Sorry, I just play a plain ole b flat clarinet. I did enjoy your clarinet virtuals though. They were fun.

I know it has been over a year since you posted this but I just joined AQ so I am going answer now :P. I am part of a Band who plays music not only at a youth Mass, but for many other smaller and larger events in the area. I am only a vocalist but I am a "beginning" guitar player as well. Just wondering if you had any feed back from this post or how after a year your playing for the Youth Group has been going.

Peace.

Lou

I wasn't in LBing when this was posted and am new to this side of the boards. I played the horn for 12 years, took a brief 11 year vacation, and have been playing for another 3 years.

Actually I'm an average horn player and an average vocalist with an above average amount of training so that people think that I'm better than I actually am. I started learning the guitar a couple of months ago. It's been a LONG time since I struggled to play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on anything. The last instrument I learned to play was handbells (19 years ago) and I didn't struggle nearly as much with that as I do with the guitar. I'm a vocalist and I play in the orchestra at church, plus I volunteer to teach pre-school to sixth grade music for a local group.

What about y'all?

I too played piano. I picked up a chord book with finger placement, bought a cheap guitar and taught myself to play. I'm not the greatest at playing riffs, but I'm a pretty solid rhythm guitarist. If you do teach yourself, I'd suggest using capo. My friend's guitar instructor had him do that and it helped push the strings down so it was easier to learn finger position, and it didn't blister his fingers as easily either.

The web site e-chords.com is pretty good with free instructional videos, and at the bottom of all their chords sheets, they put the chords with finger placement so you can learn new ones.

Happy learning! :)

I am going on a bus trip with young children and they loved singing last year. At 63 I forget some of the words!! Imagine that?

Is there anywhere I can find the lyrics that you could recommend a site and print them out for them?

A lot of lyric websites are annoying. For kids lyrics I would check out "We Sing" songbooks from the library.
Fiddlers?

Any fiddlers here? I am a fiddler and a singer. I sing with my sisters at churches, festivals, parties, you name it, we've sang at it. Pretty fun, especially when you live in a small community and everybody knows who you are just because you sang somewhere. It doesn't help matters any that we have 10 kids. Anyway, are there any fiddlers?

I know this a bit over a year and a half after you posting this, but I just found out about the whole "groups" thing. I figured better late than never, though! :D I'm a part time french horn/mellophone player in high school! French horn for some contests and mellophone for marching band. I play trombone in regular concert band though!...and I like to jam out on the steel drums! Woo!
