As part of my Southern Letterboxing tour next month, I will be in the Charlotte Area planting some letterboxes and hopefully finding a few boxes! I am up for meeting some local boxers and exchanging signature stamps! Lets plan something.

Went to Bunker Hill Covered Bridge today and could not find the box. Also a note, the parking lot is officially closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's. But we left our car and walked in, it is such a short walk anyway.

This box could very easily go missing the next time the gardener replants this area in Downtown Statesville, so I recommend that you find it as soon as you can!

Bon Jovi will continue its tour at a new location in NC this weekend. He's moving north.

We visited this spot over a year ago and could not locate the box either. We believe that the excessive rain from the spring of that year (03) washed it downstream. We contacted the placer with a promise to check on the box, but never got another response. We belive they may be out of the game.

Well, I had a great visit with my Granny in NC and was able to do a little letterboxing while I was here. Got to meet the 'Boxing Bee Bunch and we had a terrific time talking letterboxing for several hours.

I'll be back in town in the middle of December, so perhaps I can meet some more local letterboxers.

Just started this past weekend - curtesy of our unbelievably warm weather. Found one box in Chapel Hill and one in Cary. I would love to get to know others in the triangle area.

These Boxes are not listed on Atlas Quest, but I had a great time hunting for them the other day. The log books are really great and the stamps are store-bought, but the trails are interesting. (One of the letterboxes is by an old abandoned outhouse! :-) All in all, a fun day letterboxing.

We enjoyed these boxes the other weekend as well and have plans to plant one here in the future. Just finished carving it the other day.

I was only in town for USAirways international training (which is an all day thing) and I didn't think I would get time for letterboxing. I got out of class an hour early and had my Mom drive me down to McDowell so I could get the boxes. I was not dressed for hiking! (I was wearing a skirt and nice shoes). It probably would have been hilarious to see me tramping about the trail after those boxes!! I had a ton of red clay mud all over my shoes by the time I was done and I ended up hoofing it barefoot back along the handicapped access trail and the road to the Nature Center!! It took quite a while to clean my shoes! I was also racing against the sun as it was setting and my Mom was convinced that we were going to be stuck inside the park after "dusk"!

We had dinner at Sonny's BBQ on Tivola before she took me back to the airport.

Sounds like you had quite a time! The red clay here is a mess to clean up! I once got locked into Bond Park in Raleigh looking for the Bond, Fred Bond series. It taught me to park outside the park gates if I were to be boxing in a race against daylight. Hope the stamp was worth it! Maybe you should consider bringing a change of shoes with you at all times, LOL.

We can vouch for the level of clay on your shoes. We visited the park a couple of days after heavy rains as well and felt like we were carrying bricks on the soles of our shoes. If you can picture it we were actually pushing our son in a jogging stroller through all of the trails for box 1 & 2. Needless to say, not an easy task.

I can't image a stroller on that Ridge Trail! I was sliding down the side of the gully as it was!! I consider myself lucky that I didn't slide down and really get clay everywhere. I was so happy to get back to that asphalt on the handicapped access trail. That's when I took my shoes off and started the cleaning process. I was still scraping clay off of them in the restroom at Sonny's BBQ!

I went to Reedy Creek park and hiked for 2 hours and got 2 letterboxes today (Sierra Backpacker and Stonehouse). I decided not to heed the fact that Boxing Bee Bunch had not posted their box as "kid friendly" and took my 3 boys anyway (6,7, and 9). I told the boys the path was not "stroller friendly" according to the clues so they spent the whole time talking about how each root in the path would fling any baby in a stroller into a tree (and then making splatting noises). They pointed to the paint dots on the trees to indicate the paths and said that was where the baby splatted. They pointed out every "splat" excitedly (it really doesn't take much to entertain them...). The path was also not "kid friendly" (the fact that I had chose to ignore). The kids thought the mud and rough terrain was a great adventure,though. There was a drop off to a creek with a mudslide on the other side at one point. We formed a human chain to help everyone across without flopping in the mud except me. I got everyone over, but they weren't much help in pulling me up the other side! Of course, watching Mom floundering in the mud below them was very funny to them. They begged to take the same path back while I found an alternate route (no doubt hoping to see me in the mud again). I had to admit that it was an adventure. Both stamps were very high quality and well worth it, though (plus the boys should sleep well tonight!).

We also considered taking a stroller for our 9 month old when planting the box without truely knowing the trail. Thank God we decided not to bring it.

BBB visited the Wilmington area this past weekend for a boxing adventure. There are quite a few great boxes in the area by noydb, Kilroy, Amanda from Seattle, and others. It made for a great boxing weekend. We would highly recommend a visit. Thanks to all of those who planted and continue to maintain these boxes.

Since you are from NC, you should follow this board and also the Southeast board. Use this site to find boxes around you. Go to Letterboxes and do a search for Charlotte. You'll find a bunch that way. Also, go to www.letterboxing.org and click on NC for other clues. Finally, join yet another list...

We are from Gastonia and have planted a few boxes around NC. We have one in Reedy Creek, Sierra Backpacker. There are a few others in Reddy Creek as well. All of these clues can be found by searching this site.

Welcome to letterboxing! Here at the atlasquest website you can search for letterbox clues by city. At the LBNA website,
www.letterboxing.org you click on the book for clues and it leads you to a map of the USA. Then click on NC and then on the area in NC you are interested in...the clues are arranged by county. Have fun surfing these websites for letterboxing info! There is also going to be a Letterboxing gathering May 21st in Greenville, SC. This would be a great way to meet other letterboxers and see what this hobby is all about.

It looks like you already got some speedy responses from some "veterans". All I can add is "welcome!" I have boxes in Charlotte and Matthews. I use the hobby as a free activity to run the energy out of 3 boys. You just can't beat a free "treasure hunting" hike in the great outdoors for a good night's sleep! My boys loved the Rock house ruins at Reedy Creek. It was fun to pick up some history on it and imagine those that lived there.

Ditto for part of the reason we letterbox, too! Nothing like taking our two kids on 6 mile hikes hunting for stamps in the woods to get them to fall asleep at night!!! Without letterboxing, I don't think they'd ever fall to sleep!!!
