Oh yes indeed, we have banter, silly poems, song rewrites, occasional videos, moaning about how many days it's been since someone has had a word called, and, consequently, photo-documented voodoo doll attacks against the bingomaster.

It's a fun time!

The rotation for hosting the annual Great Lakes Gathering (I believe this would be #22) has come around to MN for 2024. At this time, I am not aware of anyone from MN who has expressed interest in hosting. If there is anyone from MN up for hosting, please contact me.

If there are no takers from MN, the rotation would move on to IL, so if anyone from IL is interested, I’d like to hear from you also.

Questions about hosting the GLG? Please contact me or feel free to post here as there are several past hosts who I am sure would be happy to provide answers and advice!

Friendly reminder that if you'd like to play Great Lakes Letterboxing Bingo, you must submit your card to me by midnight Eastern time this coming Sunday, Dec. 31.

If you already have the instruction files, please feel free to ask me any questions you might have.

If you think you might be interested but need the files, send me your email address in an AQ message, and I'll email you the files.

Also, as of this moment no one from Minnesota has submitted a card. I can't imagine we'll have a GLLB game without any of our Minnesota friends, so get your cards in!
A pre-Bingo poem

Time is ticking away, and the Bingo cards are flooding in. The game begins on Monday morning, but I'm accepting cards until midnight tomorrow.

One Bingo card was hand-delivered to my porch today, complete with a handwritten, multi-color inked poem. I shall transcribe it here:

Hear ye, hear ye,
Come one and come all!
Are you ready for
The Bingomaster's first call?!?

Also known
As the "longest game in the land,"
Anticipating daily calls
Is certainly grand!

Starting in January,
... ending who knows when,
Lots of banter and bragging rights
Will happen until then

Ciphers, puzzles, and many poems too
Our Bingomaster also recruits
Some great "guest hosts"
For clues

Send in your booty,
You have filled out your card,
That's pretty easy--
Only the waiting is hard!

And if the Bingomaster
Is slow with your calls,
You may encourage progress
With a handy voodoo doll!

Get your pens ready,
Have your markers in hand,
Hunker on down
For the slowest, most fun game in the land!

Huzzah, huzzah,

So I'll throw a gauntlet,
And I say it with a grin,
This is the year that
This Queen will win!

oh... the anticipation of BINGO email every morning with a riddle, joke, poem, or simple call. But, is it a call I put on my card? It sure makes it easier to rise out of bed on chilly mornings.

Let the fun begin!

Thank you, Dawnkey, for organizing BINGO once again!

Hot off the press!! I don't know the closure date yet, but if you are heading west on I-70 from Ohio you may want to snag the letterbox soon. There will be a lot of interstate destruction this year as additional lanes are being added.

Read about it here.

And for the sophomores, more breaking news ...

Wow, closed two years. That's going to be a hardship for truckers. I think the one on 1-70 at the Illinois line is worse.

They are in the process of constructing new rest areas on the NYS Thruway.

This a …..

$450 million program to modernize the 27 travel plazas on the New York State Thruway.”

They leave the gas pumps open but the buildings with food and bathrooms are closed. They are doing it in phases.

But then the next area from a closed one becomes extremely over crowded, especially on a holiday or weekend. I believe the trucks still have some areas to park in at the closed ones? Not sure. Or they make their own parking spaces.

And it’s over budget…..of course….and there have been complaints about the new ones that have reopened.

Leave it to New York to go big. They are putting all kinds of stuff in the new ones, different restaurants……etc, etc, etc. The list goes on.

Back in 2018, we stopped at the Missouri location. The weather turned wicked and I have a great photo of the water tower and the ominous weather. The captions reads "there's a storm brewing in U..." !

This still gets giggles!

We used to regularly stop at the rest area on westbound I-64 just past Louisville and New Albany. It has been closed permanently for several years now as even the paved ramps have been dug up. Guess Indiana doesn't want to welcome people in that area??

For those of you who are not playing GLLB Bingo this year, there's a video I didn't want you to miss. Today is Guest Host Friday in our little game, and Wassa was the Guest Host.

He did another amazing creative reveal!
