I know it sounds like a new letterbox, but I feel like I would be poaching. The last log in the book was 2 weeks ago.

In newer versions Publisher right click the image and then go to Format Picture. Then there is a tab for Colors and Lines. The image section is probably set to Automatic. Choose greyscale or black and white. Usually black and white will be what you want. You can also adjust the darkness to show deeper lines or lighter for viewer lines etc.

The Format Picture command is also available on the toolbar if you want or you may even see a seperate toolbar for your image show up once you click on the image. The format picture icon looks like a paint can and a brush.

let me know if you need more help.

I can't get it. I can make my picture balck and white, but I can't make it be an outline like a coloring book page. I think I have the 2000 version of Publisher, so maybe it's different. Thanks

I have rocks in my flower beds from almost everywhere I go...and the small rocks are in my flower pots. Some that my sone gave me over the years are put away in little trinket boxes that I prowl thru occasionally. I even have little pebbles and rocks from Spain. The only trip I ever took abroad.

My honey and the kids have always just kinda shook their heads at my "rock hording" as they call it.

I started collecting heart-shaped rocks a couple of years ago and I have several in different sizes.

My Granny (the one who just died) would ALWAYS pick up rocks from her travels. As we were going thru her stuff last week. We found many rocks. She would mark on them with a Sharpie where they were from and the date or there would be a piece of paper wrapped around it w/ the info! When I went on a trip with her to Minnesota, I would not let her pick up just any rock, I purchased one from the Gift Shop that was painted with a scene from where we visited! Thanks for the reply..... We are currently on Aruba - arrived from Bonaire yesterday after 8 days on Bonaire. We also planted "Sand Dollar" letterbox on Bonaire - the first one for that island. No small coincidence that the name of the place we stay at on Bonaire is Sand Dollar - usually written as Sand$ in appends on BonaireTalk.com -

We checked on Sea Star yesterday, found the outer bags a bit torn - we repaced them - and the entry from Heatsong dated 8/23/05 with only "One Happy Island" in the log .. that is Aruba's motto or at least is on all the license plates. We took a few photos of the site and will be updating the clue when we get back. The box is still in the same place.

Perhaps someone else might have heard of her...... thanks again ...
We will be planting "Sea Horse" this week on Aruba - for the second one here.

best ..

Wow! Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions and help. I'm actually looking forward to a trip to the library this weekend to see if I can find some of these or interlibrary loan them.
I'm starting to get intrigued with the idea of saving money and playing with it tax free so that I don't HAVE to work if I don't want to when I get there.
Luckily I have a few months before I can sign up and get started on it to learn about what I'm actually doing!

I'm using Photoshop Elements, but what I have to do is make the picture black and white, then play with the brightness and contrast until I get what I want for the stamp.

Although a majority of cooties are bug related, i know I got one that wasn't, and I've seen others listed that weren't. Is it not really accepted to make a non-bug cootie? I like the bug idea a lot, but I have one idea for a cootie that isn't. Should I or shouldn't I?

If you are truly adopting the box, then you can do whatever you want with it.

Sometimes the hiding spot has changed (e.g., hollow tree fell apart), so for the good of the box (even though it is not lost. yet.) you should move it. If you move it any real distance, I would even consider leaving a tiny baggie under a rock at the spot of the old site, containing directions to the new spot.

I'd say the main difference between box maintenance as a fellow letterboxer and box maintenance as an adopter is that you can change the clues. As a fellow letterboxer, I can do you the kindness of replacing baggies and even a broken box, and I can add a new logbook to your box if the old one is full, but I can't change the clues.

Now if you replace a store-bought stamp with a hand-carved stamp, that is sort-of creating a whole new box, but I'm not sure anyone would complain.

Quote what I have to do is make the picture black and white

I always have trouble with the greyscale portions of the picture. Sometimes the grey gets eliminated, and sometimes it gets converted to black. Sometimes I'd rather etch a thin line between the grey and the black to show that there is a difference between the two elements.

I have also tried carving thin lines in a cross-hatch for grey, but that really doesn't look good at all.

Well, I'm no expert on cooties (perhaps we'll have to wait for CQ to give us his esteemed opinion) but my take on it is that you can carve anything you want. We've only had one cootie and it wasn't bug related. Actually, it was quite cute!

My hushand once carried a fairly heavy rock down from Mt. Manadnock because it looked like a whale! I also collect sand/dirt from interesting places I've been. I pour it into jars, slap on a label and display it. You'd be surprised how different soil can look from all over the planet.
I asked my nephew if he could send some of the Iraqi desert home but that's prohibited. Also, my Aunt brought back some sand from White Sands via her shoe. That was illegal to remove as well. Ryan's right, you need to make sure your not defacing a National Park or something!!!

Take care, Orion
