It gives it a unique and wonderful flavor that is hard to place if you do not know they are in there but adds depth of flavor. You could try that?

Oh Mandy. Hugs to you. It does get frustrating when the players won't play and the image I'm one's head is far removed from the page. I like the "crappy-onet" word. or however you spelled it. Very descriptive.

how long does it take for AQ to realize you've posted someting new

I'm not sure, but I don't think it's not too long (24 hours maybe). But you can force the recognition. Go to My Page > My Profile then click on the link to your blog, then on the red checkmark that is labelled "update".

Hey Hog, If the "poachers were acting in good faith (which it sounds as if they might have been) I think I would explain the situation to them and expect they would quickly understand that their good faith effort was misguided and remove the box to be replanted somewhere else (with its own set of clues). Alternately, make it into a bonus box and move it a reasonable distance away with directional clues in your box.

Just my two cents worth,
heyokah man
(who knows that Funhog's clues and hides can be wickedly tricky)

Has anyone ever tried using a small thermos to plant in?

I have used two of them in the past, a pair of cup-o-soup thermoses that were short and wide with a great big lid. Got them from a yard giveaway -- a pile of stuff in someone's front yard with a sign saying "Take what you can use." Used 1-1/2" adding machine paper to make a log, and wrapped it around the inside of the thermos. No baggies; the thermos is most definitely watertight.

Unfortunately, both of those boxes have since gone missing. The containers worked fine, though.

Right now I have another Thermos waiting for duty. This is a taller and narrower version, although it is actually a Campbell's Soup thermos, red and white and looks like a big Campbell's Soup can. I haven't even painted it yet -- I'm actually waaaay ahead on containers right now, no need to press this one into service just yet -- but the inside is definitely a bit tight, will only fit a small log and stamp.

These are all plastic. None have the silvery glass vacuum bottles inside. Do they even make those any more? If they do, I wouldn't use one as a letterbox container unless the glass bottle has already been removed.

Why 528 feet? Just curious!

1/10 mile. It also happens to be the point at which some GPS units switch from displaying decimal miles to displaying feet.

Most handheld GPS that geocachers are accurate within 10-20 ft. The 528 ft distance was chosen to prevent any likelihood of overlap.

No, it wasn't. That point has been beaten to death on the geocaching forums. To avoid overlap, a minimum spacing of 100 feet would have been more than sufficient. 1/10 mile separation was chosen to limit geocache saturation -- which is a real problem in geocaching. Land managers would be nervous that allowing one geocache in their park will open the floodgates and there will be zillions. Since each one must be 1/10 mile from all others, land managers feel more comfortable that their parks won't become infested with micros everywhere.

My granddaughter (Leaf Eater) is growing her hair long just for this cause. Her hair is a gorgeous red color, as many of you know. -Rose

My younger sister (who is handicapped) also has beautiful red hair & continually grows hers for Locks of Love. My 16 year old niece died of cancer in January and had benefited from a (blonde) wig from them. Wonderful organization.

I'm all KINDS of interested in this. Which mystery did you buy? I just spent about 2 weeks looking at different ones online and found some of them really complicated. Could more kids have played or was 21 the limit of the game?

I'd love some more details!

Just do a search for all the letterboxes in the vicinity and go find them all!

Ah, but sometimes you can still be surprised. I checked the postings for a town, figured I was safe, and planted a box. After it had been found several times, someone emailed me, "do you know that there's a box right above yours in the wall?" I did not know that! And I didn't realize it, because that box was part of a multi-town series that was listed under a different town! Still have to get out and find that series. I do wonder whether people accidentally finding the other box while looking for my box generated some new searches for that series, which was a few years old at the time. It's also definitely hard to determine whether you're accidentally planting near a mystery box!

Just my 2¢

For those who are interested, the results of the voting for the November stamp were:

yellow dog--3
donkey--5
elephant--3
turkey--11

Turkey it is! It will be planted sometime on Election Day, so you still have a couple of days to check out the October stamp...

A series of events, leading up to a man from my hometown taking 12 children hostage in an elementary school in a neighboring town, has made national news. Please send out your thoughts and prayers to all the children at Stockton Springs Elementary School. All the children were effected by the incident. The school officials did a outstanding job getting the children off the premises, and the local police departments did an great job as well.

Stockton Springs along with Searsport and Frankfort, is part of the school district where I went to school. Many of the my old schoolmates have children who attend SSES. My grandfather was born and buried in Stockton, and my grandmother grew up in a house that stands about 1000 yards from the man's home. I've actually planted a small series in a cemetary in view of the elementary school, and the next tour the fort is planned to be at the state park in Stockon next year.

I've included a couple of local news stories.

...when's that darn D & D ring gonna start? Well, if you're after the Highlander and I in the mailing list, the only reason you've not gotten a box is because of your ringleaders (which would be, ummm...us!).

Apparently, we've had 3 boxes, plus our own (total = FOUR) in this house, and I didn't realize it until about 2 weeks ago as we began cleaning and the Highlander mentioned these were stamps. Oh, sure, I know we had our own (since I was, yes, STILL carving it) and I knew we had Cain's monster, but the others were just mysterious envelopes which blended into the overall shambles that is our house once school starts.

Anyway, I apologize for holding things up again...I know many of you wanted to get going right away, but I probably should have put a foot down and just waited until the time was right for us. Regardless, the stamps are back in motion now. Mouse now has ours and the IAP, my sister-in-law, has Cain's, Enchantress's and Spooky Group's. If I turn into a black hole again, I'll ask Cath to skip us so the rest of you can enjoy without waiting.

As for the posts and finds (although I'm the LAST person who should be saying this), please don't forget to post your finds as well as write your adventures with the monster on the boards. Part of what makes this ring fun is reading about the adventures of your fellow players, so don't JOIN me in ruining that for others! :-) Also, I really can't give your character experience points if you DON'T post, so even if you don't want the 250XP for the adventure, at least say "I got Spooky Group's monster and beat it!" so I know to give you the XP in my handy dandy Excel Spreadsheet of Experience Point Bestowing and Calculating!

Well, enough for now...the Highlander and I have a ton of monsters to fight and adventures to post today! Enjoy your boxes and let's hear from the rest of you!
