Hello friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I share some very sad news. One of our twin cats, sweet Neo, has passed away. He started feeling lethargic last Friday afternoon. We kept an eye on him throughout the weekend but he never perked back up, instead choosing to stay mostly by himself. By the time we got him to the vet on Monday morning he was obviously sick.

His red blood cell count should have been around 10, it was 1. Even though all of his internal organs were fine, his body had stopped producing red blood cells. He stopped eating and drinking. For the rest of the day Monday, we tried to get him to eat and gave him water with a dropper. By Monday night he could barely stand. He passed Tuesday morning a little over a year old. We still don’t know the cause.

He was a wonderful, bright soul bringing joy to all who met him. He never cried or complained. He was a perfect beautiful kitten. Though we love all of our animals, we jokingly called Neo “the good son”. He had a special relationship with the hummingbirds in our backyard. We put up a new feeder there as a memorial to him and the joy he brought to us watching him play.

I guess it’s true, the good die young. Good night sweet prince… you will be missed.

Being the animal lover that I am, I am so sorry to read of your loss. It is never easy to lose a fur baby no matter the age. You will always carry a piece of them in your hearts.

There's an AQ group that I've seen in the past, who sends special condolances/LTCs(?) when someone loses a beloved pet. I hope they see this message (I can't remember which Board or what activates their wishes). I have lost many beloved dogs over my years, and I understand the heartbreak. I hope your happy memories of your sweet kitty carry you through. (((((HUGS)))))

Pets are family. I know I'd be lost without my girls.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a beloved pet is so painful. I sometimes think about cats I had 30 years ago.

My thoughts and prayers are with you - it's hard losing a beloved pet. Our sweet little cat, also named Neo, passed away earlier this year. She was 17 years old. I miss her very much .

The timing makes it doubly sad in a way, the first email we got after Neo died was someone commenting on our cute twins. But I'm glad we got to share them regardless. He brought joy and happiness to our lives and left us with many good memories.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is not only heartbreaking but its difficult to understand why such a young good Kitty goes so early. Your Neo was very beautiful. Thank you for sharing your stories and your photos.

I lost my little Rowan earlier this year under very similar circumstances. She was a year and a 1/2 and her blood count continued to drop. I would have had to spend several $1000 on blood transfusions and a bone marrow biopsy to confirm it however the vet thought she had leukemia within her bone marrow.

Our Fur babies are our family and are dearly missed when they are gone. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

Wise Wanderer....you are correct. The LTC tracker, The Rainbow Bridge is still active.

It is a group of letter boxers that understand the love and loss of our pets. Ltcs are donated And then held until they can be shared to remind other letter boxers that they are not alone in their loss and their love for their fur baby.
I will be sure to send the set to the family in memory of their dear sweet Neo.

Your loss made me so sad, all of our fur-babies, regardless of species are family through and through. The fact that your boy was a ginger is especially difficult.....we "specialize" in orange kitties of all makes and sizes so the only comfort I can give you is to know that he is out of pain and I TRULY believe you WILL see him again!

I am so sorry. Our fur babies are so important and to go through this is heartbreaking. Many hugs to you. I lost my boy Reilly 6 years ago and it certainly isn't easy. I'm so sorry that you're feeling and experiencing this loss.

I feel for you so much! I lost my sweet cat Bo a couple of weeks ago(He was always with me and my pup.) I know exactly what you're going through. We weren't sure what happened to Bo.. He was fine one night and the next, he wasn't.. honestly it sounds a lot like what you described with your boy Neo.

I am so sorry for your loss! It feels like losing a kid sometimes when our pets pass. We too, lost a pet just this morning :( My daughter woke up to find her pet rat, Despereaux, not moving. He was originally snake food, but her snake didn't eat him. He was only a few days old, so we bought kitten milk and she bottle fed him and made him go potty and even woke up in the middle of the night for all this. He was so sweet and such a good boy. It breaks my heart for her since she had that neat bond with him. I feel for you too, since this was sudden. Losing a pet is never easy, young or old. My thought are with you!!

I’m sooooo soooooo sorry .... it’s never easy

SWMBO and I had a cat for 12 years before it caught something, suffered for nearly a month with the vet being unable to do anything about it, and died. The pain was such that we haven't gotten another cat. It's as though 12 years of companionship and love isn't worth the month of heart-wrenching agony. My brother was killed in Vietnam, all five of my parents have passed away, the Best Man at my wedding died of non-Hodgekin's lymphoma, and my best friend committed suicide after suffering with pulmonary fibrosis for a year -- and I cried the most over that cat.
