This weekend I sat down with my begrudgingly 13-year-old to watch a movie I had recently learned about called “Grabbers.”

So, first impression. Name kinda isn’t the greatest. But it sticks with you. And some of the posters are a bit cheesy. So, yeah, there’s that . . .

I happened upon this movie because of Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot. A sudden fan, I have been watching the series. I recognized a young Russell Tovey, a British actor, in one of the episodes and remembered him from Sherlock Holmes. As I was poking around IMDb, I saw that he was in this movie.

Breezed over the description and thought I would give it a go.

The movie begins with a few fisher men doing some night fishing when they see “something” fall into the ocean. They are soon overtaken and it cuts to a young female Guarda getting off a ferry on Erin Island the next morning. She has been assigned to the position temporarily because the sgt. on the island is taking a vacation. She and the other island alcoholic and resentful Guarda immediately dislike each other and the story takes off from there.

Kitty Paws Ratings

Two kitty paws because the movie is actually good.
One kitty paw because it’s funny, and NOT in a cheesy sort of way.
One kitty paw because there are no adult related activities
One Kitty paw because there is no blood or gore.

But I would have liked a little more time with the two guards and some of the characters in the movie prior to the arrival of the Grabbers. Like, gotten to know them better. So, I take away one kitty paw.

There is cussing. But it’s foreign country cussing, so there’s that.

Further it should be noted that the begrudgingly 13-year-old did actually enjoy it too. He begrudgingly admitted to it, though.

So, if you are interested in a movie that is decent, fun and you can enjoy with your 13 year old, then consider this your next movie.
