It blew up the night he made it. He put it in the 5 gal carboy instead of the 6 gal pail, and when it started to expand it popped the stopper right off. The man cave smelled like red ale for weeks. He still has a Porter kit to use. I bought it for him the equipment 4 years ago, still no homebrew.

He needs to stop complaining about the sewing machine that he bought me for xmas 5 years ago, that's still in the box.

Oh, that would do it. A 5-gal carboy is perfect for secondary and tertiary fermentation, but not for primary :) One thing that he could have done, and can do in the future if it happens again (some brews have strong fermentations), is to put a sanitized tube from the stopper and into a bucket of water. The excess gas and foam will bubble into the bucket and not onto the floor and the water will work as an airlock. Some people say to use water with bleach or sanitizer in it, but I don't like putting that stuff near the brew incase there's a reverse syphon.

August camping event in Maine

Sorry, we don't camp. We are too freakin old for that. Soft cushy beds, heat or A/C, Denny's next door. That's roughing it for us. We like to travel around Halloween (our anniversary) and Maine is near the top of our list for 2014 weather permitting. I've heard Maine is the home brew capital of the country - I'm not too old for sampling some of that. I also saw Mud's cranberry preserves posted a couple weeks ago which sounds so yummy.

Hubby made apple cider one time and it was lethal. Best to age for at least one year and then WATCH OUT, it was curtains for me, shower curtains, lol.

Last year for spring break, my two best friends and I traveled a crossed country by Amtrak Train to the state of Oregon. We rented a car and off we went to explore our new state. When we arrived in Eugene, OR we had already seen so much... Mt Hood, An Indian Reservation, Volcanic Rock, Crater Lake, Medford, REI, and much much more... so we decided to take a day to go wine and beer tasting. At the end of the day I had decided that I love Fat Tire Beer! It is a beer with a bicycle on the front and on its cap. It's red in color. They have several ales. But my favorite was the original, amber ale. Every chance I got I bought Fat Tire.

So when we arrived back home in Ohio, naturally I went to the store to buy Fat Tire to share with all my friends, but I couldn't find it. I was so disappointed.

But guess what?!??!?! Fat Tire finally arrived in Ohio!! I am so excited!!

So now that it is getting warmer out and you are going to be having pot lucks, BBQ, and picnics; I encourage you to try some Fat Tire... you won't be disappointed.

You convinced me! I've been looking at the Fat Tire displays for several months and have yet to try it and several others that look promising. Next time I'm at the package store, Fat Tire will accompany me home.

Today I went to Kroger to go grocery shopping and low and behold they had Fat Tire Beer on display!!! Fat Tire had more types of beer for you to try as well. So I grabbed their Snapshot Wheat Beer. Not much of a wheat beer fan but I liked this beer a lot. So go check it out!! =]

Actually, it would be New Belgium that had more types to try. Very good beers, 1554 is one of Schizokeet's favorites.

I just went to the bottle bar today and picked up some, "Sweet Baby Jesus" beer that is supposed to taste like peanut butter and chocolate. You can definitely smell the two flavors but they aren't too strong to the taste. We also got another beer by the same company that totally tasted like coconut. That one was good to try as a novelty but the Sweet Baby Jesus, I would definitely buy again.

My little town got a new pizza place recently that is making their own brew. Was so stoked to find out that they fill growlers!! I got my husband a couple for Christmas with no real reason but maybe home brewing. Yay!!

Good to hear a review. I have that one sitting in the fridge, I'm sitting on it until Easter as Schizokeet gave up beer for lent.

Some bars might agree to have an indoor box ....
Some boxes would survive longer if the bar was the starting point and the box was placed outside ...
