Summer maintenance woes

Boo! Doing maintenance on my local boxes and thus far I'm 1:3.

1. One was lost to possible flooding. I realize now I should have tethered the cache in some way to avoid it having it's own adventure.
2. I'm 99.999% sure another Lbx was lifted by a Geocacher as a cache is right on top of my location (which is a great location!)
3. One carve has been taken out of retirement & relocated with hopes it's not nox'd... AGAIN. It's one of my earlier letterboxes & did my best to stay true to the original stamp.

My hitchhikers are having grand travels! My 'Breaking Bad' HH'er has visited some fitting Lbx's! Walter White/Heisenberg was first apprehended in Mayberry by Sherriff Andy Taylor, attended classes with Professor Severus Snape & now rumor has it he's hanging with John Dillinger!
Y'all are having some fun with this & I love it!

Once the weather improves, I have four more boxes to visit. Fingers are crossed that all is well with them.

I think your definition of a "great" location is a little different than my definition of a "great" location. ;o)

-- Ryan, who thinks a great location is well away from other geocaches!

As a geocacher (and letterboxer), I agree that this should determine who gets the location. This is why I think that you need a local geocacher to try to see what has happened, and possibly get the geocacher to move the cache and to give back your letterbox (if that is what actually happened).

I've personally convinced a geocacher to move a cache because the letterbox had the spot first. I know of another geocache that was moved because the letterbox was there first. Perhaps we have more accommodating geocachers here, but it does help to have a local advocate in the geocaching community to help with relations.

Maybe you know geocachers in the area, because you are in the hobby. If so, this is a great idea. But I wouldn't know any. It isn't so easy to get to know cachers. They might just think I was stalking them...or very nosy...or just there to complain, which would be true. I am not proficient at using their site.

I don't know where to go from here. There may be someone in your area who is also geocacher and is reading this thread. There is nothing that will substitute for being in the local community. Even if they are within 100 miles they could help. That's the best I can do from nearly the other side of the country.

GG's open patented planting method:
scope out the area
find a place screaming out for a box
DO NOT plant there
use that place as a locater for your clue (unless you're Eevil)
from there, look for a place not conducive to off trail micturition, defecation, habitation, or geocaching location

it also helps to have a geocache already in the area since they have a hard and fast rule about planting too close to another cache.

I had the final box and logbook for a road trip series go missing. It was bad enough that a geocache had taken over the spot. But they LITERALLY TOOK MY LOCK N LOCK for it. Needless to say the physical box came home with me that day.

There was a summer I swear I had half of my boxes noxed and by the same casher. I had a nice collection of little plastic lizards I found in over a dozen boxes I had checked on. I just recently this year used them as 1st finders prizes and now I am using my Pirates collectable card game ships.
