Firm Kut Grade B - Separation

I was carving tonight and I had something strange happen with Firm Kut Grade B. It has happened before, but I didn't think to post about it before.

I was carving a curved area, varying between 1/2 cm and 1 cm wide of a cut. It was too far apart of a cut to make a "V" that met at the bottom (without going all of the way through) so I cut down and I was going to carve horizontally, sort of a slanted "U"; the sides of the "U" were slanted like a "V", but the bottom was going to be flat. However, about 2/3 of the way down the Firm Kut separated for me. It was a nice, level area about where I was going to make the cut myself but much smoother. It is like there was already a layer of Firm Kut that hadn't quite bonded.

It doesn't seem to separate at this level anywhere else, just where I wanted it to separate anyway.

Has this happened to anyone else?
