This should be a fun feature, although I don't anticipate it getting a lot of use in my parts since there are only a few letterboxers in ID at all, but I'm happy to chime in if anyone has questions or comments about the area.

Till then,

Patience, young grasshopper. They will come.... ;o)

At least you get a few lurkers like me running around. Wait! I just posted! *drats!* That means I'm not a lurker anymore. =(

Now that A-Bear has her computer up and running again, maybe we'll see her on the boards too!
Ryan and I are hoping to do a Washington to the Dakotas road trip this coming year and if so, we will be going thru Idaho again. So glad to see so many new boxes (and 'boxers) in the area!

Idaho Road Trip?

Oooh! Another trip through Idaho, eh? I would love to get in on that one. I've only been letterboxing for a few months now, but I've hooked my mom and now my niece and nephew. I've seen all your stamps in area boxes, (or the Pusmobile HH), but would love to have them in my logbook!

We finally got some boxes planted so we can pay back A-bear and also Kelly (blackvelvetrav) for all the work they've been doing around the Treasure Valley. We've had a lot of fun finding their boxes and, I'm happy to say, they got a chance to find a few of ours recently. So fun to hear that your little creation is appreciated.

Cadenza, we actually seem to have quite a little community here locally now. There are at least 5 of us active boxers, and a few more that have planted a box or two, but I haven't heard much else from. Don't worry, we WILL get out your way someday to plant some boxes. I finally saw your signature stamp and really liked it! I used to get out there for horse shows - I'll have to find another excuse now.

I'm going to be heading through Portland and down to the coast (Yachats) around Christmas. I've designated a few hours on the 22nd for letterboxing and/or an exchange or two. Any takers? I'll also post on the Oregon board and maybe Washington (in case there are any Vancouverites around.)

Thanks for creating this board Ryan - I was wondering about starting an Idaho board on the Yahoo groups, but now I don't need to. (Yeah! I really don't like those yahoo groups much.)

Yeah, I hate those Yahoo Groups too. I've wanted to create a replacement for years! And then it's kind of annoying to subscribe to so many different groups individually.

The Pusmobile HH made it to Idaho, huh? =) It is an interesting one!

A-Bear is on atlas quest, but I'm not sure if she has checked out the boards yet. I'm pretty sure she would post if she had. Isn't she fun! She has become one of my really good letterboxing friends. We have spent a lot of time tromping out to find boxes together, rain, 3 feet deep snow, or shine. Brrrr!

I posted a big list note to you about your potential trip to Montana. If I have a general idea of when you are coming I would love to leave some boxes for you both to find. I really appreciated your ones from your Ochre Rock trip. I may just have to try either some long hikes or a really funky clue to keep Ryan happy. Most of my clues so far have been pretty straight-forward to help as things are growing, but I'm beginning to feel the itch to add more challenge. I have tried to make the stamps be good to keep it worth hunting. If you are interested, I would love to have a mini-gathering or meet up for an exchange/hike/whatever when you come.

-I've been watching anxiously and seen that growth. It is exciting. I actually drove out to Aryn's for a little gathering we had when her sister dv2r ckr came out and I met three others that had recently begun letterboxing at that point. Have you met Lori Darlin', Hannah Oakley, and Doc Peabody (the painless dentist and proctologist--don't ask! :) I love to see that others are coming and I am excited to be able to meet you. I have noticed your posts and your new letterboxes. Now I need to come find them-to just have the time for the 5 hour drive!

I finally saw your signature stamp and really liked it!

-Thank you, I enjoyed carving it. I think you would have seen my newer sig stamp. My old one was the first carving I ever did. It was impressive for a first carving, but got old quickly for me as my skills improved. Now I keep it for memory's sake.

Thanks for the comments from all! Good luck, and we are so glad to have you on board. It is a crazy, fun ride from here!

That's a bit far to be planning ahead for a trip, don't you think?! =) But anyhow, except for a vague notion of heading out to North and South Dakota since neither of us have been out there before (well, Amanda has been to South Dakota, but North Datoka is new for her--but I haven't been to either of them), we figured it might make a good adventure. Beyond famous places like Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, or Custer's Last Stand, we don't have a clue where we'll visit. =) Well, not yet, at least!

A-Bear, I'm excited that you finally logged in! It will be nice to have another Idaho letterboxer using this site. I know that you have used the mail feature, but I'm curious to see if you will discover the boards, so I'm leaving you this little treat for when you do.

I can't wait until you add your boxes. Right now I only have about 1/4 of my finds marked as finds since they aren't on AQ yet.

Cadenza
ps. I'm really looking forward to a little letterboxing/rafting this summer. We'll have to branch out and find more.

Just an update that I have signed on. A-Bear e-mailed me about the Atlas Quest Site and I just spent the last two hours posting my boxes with links over to the Letterboxing.org site.

A-Bear is on the road but also posted her boxes this week so our little band of Idaho letterboxers can get more of their finds logged.

I am working on some new boxes (and one replacement - darn) and will have them posted and out in the wilds soon. First finder artifacts will be included. Keep your eyes posted!

It's generally not recommended that you post your e-mail address on these message boards. It's not forbidden, but definitely not recommended. Evil doers like to crawl websites looking for e-mail address to add to their spam list.

At the moment, the message boards are for logged in members which will thwart most spammers, but that restriction is in place only because of a technicality that causes it not to work properly if someone is not logged in. I've fixed that problem in the next version of AQ I'll be uploading in April, however, at which point anyone will be able to read these messages--including search engines like Google and evil-doers such as those looking to find e-mail addresses for spamming.

Happy trails!

Howdy. Yep I'm way slow when it comes to computers. =-) Thanks for all the fun messages, especially from all the folks that letterbox in Idaho, past, present and future. So cool.

So we're definitely in need of an Idaho gathering sometime soon. COOL! That means more letterboxes in the area to come.

When's good for folks so we can get to planning?

Thanks for this board....another spot to add to my daily searches. And I was trying to keep things simple.
I really do like Atlas Quest so far, of course I learn each day how much I don't know about this site or even LBNA. Amazing.

Thanks for keeping the boxes coming. I'll be back home to Idaho in a couple of weeks, and I am definitely needing to sleep in my own bed. Travels, without too much freedom to letterbox, is HARD on me.

Cadenza I'm so looking forward to our trip this summer....Jason's looking forward to the fishing. Did I even mention to him that there's letterboxing involved.

Grifos-I hope you were able to meet some folks in Oregon. That's so cool. There are lots of fun boxes all over. So addicting that's for sure.

Blackvelvetrav-Thanks for adding your boxes to here. Now we need to get Mother Hen and flock aboard if they're not already.

CW Sunseeker-Do you know about these boards? So much to see, so little time.

Ryan and Amanda-you're welcome anytime. Keep us posted.

Everyone-keep the boxes coming.

I need sleep.
Ciao.

Now I'm salivating at the thought. Is it something we could do on a Friday rather than a Sunday? Then I might be able to get off work, but I have Saturday committments unfortunately. We definitely need another gathering. There are several new boxers I haven't met.

Quote Did I even mention to him that there's letterboxing involved.

Of course not! He can figure it out when we pull over and start letterboxing. Jason's used to it by now isn't he? I just can't wait, now I just need to figure out how much time I can take off. I have a family committment in Dallas the end of June.

good to hear from you. Lets do get together!

My family and I have just began letterboxing as of 5-12-05.
Thanks to Kelly for all of her help! The 5 of us are very excited and I am recruiting more local boxers. We will be traveling this summer and are already planning to plant boxes in Louisianna, Oregon, Washington & Northern Idaho. My husband is the master planner and already has some great ideas for planting them around the Treasure Valley. We are all so excited about getting started. We look forward to meeting other local "boxers".
Our trail name is Inspector Gager.

Well, that would depend on where in Idaho.  That being said, I'll be on my way to Libby from Western Washington the following weekend, so I'd say probably not this time.

Looking forward to my visit.  My family lives there, and I can sprinkle the area with some boxes - it looks kind of thin there, apart from Kalispell.

Happy Hoot in Hagerman Idaho - Stamp Taken
Board: State: Idaho

Thread Board (disabled)

Apparently the last visitors on 6/11/05 took the stamp and left some odd items behind in this box (a rubber ball and pen like you get from medical/drug companies at conferences.) I think they might have been confused as this is not a Geo box.

Unfortunately, I will not get a new stamp into the box for several weeks because of traveling but will replace as soon as I can.

I am posting this information just hoping on an odd chance that whoever took the stamp will see this message and will return the stamp.  I know it's a long shot but you never know.  I will also post on the Yahoo Boards too.

I am also concerned that other boxes may be in jeopardy if they have found more than one recently.  They might just have a nice collection of stamps by now.  The horror of it all!

Thanks - Blackvelvetrav

was there any kind of note in the logbook?  Geocachers are registered more closely through their website.  You might be able to locate the last finder of the box through that and see if they have the stamp still.  I know geocaching has it's place, but it makes me crazy sometimes how it overlaps and impacts us.  You would think that most of them know the difference between a cache and an LB!

Gone FISHING for letterboxeRs lately?

This is the perfect time to meet some letterboxeRs in Idaho. You'll
have some FISHY letterboxes to find as well. The theme is anything
FISHY. Can you smell it? So if you like, dress like a FISH, flop
like a FISH, bring FISHY food, or whatever you FISH like. It might
not have to taste FISHY, but how about look FISHY, or feel FISHY?
Bring some tasty FISH snacks/drinks for others to enjoy. Get your
scales ready as you won't want to miss out on all the FISH fun.

Is this event FISHY enough for even J-Bear to attend?

Bring your friends and family and meet other letterboxers.

An option is to forget the FISH altogether, and come as you are, but
remember your letterboxing logbook and stamp to exchange with
others. Dare you bring a HitchHiker to exchange in the hostel. Go
FISH!

Here in Allentown, geocachers outnumber Letterboxers about 10:1.  I've got some friends on the 'dark side' and they had mentioned that some of the less intellectually gifted fellow cachers were very confused by some of my Letterboxes that were near the nearby caches.  I do fear for those boxes and may move them if they do not get muggled.  I'll need to contact my friends and see which boxes are perplexing the confuzzled ones...

Happy Thanksgiving! In between cooking and dishes today I re-carved a box of mine called “Happy Hoot” that needs to be replaced in Hagerman, Idaho. If anyone is going that direction in the future and would be willing to re-plant the box for me please let me know and I will mail it to you. Last I knew the actual box was still there but the stamp was missing. I have re-created the entire box to cover all bases.

Thanks!

This letterbox is a “limited edition” letterbox placed in honor of the birth of Jesus. This box was originally planted in 2004. In the year 2005 this box will only be available November 25, 2005 through December 31, 2005. The box will then be removed and will not return again until November 2006. This is a very simple and quick find due to it’s extremely limited availability.

The first seeker to find the box will be treated to a special hitchhiker who has taken flight to spread peace around the world.

Happy Hunting!
