my friends and I have discussed to possibility of going but there are those who have said that they are very anti-American.

I went in 1999, and most Turkish folks I met didn't seem to have any problem at all with Americans. Don't tell them you were in Greece earlier in the week--they don't seem to like Greece very much!--but nobody I met had any problems with Americans. Okay, there are a small number of fanatics out there, and when I visited one of the groups had declared "war on tourists," but the typical person you're likely to bump into isn't going to cause you trouble. =)

identity theft ?

So, I have no idea what you would do to find out if your identity was stolen? I have never had that issue, but wonder about something...

Toniht I got an email from Borders. I am in their "frequent buyer" program, where is you spend $150 you get $5 free to use in their store. Well, tonight they sent me the coupon. I thought to myself, "gee, that's odd", since I know that I have been too poor the last several moths to have spent $150 at Borders, especially since I know that I have only been there once in the last few months...

So, I logged in to my Borders account on their website and it said that I spent $81.11 on 5/27 in St Joseph, MO. Now, I have never even been to MO, let alone was I there 3 days ago. What do you guys think? Should I be worried about that?

I do not have a checking account I do not own any credit cards. So, I really don't know how I would even check on something like identity theft if I were to suspect that were an issue? I'm wondering how I would go about checking if there are credit cards out there in my name? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Bird/Magic Era:

Lakers 5 titles
Celtics 3 titles

Head to head Lakers 2 Celtics 1

That is the modern history of the rivalry. No one can argue that the Celtics ruled everone including the Lakers in pre-1970.

Or what about This: http://www.sevengypsies.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=17914&cat=338&page=2

These 7 gypsies people sell a lot of ATC display stuff, spendy, but if you shop around a bit you can get a good price. I think I am finally going to get the cards that fit the spinner I got for Christmas, and then paperclip LTCs to them with the fnacy circle cards, or somehow nattach them. There are also little sleeves to attach to the spinners, and I would reckon if you looked hard enough you could get little books made of the sleeves. How I ever lived without the itnernet and weird little independant art stores around town . . . . .

Go to www.annualcreditreport.com

Based on new federal lending standards, every person is entitled to one free credit report per year from each of the three agencies. If you request one every 4 or so months from a different one of the three, you never have to worry about paying for one. Also, if you have kids, run reports for them. As I hear it, that's the newest identity theft scam which often isn't caught until the child is of age. The website above is very good and explains everything pretty well.

One more thought, isn't the Borders buyer program based on just a name or phone number if you don't have your card with you. Could it just be a name error (or duplicate), a typo, or something like that?

Good Luck

More history:

Lakers have been in more finals than any franchise (This year makes 29th). Only have won half for 14 titles. (5 as Minneapolis)

Celtics appearing in 20th finals. Have won an impressive 16 titles.

Phil Jackson 9-1 in finals.

Lakers 3 titles in 4 appearances in the 21st Century.

Any rate both great franchises! Watch enjoy and lets keep it civil!

That's kind of what I was thinking. I hope that is all it is.

And that is a good thought about running it for kids as well. I always question why my daughter gets credit card offers. I doubt theans anything, it's just junk. Sign up for one magazine subscription (even Ranger Rick) and you get a million things trying to sell you stuff. But, still, you just never do know these days, do you...

I have a question though. Have you actua requested sonething from them before? I looked but it said that you had to print it out. I don't have a printer at the moment. So, would requesting it before Monday when I go to work and can print form there be a waste? Or is it something that I can save and print later? Or have them mail it to me? I don't want to go in and do it and then find out I wasted my free request...

Question for debate.

What do you consider a sport? Does it involve team versus individual, subjective versus objective scoring, does it need to include a ball etc.

For my two cents it can only be a sport if it is indisputable who the winning team is without judges. Everything else is entertainment

That makes the following not sports:

Cheerleading
Figure Skating
Ice Dancing
Diving
Any skiing not involving a race
X-Games anything
Modern Boxing
Gymnastics
T-Ball (or any other youth sport where you don't keep score because it is just for fun)

I've used it several times over the last few years. If I remember correctly, (check the FAQ's) I think the report remains on the website database for 30 days. They assign you an access/security code which will pull the original report anytime you want it during that time. Once the 30 days are up, it will be removed from their database.

I'm logging out now, but if you need more info AQ me or I'll be on boards in the morning.

I have been doing Western Games (barrel racing and the like) since about 5th grade. So as you can imagine I would like my son to enjoy it as well. He normally has to go to the shows anyway so I would think it would be more fun to ride. He has been thinking otherwise until very recently. We bought him a pony just over a year ago because it wasn't working out on a bigger horse so I thought it would go better if he had something smaller and less intimidating. He's never been afraid of our horses and he is around them all the time, but when it comes to riding he has a tendency to freeze when he gets the tinniest bit uncomfortable. Today we had a huge breakthrough with him using the "emergency stop" and after that his attitude completely changed. He had a great day and even cantered through a couple of events....I'm thrilled and he was grinning ear to ear.

Quote you cannot prove that God does not exist - just as no one can prove that he does.

Quite the contrary.

Here, for simplicity let's talk about leprechans. There are exactly two possibilities regarding leprechans: Either they exist or they don't. You cannot prove that they don't exist -- you cannot prove that anything doesn't exist. However, if leprechans did exist, that'd be a simple matter to prove: Just present one. Stand him on the counter and have him dance a little jig for us.

Now imagine those two possible situations again. If leprechans existed, we would expect to have seen them occasionally. Once in a while somebody would capture one and it'd be on the evening news. Every now and then one would be interviewed on Nightline, giving us the leprechani viewpoint on the conflict in Ireland. General Mills would have one or two under contract to make ads for breakfast cereal. Archaeologists would dig up early leprechan bones every now and then and postulate on how leprechans evolved from more primitive species. There wouldn't be the slightest doubt in anyone's mind that leprechans existed, even if they were very secretive indeed.

On the other hand, if leprechans didn't exist, we'd expect to see -- well, pretty much exactly what we see. No hard evidence at all, just some myths and legends that date from long ago.

Now, what a rational thinker would do here is observe that the actual reality fits the pattern of what we would expect to see if leprechans did not exist -- and doesn't at all fit the pattern you'd expect to see if leprechans existed. So the rational thinker would conclude that leprechans do not exist -- even though, technically, it can't be proven.

What an irrational mind would do, apparently, is continue to insist over and over that somebody needs to provide concrete proof that leprechans don't exist.

Now, just for grins, apply the same sort of logic to the following set of possible conditions: Either the founders and leaders of the church were somehow privy to the mind of god, or they are a bunch of scoundrels and charlatans. Think about what you would expect to see presuming either circumstance is true. Then note which fits best with what we actually see happening.

Quote If others want to have faith in a higher power while making their journey through life, why do you care?

Because people believing in such things are having a ruinous effect on mankind. To use a current example, we wouldn't have our soldiers shedding their blood in Iraq and Afghanistan right now if it weren't for such beliefs. And unfortunately, that particular situation is likely to get progressively and significantly worse for the foreseeable future until nukes are detonated -- and it won't stop then. The only possible way to bring this madness to an end is for everyone everywhere to reject the various mythologies that cause them conflict.

Quote You are calling people who believe in god liars because they have no proof. Yet you hold yourself to no similar standard. How do you not see the hypocrisy in that?

Clearly I'm having trouble explaining that. I have no problem with believing in things that actually exist independent of belief; I have a problem with believing in something that requires belief for its very existence. Anything I believe would be unchanged whether I or anyone else believed it or not. But if nobody believed in this whole god myth, it would cease to exist. It cannot exist without the faith.

You don't *have* to print anything out. If I remember correctly when I did it, they eventually give you a PDF to download that you can save, print, or do pretty much whatever you want with. I looked at it, but didn't find any compelling reason to print the documents. Waste of paper and ink if you ask me.

My credit report is pretty darned boring as far as credit reports go. =) A few credit cards show up and that's about it.

I doubt someone impersonating you at Borders will show up, though. ;o)

It is all entertainment.

Quote IrishRef offers: ...it can only be a sport if it is indisputable who the winning team is without judges.

This fails as a criteria. Within the last few weeks, umpires have called foul balls fair and fair balls foul. The Lakers won a game on a non-call, or was it a make-up for the prior blown call that erroneously kept the Spurs in the game. The winners of these games were not indisputable.

Umpires' and referees' calls commonly determine the outcome of games, so why are these pure and sports with judges not? And we know none of the referees were betting on the games...good thing this is not a problem.

Oh, bowling is about as judge/ref-free as possible and bowling is not a sport. You are correct cheerleading it is not a sport.

Do not kid yourself, it is all entertainment.

You know, for someone who likes facts, I'm kind of surprised you didn't bother to check any. According to the CIA's World Factbook:

Christians 33.32% (of which Roman Catholics 16.99%, Protestants 5.78%, Orthodox 3.53%, Anglicans 1.25%), Muslims 21.01%, Hindus 13.26%, Buddhists 5.84%, Sikhs 0.35%, Jews 0.23%, Baha'is 0.12%, other religions 11.78%, non-religious 11.77%, atheists 2.32% (2007 est.)
