I make my own logbooks.......I have a coil binder and I use 4 X 6 index cards for the pages. I get creative with the covers.......since the pages are made of cardstock, I can stamp on both sides. We also print out a crisp new copy of the clue for each box that we find, attempt, and/or plant and keep these in a nice 3 ring notebook. On these clues we make notes about the hunt, the day, the weather, the plant, the attempt, etc----and add photos of the cool things we see. So the logbook is more of a place to collect those prized stamp images....and the notebook (which is left at home--we don't take it with us) is more of a LB diary. We enjoy having both.

I heart my Moleskine sketchbook. It's a little pricey, but the paper is nice and thick so you can stamp both pages. It also has a nifty pocket at the back for sticking clues and momentos.

I think the books you saw were the Moleskine cahiers, which have thin cardboardy covers. I use those for postal logbooks. The sketchbook I use for my regular logbook has a hard cover. Moleskine it the brandname for the collection of books.

They also carry the sketchbook I like at BN:

It's the large Moleskine sketchbook - I think it's approximately 8" by 5" - and I do use both sides.

I use the Moleskine too, as a permanent logbook. And do love it dearly as well! That little back pocket makes a nice storage area for the LTCs I've received!
I go boxing with temporary logbooks then cut and paste the images into the Moleskine later, adding all the pertinent info. (For this I am greatly ridiculed around these parts!) :o)
I figure, this is something I am going to cherish well into the future and I want the images that go in my logbook to be clear, unsmudged, fully printed, etc...

We use 4x6 index cards and a photo album. The album stays at home so we don't have to lug it around, and the cards have enough room to either write a note about the box or any mishaps getting there or a picture of us out boxing. Makes for a fun travel journal.

You may be horrified to see mine. I just use regular index cards and then I dump them in a shoebox. They are also often smudged or have dirty finger prints on them. That's an improvement over the original cheap lined notepad I had that I dropped in water.

I bought my logbook several years ago at Dollar Tree (I'm on my second one now). In fact, I picked up lots of them so I could use them in some of my bigger LBs. My logbook is also my personal journal. I love being able to see the stamp image, and read what I wrote about finding that stamp, who I was with, and anything interesting that happened before or after finding the LB. I always write the journal part when I get home. I enjoy reliving these experiences over again, by reading through my personal journal.

I use 4x6 index cards in a cheap photo album. It's not as fancy as others that I have seen, but it allows me to move pages around, include photos from the hunt, and throw away cards with bad stamp images and do them again. Not to mention water-resistant pages. Now I just take a stack of cards with me and leave the logbook at home. If my stamp image is no good, I just do another one (unless there is already another stamp on the page, of course). The cheap plastic photo albums can also be used like a view binder; remove the cover page it comes with and insert your own.

My daughter and I both use the small 3 ring binders. They hold a half sheet of 8 1/2 X 11 paper. Then we cut cardstock in half and punch three holes. I started with a sketch book, but love this so much better. We can add or take away pages and put them in differnet orders and keep events (event stamps, PTs etc) together.
the postals are in the back adn each ring is sperated with a colored plastic tab. The page that the tab is on has my stampfrom the ring on the page along with the date launched and the title. On the back of the page is the list of stamps from teh ring so I can check them off as I receive them and also the address of the person that I send to . Once the ring is complete, I take the section out and add it to a binder that I keep at home.
We also have a small binder with all clues. I print them and then shrink them to 64%. It's so much easier than keeping up with a full size notebook.
Now if only I could figure out how to make small pages to hold my LTCs, I'd be happy!

I have traded 100's of ATCs (like LTCs, but they don't require a stamped image)......anyway, we ATC traders store our collections in the 9-pocket vinyl pages that were originally created for traders of sport cards, esp baseball cards. Keep these pages in a 3 ring notebook.

Also, at Michaels you can buy a large frame meant for displaying baseball cards.....so you can put your favorite ATCs and/or LTCs in and display them on your wall. They are easily interchangeable, so every LTC can have its day in the sun :o)

I have the big pages that hold 9 cards, but my binders are only half that size. It holds a half of an 8 1/2X11 sheet. I would need a page that held like maybe 4 cards, but that would fill up my binder really fast, so I'll probably just stick with the regular binder. I started usin the little card books sold at Toys R Us that has 4 to a page, but you can'[t add pages and they fill up too quickly.

we usually go boxing as a family, but only me and my daughter have our own books. I started out with only one, but she decided she wanted her own (why? I have no idea becuase I end up doing the stmaps for her while she goes running and playing!) And we do take the binders with us becuase it's easier for me to keep up with them by keeping everything we need in a backpack. We don't really do alot of boxing through the woods or in the rain etc. right now because my little one is only 5 1/2 months. We might do our logbooks differently when we start boxing in places that our books could get messed up. She had a sketch book as her first book and it is filled up, so we do leave that one at home. I started out with one for postals, one for traditional, one for exchanges/events/PTs etc, but that got old quickly and the one is much easier!!!

Oh, the only place I can find this small size binder is at Walmart. They come in blue, red and black and are around $2.40 cents.

I got one of those. I put the 4x6 index cards in them. I stamp my own stamps in it, and put the info about the box/planting/etc. underneath the image. This is a great way to keep track of my own carvings. And it's easy to show to my friends.

A large 9" X 12" spiral bound art sketch pad from Michael's.

You can open it flat, even folded open and back, for stamping on your knee or the ground. I keep it in a large ziplock in my backpack to protect it from water. Because it is art paper it takes the image well.
You can stamp on both sides, though I do not.

I am envious when I see other's similar large logbooks that look very impressive with stamps over two open pages and neat lettering under each. My handwriting is not that neat, and I like to write more notes.

Unfortunatly the price is the same as the size, about $9-$12. Actually I am not sure of the actual size but it is about the size of a standard sheet of printer paper.

After my first 100 stamps, in several 4x6 pads, I needed more space. I now have 5 or 6 of these logbooks, full.

My first log book was a small sketch book.

But now I love my 9 x 12.
I can get a whole series on one page. and it looks great!

And an artist, wandering through the woods with a big sketch book...looks less supicious

I like to use the sketch books with the wire binding so that I can keep it open all the way.

For kids, I found that the 3 x 5 wire bound cards from Wal-Mart were a good purchase at about $1. It allowed a spot for my kids to stamp on a blank area and then have the lined card to write about the stamp. (FYI - the neon colored cards have too much color and don't accept ink very well.) Some of the covers of these are really pretty. They're also quite small and easy for kids to use.

I found great small journals with unlined paper at Joann's Fabrics for $1 each! They have made adorable logbooks! I wish I had bought more...I get nervous I won't be able to find them again!

I do weird things in the logbook department. I stamp a stamp 2, 3, 4 times then when I get home I put them in my Main logbook. Which I designed and ordered from Cafe Press. It has our personal stamps on the front and it says "Our Letterboxing Journal"

Then I also have the photo books of vacations that envolved letterboxing. We did a "Men vs Women" letterbox trip with some of our friends once. (for those who must know the Men won) anyway the photo book is a treasure to me. But I leave all of these at home so they won't get lost or stepped on.
I just cut and glue the stamp into my main book. The reason I stamp so many, is you may find my stamp in my photobook also. That way if a stamp does not stamp clear. I have the chance to restamp and put the better one in my main book.

We started with small 4x6 sketchbooks. When those were filled up, I removed the pages and put each person's stamps into a small photo album.

We now use hand-made (codex) log books. I made each of us one with a cover that matches our sig stamps in some way (ex: my littlest one, HorseLover, has horses on the cover of her log). Ours are approx 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 (the size of a normal sheet of paper folded in half). The pages are made of white cardstock, which is perfect for stamping on both sides.
Oh! and each one has a ribbon in the binding so that we can mark the page that were on.

The moleskine books are nice, too. I bought a small 3 pack for planting and postals. Very nice quality. I even cut them in half and got 6 books for the price of 3!
