Having Letterboxing Withdrawals....

I am done with winter and ready for spring! There's just too much snow out there to box and supposedly more to come this week. I'm all for winter boxing but some of this snow needs to melt first! How long til spring? I'm having bad letterboxing withdrawals!

I hear you - I have Monday off, and thinking about planning a day of drive-bys; it will hopefully take me through some pretty countryside, and although I won't be outside, it will at least scratch my itch to do some letterboxing.

Find some popular trails where people will have been out snowshoeing/skiing, packing the snow down, then go out with snowshoes. I did that today and it really wasn't bad: http://sheltontrails.blogspot.com/2011/01/snow-at-shelton-lakes.html

I'm going to a mid-winter mini meet tomorrow and it's my first winter event. I'm also going to try and find a few LB's. Hopefully I'll find some. Otherwise, I'll be pouting and waiting for spring too.

OMG will it ever end???????? More this week! I haven't boxed since January 1st and even if I could, would NOT be able to find anything under all this snow!

Oh ye of little faith...I planted a snow box yesterday in a cave with no snow in it. Plowed parking, trail packed by snowshowers and skiiers. Snowshoes helpful. By the way, someone told me today they saw cheap snowshoes at Ocean State recently, and they picked up a pair at the LL Bean outlet in Milford. I am sooo happy I bought my snowshoes this year!

I was thinking of running over to Ocen State tomorrow (it's real close buy) as I know I saw them there in Dec. I'd have to buy 5 pairs, but I think the kids would like them.

LOL - under my porch is fine, I don't think the neighbor would like it again though.

I was up in Ithaca NY for my daughter, I was able to sneak away about 45 minutes to find the box on the campus. The moment of truth came, I think it's behind that tree, can I make it down the hill in the snow and hope not to hit solid ice digging for the letterbox? Well, 5 hrs driving time to a box is a new personal record.

Good luck finding them. I think most of them are gone by now. We saw them advertised two years ago, but we found out too late and they were all gone. So when they had them again this year 2010, we got them in November when there were lots of them.
They work very well. But we find that the teeth on the bottom will wear out if you walk on the ground with them. I was looking at my DD's pair and it had some wear on them already because she didn't take them off when we were walking back from the trail on the pavement.
I'm wondering if they sell just the teeth parts incase these wear out.
You might want to check out how to use them properly. Just found out we were walking the wrong way with them on, so it was a bit tiring. Was supposed to break the trail with them, so whoever is first has a harder job doing that. And when you step, the inner side is suppose to overlap a bit. I think we were waddling in them, but hey, it's our first time with snowshoes. :-D

Just saw that Cabela's has a sell on snowshoes right now. Not as cheap as the ones in Ocean State Job Lot. Check their bargain cave on their website.

Better yet, a pair of skates.
It's treacherous out there. Be safe everyone, especially if you are on the road.
Me....I'm staying indoor. Brrrrr! This is a very long Winter!
Grabbing my ltc stuff for now!
