Going Soon

Hi,

I am originally from Nova Scotia and live in CT now. I go back every year to see my family. We will be there later this month and I am planning to find the Hostel box, Royal Halifax and Westray. I will let you know how they are. We usually get to Cape Breton but are not planning to go this time. If this changes I will try some of the island boxes and let you know what I find. I am planning to plant 2 or 3. Should be on the new trail betwen Sackville and Bedford and maybe in Point Pleasant Park. Does anybody know if boxes are/are not allowed in that park? I thought about Public Gardens too. It's a grogeous spot but I think it's too public. There are not a lot of good hiding spots in the Gardens.

If anybody has any specific requests before I go, please let me know.

Look out because here we come.

Yep, thanks to a local radio station and our luck, we won a weekend from Portland, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

We would love to meet up with some boxers that may be in the area. It will be the weekend of Aug 24 to 26th. We'll be staying at The Robb Grand Hotel and plan on doing some boxing.

Any and all input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I'll be planting three in Halifax just before you get there, but we will have begun the 24 hour drive home before you arrive.

Have a wonderful time!

We just got back from Nova Scotia. I got the one at the Hostel but couldn't find Royal Halifax, Along the Ridge or Molly's Pockwock Walk. I planted in Point Pleasant Park (MIdstate) and Lower Sackville (Where's the Kaboom). I found Beaver Mountain in Antigonish and Westray in New Glasgow. I couldn't find Jacob's Ladder or The North Novas in Truro. We didn't get to Cape Breton or Yarmouth. We did go to PEI and found Winery but couldn't find Parliament, Charlottetown Celebrates or Spud Island. Friends of ours found Panorama park.

We also found Irving Nature Park in Saint John, New Brunswick. That's a beautiful place if anyone gets the chance to go there.

My mom and her friend just started letterboxing. They found the Hostel and the 2 I just planted. They are waiting for more. Let me know if you plant any any and I'll tell them. I won't be back till next summer but my dad will check my boxes for me.

Thanks Fiddleheads, we'll be sure to check out your clues. We are attempting to find a economical car to rent so we can box the country.

Hi!

We have just recently discovered this hobby and are really excited about it.

I do have a question: Where can you get supplies to make your own stamp in Halifax? I'm having a hard time, but then I might be looking in the wrong places...

Try Michaels Arts and Crafts store. The stampmaking supplies are usually not with the rubber stamps and ink pads. They are usually beside the calligraphy and print blockmaking supplies. Hope that helps.

Where can you get supplies to make your own stamp in Halifax?

I did a google search for art stores in Halifax. There's a Loomis Art Store at:

1546 Barrington St
Halifax, NS B3J 3X7 Canada

They have block printing supplies which includes lino cutters and handles. I can't tell if they carry carving material, you'd probably have to call the store to ask.

Store locator: http://216.139.219.73/SITES/loomis/index.asp?C=9&DB=011_omer_loomis&M=38&L=E
Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies!

I ended up letting my kids pick out stamps because they are eager to get started. I'm going by Loomis today so I'll pick up supplies to make our own and we'll evolve our signatures as we go.

Going to try today for our 1st box, wish us luck!

Good luck! We remember our first find back in September (07) while on vacation in Alaska. We were REALLY excited -- and after more than 100 finds, we still get EXCITED!

My son got so excited when we found the box he did not know what to do!!! He stamped his carefully chosen stamp in the book, helped his sister do hers, watched me do mine, then tried to pack it all away and re-hide it before we had stamped our logbook! It was pretty funny. He ran the whole way to the landmark!
Now he's all excited to make some stamps so we can hide our own boxes...I think he's hooked!

very new to letterboxing, is there any locals out there or is it basically tourists that seem to be planting boxes.

I was in Halifax last week visiting my family and, of course, I looked for letterboxes in the area. I noticed there are no letterboxes at Public Gardens, which seems like an obvious place to plant. Is it because there's a park rule against letterboxing, or no one's found a hiding place free from muggles, or has no one tried yet?

Just checking out these boards and seen your post from a few years back. I was just at the gardens last month. Beautiful. My guess besides the obvious that there’s no boxers in the area, is that it is so well manicured. A plant probably would not last long. I left one at the Old Cemetery. Just waiting for a traveling boxer to find it.
