I am traveling to Ireland this week and would like some recommendations for boxes to obtain while I am there.

Wow! I didn't realize that Ireland had so many boxes that one can be picky about which ones to choose to look for. =) When I was last there, you pretty much had to look for whatever was available--you didn't have a whole lot of options!

-- Ryan

PS. My plants are the best. ;o) Unless something was planted after I was there--then those might be better.....

An Irish Camelot and The Pirate Queen are my two favorite plants there. Though Grumpy Grinch's near the Cliffs of Mohr is in a lovely spot too.

Have loads of fun and try, if ye be a drinker, Bulmers and Strongbow. My favorite, even in America.

Hey all, just checking in on this board and decided to see if anyone had been around to look at the Fiddler of Dooney. (A great carve, BTW.) I visited in August of 2007 and left a HH there. I wondered if anyone had possibly visited and picked it up, but not logged it in? I need to change its destination as the box it was aimed for has been long retired.

Thanks!

What counties are you visiting?

Hi,
So far we have been to Sweden, Finland and UK (London) and we live in Denmark so we are exploring it daily. :o)

In August, we may squeeze in France or Norway before our kids go back to school. In October there is a break for the kids and we have tickets to visit Ireland. So excited about that!!

Our current landlord owns a home in Italy and has offered it to us for this July for 2 weeks but we will be in the US visiting family on our home leave. We are hoping to go to Italy next summer.

Germany, Russia, Spain and Egypt are all on our list to see as well as Japan. One of my friends is moving there soon and we are going to go visit :o)

It is wonderful to be able to see all of these beautiful countries and to have our children with us as well. They will always remember the experiences :o)

Are any letterboxers still posting to this site? I am planning a trip to your beautiful country in 2014 and would like to find some letterboxers in the areas I plan to visit.

Just let me know if this is still an active message board. Thanks Sky Blue Dragon

Just waking this board up to say we are now back here living in Ireland. Are there any other Irish resident letterboxers out there? I fear we are the only ones, but we are busy planting regardless. Fortunately we do have a few to find, thanks to the American holiday visitors who leave a box behind them.

It has been great to see all the visitors to our own boxes that we have previously planted on our holidays here, but now that we are back home again we are going to be able to maintain them properly alongside the new ones we are putting out :-)

Hi there Skerries Duo,
What part of Ireland are you from? I left a few letterboxes behind on a trip to Dublin. My family and I were living in Denmark for a few years and had the opportunity to visit your lovely country. Unfortunately, I think I was the only letterboxer in Denmark. I planted anyways, and continued to search for boxes whenever in a country that had some :) Sadly, our time overseas was up in September and we returned home to the United States, North Carolina.

I hope you have luck finding the boxes I left behind.

Now that is exciting news, Drogheda is only about half an hour away from us so they should have a few to find on this side of the country when they get here :-)

We saw that you had visited some of our Skerries boxes several years ago. A lot of the American visitors fly into Shannon airport on the other side of the country which is why a lot of the letterboxes here are on the other side of the country. I know you used to fly into Dublin from time to time as it was part of your job, are you still flying around the world?

Yes Turtlelove, we have your Dublin boxes on our list and are looking forward to finding them next time we go into Dublin. We live on the East Coast, not too far from Dublin so it shouldn't be too long before we go there.

Thanks Trekkie Gal, you weren't to know but The Yorkshire Tortoise is the other half of this Duo. It is a name we use when we letterbox together, Skerries Duo does get to find her Irish tortoise boxes though :-)

Wow, I have just found the 'edit post' button, just shows how long it is since I last posted on AQ!

Hello Old Friend :-)

Yes, I have been lurking lately, and now posting as I have really got back into AQ again. It is greater than ever and yet just as easy to navigate around as before.

Now that I live in Ireland, with not so many letterboxes, AQ is coming into its own again as a way for me to keep in touch with everything letterboxing. Also I am older, healthy but not so able to go hiking distances in search of letterboxes anymore so AQ is helping me to keep in touch with a hobby which as you know I have been doing my whole life.

It is great to follow all your adventures on your long walk blog - another wonderful way for me to hike virtually :-)

Now, "The Yorkshire Tortoise" is a name I recognize!! Both turtle lovers, you and I :) I have been around since 2007, not my whole life like you, but certainly have enjoyed Atlas Quest and most things letterboxing. Too bad we didn't get to meet up while I was there...

Well I am sorry to see I was correct, we seem to be the only Resident Irish letterboxers. Amanda's friend looks hopeful for the future though.

No doubt I will get to meet any buddy that visits The Yorkshire Tortoise, the BB's always seem to want to exchange personal travellers :-)

Looking for letterbox hybrids from goecaching-website there seems to be some though, so maybe some local geocachers would be easy to lure into this hobby?

(Edit - nevermind - I tend to be avid armchair-traveller browsing AQ-clues and geocaching-maps, but not much aware of real current situations.)

Meeting up would be great if you ever come here. There are some good hiking trails in various parts of Ireland. The Wicklow Mountains are fabulous. There is more moorland than where you are currently hiking (at least judging by your photos), but some equally stunning views in places.

Hi, All,

I'll be doing a town to town hike from Rathrdrum to Glenmalure to Laragh to Roundwood to Enniskerry to Dublin Town at the end of October. Unfortunately, I probably won't make it up to Skerries, as it looks like there's a few up there. It would be wonderful to meet a letterboxer or two and find (and plant) a couple of boxes.

Thank you!
