can't miss activities near Zoar, OH

So, my family have decided to hitch a ride with me to Ohio. I will be at the LTC retreat. They will be on their own for a few days. Anyone know of any fun things that they should do while they are there? They are going because they "have run out of things to do in NY".

Activities should appeal to two 9 year olds and a 38 year old. :D

Atwood Lake Park (http://atwoodpark.mwcd.org/) is not too far from Zoar. It has hiking trails, a beach with inflatable water play structures, and boat rentals. *cough*letterboxes*cough*

In Dover, I liked going to the Warther Museum as a kid: http://thewarthermuseum.com/.

A little farther, in Sugarcreek, they can see the "World's Largest Cuckcoo Clock." http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/11894

If your family likes football, there is the Football Hall of Fame in Canton: http://www.profootballhof.com

That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now, but I'm sure there is a lot of great stuff nearby.

Awesome! That's a great start. Thanks!

The world's largest Cuckoo clock is calling my name. I think we are going to check out the World's largest teapot on the way home too. There is a letterbox AND I can check of West Virginia on my map. :) It's only an hour out of the way.

Maybe the World's Largest Cuckoo Clock needs a box too....hint hint.

If they are willing to take a ride, Cedar Point is a pretty big Roller Coaster Park, near Sandusky....ad in Cleveland, there is the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the "Christmas Story" House!

If my husband comes along to "drop us off", he will just be galavanting around all the counties in Ohio, taking photos of all the barns that have their bicentenial logos painted on them....there is one in every county. He already has over 30 of them...Not much excitement there for your kids, but it keeps Photomaniac happy! LOL

Ooh, I wonder if I'll be able to see the cuckoo clock on my way from Illinois or if it's on the other side. I'll have to check that out--I love roadside attraction photo stops.

Any place in middle-of-nowhere Ohio can be "on the way" to another place in middle-of-nowhere Ohio. Just sayin'.
Sugarcreek is southwest of Zoar, so it could be on the way depending on how you get to Zoar.

More ideas from my mom: Schoenbrunn Village, a village founded in 1772 as a Moravian mission among the Delaware Indians, in New Philadelphia. The first settlement, church, schoolhouse, and code of laws in Ohio.

Tuscora Park in New Philadelphia has pools, amusement rides, and mini golf. http://www.newphilaoh.com/tuscora_park/

Magnolia Flouring Mills, in Magnolia. Mom says it has a little museum. I also recommend also stopping at Taggart's Ice Cream Parlor and Restaurant while in Magnolia.

The Wilderness Center in Wilmont looks interesting. In addition to normal daytime activities, they have a planetarium program followed by observing through telescopes (weather permitting) on the first Friday evening of the month. It looks like the first Friday in August they have a special program about the upcoming eclipse. https://www.wildernesscenter.org

It USED to be in Wilmot, with a really cool restauarant, Alpine-Alpa, when I was a kid. Now you have to go to Sugarcreek to see the Cuckoo clock.

I am new to letterboxing and I read your post that you are attending an event near Zoar? Would you mind sharing this information with me about where and when?
Thank you

At this time, the event is full. The event focuses on, but not limited too, crafting letterbox trading cards.

From Atlasquest's Glossary: Letterbox Trading Card (LTC). An offshoot of Artist Trading Cards (ATC), which itself is an offshoot of traditional trading cards such as baseball cards. Standard LTCs are 2.5"x3.5", or 64x89mm, with a base that has the thickness and consistency of card stock, and use stamped images as part of the requirement. Most LTCs typically incorporate the creator's signature stamp in some way. More information can be found in the help pages in the Letterboxer Trading Cards category.

At the retreat, we spend most of our time crafting LTCs, sharing techniques, learning about media to create cards, carving stamp techniques and more!

If you like scrapbooking, carving, card making or more, I'd highly recommend checking out the Atlasquest letterbox trading card resources.

Yep. What Frog said.

If you are interested in some LTC samples to get an idea of what they are, let me know. I just need a name and address to send them to. :)
