Saw the HH's guide to the Galaxy movie

I thought since were discussing books made into movies, that I'd share my thoughts on this one. Bear with me.

If anyone has read the HH series, you know how brilliantly mad Douglas Adams was. I don't feel that it came through in the movie. The problem, I think, is that the plot is so out there that they had to spend the whole movie getting the point across. That left little room for the funny bits. You got reminders of the funniest parts of the book, but it was like hearing all the punch lines to a comedy act without hearing the whole joke. You knew in the theater who had read the book because they were the only ones laughing.

Anyone who has read the book will want to see the movie, but I do highly recomend reading the book before seeing it. I also wanted to say that the audio version (unabridged and read by the author) is awsome.

I have yet to see the movie, so I will let you know what I think when I do. I just wanted to second your assertion that the book on tape is beyond brilliant. That is the approximate meaning of awesome, right?

I've been a Douglas Adams fan for YEARS, so when a friend suggested we go see the film this weekend, I jumped at the chance.

I felt rather out of place when I burst out laughing several times. Clearly, there weren't many readers in the theatre. Also the dismal New England weather may have had something to do with it.

After I got over myself already, I just sat back and had fun.

My friend, who never once read Adams, who went strictly for the hype, commented "it was rather like Monty Python meets Star Trek..."

And I doubled over with laughter one more time.
