2 New Nancy Drew letterboxes in Northern California

Nancy Drew Takes Manhattan are two letterboxes that I just hid at Black Diamond Regional Park near Antioch, CA. This is a huge park and could support more letterboxes. There is alot of interesting history in the area. I suggest that when you go out to find my boxes that you hide a box of your own as well!

I am on my way out this week and wondering if there are any boxes that you guys recommend as must finds? We will be mainly in the Pasadena area and may take a trip out to Long Beach.

Thanks! Aljan

The Rangers Arroyo Seco series was great and the Halloween series by buzzard is well worth the trip. In Long Beach, Any thing by don and gwen is well worth a stop. One of my all time favorites is signal hill.

enjoy your trip!

Hi Aljan,

If you are heading to Long Beach(or Seal Beach right next door in Orange Co.) here is a listing of our boxes that are missing, but will be replaced the first of November: Elvis of El Dorado(LB), Anaheim Landing, P100, Difficult Retrieve(last 3 in the SB Town Tour), and Shore bird in Huntington Beach.
West Wetlands(LB) needs a new logbook, but everything else should be in place.
Buzzard has a bunch in Pasadena area and since you are coming around the end of the month maybe you should do his Halloween series. I'm not sure if all on them are in place or not as we found them some time ago.

Just did Buzzard's Halloween Series 9/11/05. We were able to find Suicide Bridge, Rialto Theatre, and THe Halloween Series Ghost (needs a new small logbook). From this series The Memorial Park Moon is missing. Another good one is Q's The Morbid Tour #2 which we also found on 9/11.

In or around San Francisco?

Come find my Day of the Dead box on Wednesday, November 2, from 6:00 to 8:00. The store where the box is being hosted will have a fun party, the attached art gallery is featuring altars made by local artists, AND you'll get to meet the splendidly lovely Lady in the Hat! I'll be there, so say hi and let's visit, OK?

Can't make it on the 2nd? The box will continue to be hosted at this wonderful location for a long time, so you'll have time.

Box name is 'Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead'.

Help with a letterboxing event in Long Beach?
Board: State: California

Thread Board (disabled)
I got this e-mail:

Quote From: Michael Ann Powers

I am the events coordinator at Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Ranch &
Gardens. I am very interested in letter boxing and I am considering
presenting an event to host letterboxers and to introduce folks to the
adventure of the hunt. I want to find a local Long Beach person who
might like to help me understand the particulars of boxing and give
suggestions for a successful event, since I have no first hand
experience with boxing.

I would like the event to coinside with International Museum Day, May
18 and America Museum Week. The theme for museum week is "Museums and
Young People"

Our beautiful site will be a perfect location for a day of treasure
hunting. Hope to hear from you! You can find us at
www.rancholosalamitos.com

I'd love to see this happen, if only to have another legitimate place
where the property owners actually encourage letterboxing on their
property. =) Anyone want to help out? I'd do it except I'm not in the
area. (Just a technicality, I know, but still.....)

If so, let me know and I'll e-mail you his (or her?) e-mail address so you can contact him... or maybe her. (What kind of parent gives their kid a first name of Michael and a middle name of Ann anyhow?)

Happy trails!

Oh dear! There is one tomorrow. The Creative Thinking Workshop
http://www.atlasquest.com/events/event.html?gEventId=111

I believe that there is another one of these planned, but I'm not feeling very well, and can't find the date for it.

Paul in SF is hosting, and Princess Lea has been the one dealing with the AQ notifications. So, you could ask either of them.

Hope to see you!

The one that is happening tomorrow (1/28/06) is a presentation on creative thinking that Paul in SF plans to repeat in the near future for those who were not able to make it on this particular weekend. If you are available during certain weekends, let us know and we can add your vote to the poll that will determine when the next one will be!

Whoops. I should have made it clearer - I do know about the one you mentioned, only can't get out there for it. Was just wondering if anything planned for later in the year so I can see if I can swing a California trip. How about another Sacramento area one? I missed Gold Romp last year, but would be interested if someone is thinking of another this year. . .hint hint. :)

Thanks

It looks like there may be one(kinda) at Rancho Los Alamitos in Long Beach some time in May. Gwen & I are meeting with the recreation director this next Tuesday. I say kinda, because this will be an open house at the Rancho and the general public will be there. This will be less of a typical gathering and more like a park function. We are looking for some help on this if anyone is interested.

ARRRG! Venice Beach Box reported missing. Please help!

My Venice Beach Box, Everybody's Learnin' How, was just reported to me as missing. My first one to go missing and SUCH a bummer! I live all the way in CO so obviously won't be able to make it out soon to search for myself and verify that the box is indeed missing. If anyone is out that way, would you mind checking the clues and double checking for me???

AND...

someone offered during a time of wild, crazy surf to relocate the box for me. I'm sorry, I cannot remember who it was! I am holding on to the hope that that person picked it up and just maybe hasn't gotten back to me about it. If you know anything about it could you please email me at AljanSundance@yahoo.com?

Thanks so much. Sorry again to the folks that wasted their time hunting for a box that they couldn't find.

You may not know it, but you guys did a lovely job of hosting me last week! I live in Buffalo NY, but had the chance to visit and box in a small part of your lovely state. What great carvings! What lovely locations and intriguing clues! I had a wonderful time visiting lisascenic and Robb, and also got to meet Paul in SF.

Thanks so much Californians for taking such care with your boxes; they were a pleasure to find.

p.s. It is now my dream to have the wealth and time to come to an event in CA.

You should probably wait until fall when I will have more than two boxes hidden! Out here in the tundra there's not so much hiding that happens in winter, unless you're the intrepid Lock Wench.

Hey, guys! I'm a right-coaster who had a bad attack of the "get me the heck outta heres" last week, so I booked a flight to San Francisco in April. I'm going to be spending my spring break with my grandparents who live in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County. Are there any must-gets? I don't know how much time I'll have for boxing; my grandparents aren't really hikers, so if you could recommend some quick drive bys, I'd appreciate it. :)

Also, I'll be there from Friday the 14th to Friday the 21st. Maybe I could finagle a time when I could meet up to exchange with a few boxers in a coffee shop or something in Santa Rosa?

Email me. :) I probably won't get to check this board.

Lucky you, you will be in Mimulus territory! She has some marvelous boxes in the Santa Rosa and Sonoma areas. There are several at the Benzinger Winery that are fairly easy and your grandaprents could hang out in the tasting room while you are busy boxing. There are others that are drive-bys, but they are mystery boxes so you'll have to do some homework (in this case, watch some movies).

I will be back from Dartmoor by then, although I have some Easter plans and now I can't remember which weekend that is. I would certainly be willing to come up to Santa Rosa for the day - there are a few in that area I am still missing. I'll post something on our local Yahoo list too.
