"Is there a primer"
In the app on the bottom right of the screen tap settings - then tap help and support, this will take you to the website - I've found it very useful for finding information on how to do things.

I am guessing that you are messing up the password. I have been doing LbNA searches in Clue Tracker for the past week with no problems. You should be able to search without logging in but then Clue Tracker won't know which boxes you have already found nor will it be able to help you record a find. Let me know if you have any questions.

If you have a bigger screen / computer, you can read the Clue Tracker FAQ here:
http://cluetracker.pearlcrescent.com/faq/
It has screen shots that explain what everything is / how to do some things.

Glad to hear it is working for you!

I recommend saving any boxes you might want to look for just in case either site has a hiccup or you lose cell phone / Internet signal.

I hope you have a great weekend letterboxing!

2 questions
is there a way to ignore boxes that come up and you aren't going to seek for some reason or another

when i saved 3 boxes last night, it created folders rather than letting me save to folders. the names it gave the folders made no sense.

a box from yakima and one from richland (80 miles apart) both are in a folder called alderdale which is near neither location. Another one from yakima was put in a folder called union gap. which is closer but still not what was listed in the box location. is there a way to designate the folders you want.

You can change the name - when your are on the list of saved - tap edit in top right corner, then tap on the line you want to edit (not the red) and it pops up a window to rename.

If you are logged into Atlas Quest within Clue Tracker, then boxes that you ignore on Atlas Quest will not be returned when you search for nearby boxes or based on a location (Clue Tracker does not provide a way to ignore boxes just within the app).

when i saved 3 boxes last night, it created folders rather than letting me save to folders. the names it gave the folders made no sense.

For AQ boxes, the default tag (aka folder name) that is assigned when you save a box is based on the search criteria that you used (location or box name), or the location of the first box if you did a nearby search. It is probably better to use the clipboard icon when saving boxes, since you will be prompted to choose the tag(s) that you want to use (and you can also choose to create a new tag).

We are looking for a few people to test the newest version of Clue Tracker (under development). You can play with it at home or in the woods. The new features include record find improvements, improved layout of some screens, and sharing clues across devices.

Please send me a message if you have a device running iOS 8 or 9 and would like to help us out.

TrailMark and I are pleased to announce that the new version of Clue Tracker is now available! Here is what's new:

  • Added a sharing feature to allow a list of boxes to be copied from one device to another. To use this feature, choose "Share This List..." from the backpack menu. Lists may be shared via email, Dropbox, and other methods; when opened in another copy of Clue Tracker, the app will offer to import the boxes.
  • Improved the layout of the search screens.
  • Added a new search option "Hide My Attempts."
  • For LbNA, show the logged in trailname (instead of email address) on the search and record find screens.
  • Added a "Record Find" button to the end of the clues.
  • Improved the record find screen by placing the date picker and rating inline.
  • When recording an LbNA find, you may provide a public comment (and only a comment if you like).
  • Improved compatibility with the new LbNA website.
  • Other small fixes and improvements.

We also updated the FAQ to explain new icons and to mention the new sharing feature:
http://cluetracker.pearlcrescent.com/faq/

As always, your comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Hi. We are getting ready to release an update to Clue Tracker and are looking for some people to add to our group of beta testers. Please contact me (MichKathy) via AQ mail or send email to support@pearlcrescent.com if you are willing to help.

You need to have an iPhone, iPad, and/or iPod touch that is running iOS 8 or 9, and you need to be willing use a test version of Clue Tracker over the next few weeks and give us feedback.

Here are some of the features that are coming soon:
  • Advanced search for both AQ and LbNA (including search by owner, clues text, and much more).
  • Hike distance is retrieved and displayed for LbNA boxes.
  • From a map view, you can open the displayed boxes in the Apple Maps app.
  • When recording LbNA finds, you will be able to assign a rating to the box.
  • Improved compatibility with iPad Pro and iOS 9.

Thanks!

Is there a way to make clue notes once you have downloaded a clue to Clue Tracker? I know if I add the notes on AQ and then download to Clue Tracker, my notes will show up, but I am wondering if there is a way to add to make additional notes on the clue once it is in Clue Tracker? Thanks!

way to add to make additional notes on the clue once in Clue Tracker?

When looking at a clue there is an edit option near the top right (beside camera icon) when you tap that -notes is an option under the location. Hope that helps.

Just a quick note: if you edit clues locally on your device, they won't show up on the server / Atlas Quest (at least not currently). They won't appear on other devices unless you export/import it.

If you make changes to your notes on AQ, use the refresh icon (circle with an arrow) to reload it from the server and get the updated notes.

Oh, one more thing: if you have local notes and AQ notes, you'll only see your local notes. (You do start with the notes from AQ so it's easy to add notes and see everything.)

TrailMark and I just released an update to Clue Tracker. It is rolling out to the App Store now, so you should be able to install the update soon.

Here is a list of what's new in version 3.8:
  • Advanced search. On the Location tab, tap “Box Name” to choose a different field to search by such as “Owner” or “Clue Text.”
  • “Open in Apple Maps” feature. When viewing a map within Clue Tracker, tap Map Options and then tap the “Open in Apple Maps” button.
  • Support for MAPS.ME (including “Get Directions” and “Open In MAPS.ME”).
  • Improvements for LbNA boxes:
  •     Hike distance is displayed.
  •     Notes will be saved to the LbNA server if you are logged in.
  •     Clues text will be retrieved from the corresponding Atlas Quest box in more situations.
  •     When recording an LbNA find, you can assign a rating to the box.
  • Improved compatibility with iPad Pro and iOS 9.
  • Miscellaneous fixes and improvements.

As always, feedback is appreciated.
And thanks for using the app!

I have not read all the faqs and updates to the latest Clue Tracker app. Doing so is sort of like that commercial for car insurance where the contract merely says blah-blah-blah (reading contracts and techy stuff is quite boring to me).

Anyway, I had the opportunity to use Clue Tracker with my iPad frequently while traveling and all I did was turn it on and start using. I actually had no problems. My biggest concern was entering a custom address. I couldn't find a way to do that directly in CT. I did log into AQ and enter the custom address there and refresh CT afterwards and that worked well. With the custom address I can just use the app's GPS directions mode (which seems to work great) and get me right to the location. It's oh so easy. As a matter of fact I like the GPS so much I wish I could use it for any address.

The only other downside is that I couldn't find a way to log finds for my spouse who is one of my sub-accounts on AQ. On AQ I'm given that option for all my sub-accounts. Just wondering if I missed something there. I seem to remember a post about updating sharing - there might have been something there to help me in this respect. Maybe I should read the faqs and instructions but I'm probably not going to do so.

Anyway I just wanted to post that I'm really liking Clue Tracker and although it or me has our quirks using it is quite easy.

You do have to add custom locations in AQ
Clue tracker is only logged into your primary account. Not sure how you would save finds to
A different account without logging out
And
Logging into
The sub account

Hi. I am glad that Clue Tracker is mostly working for you and that you find it easy to use.

If you want to have a custom address for a letterbox in Clue Tracker:
1) save the box to your iPad (tap the backpack icon)
2) open the box (if you haven't already)
3) press the Edit button in the top right corner
4) change the address

Alternatively, for saved boxes you can just move the pin on a map. It will fill in the address for you. This way is a bit trickier to do since you have to select the pin before you can move it and you may need to adjust it at various zoom levels to get it to the right location.

For using Clue Tracker for other GPS purposes, create a WOM (word of mouth) box and then add its location by one of the two methods above.

You are the first person to ask about recording finds for sub-accounts. We will need to look into that and see if it is doable for a future version.

Only because I never thought to ask! I am an avid Clue Tracker user. And would love to be able to log finds on our families subaccount.
