Yay! I've been wondering if you'd completed your adventure yet. How did your gear work out?

Some good news our gus is feeling a bit better and even stayed home with us all weekend and didn't have to go to the vet. They have started him on chemo and his gums are starting to get pink. These means his red blood cells are come back. He still gets nausea every now and then. He is however barking at me when I come in the house never have I been so happy to have a dog bark at me.

I have only glanced at the clue for these, but if my suspicions are right I may have a leg up on the competition so to speak.

The parade was tons of fun. People really got dressed up for it. DH had been kind of iffy about going but he had so much fun. It reminded him of what Mardi Gras was like when he was a kid.

Cutest thing in the parade: shetland pony with black wings
Scariest thing in the parade: guy walking near the front of the parade, who was dressed as some sort of demonic monster
Coolest thing: a group riding horses and they were done up as devils/demons/vampires. Sveral of the horses were draft horses. Some of the costumes were eerily spectacular; one woman had weird contacts and her face was made up and she had wings. One person carried a horse skull. So, you had this group coming at you from out of the dark on these big, tall horses with wings and skulls . It looked like something from a fantasy novel.

The font is available online fer free - it is called "Babelstone Pigpen".

I needed to do it as a .jpg instead of the usual .pdf because the cipher came into the .pdf and that would make it too easy. :-)

Happy hunting - it is a very pretty and magical place where the boxes are hidden. Full of interesting things.

Many thanks to everyone for your kinds thoughts, words and concern. I was relieved that x-ray showed my femur doesn't appear be broken (which everyone thought), I need to follow up with orthopedic doctor, ER dr. believes I tore the major muscle. Talk about embarrassing, ambulance, firetruck, neighbors, etc. Just like the commercial, "I've fallen and I can't get up!" While being lifted into ambulance I was calling out to my mother "Did you put everything away?", meaning "did you put LB back in hiding spot?" Turns out in her upset she just gathered everything up and threw it in her bag, which is why I called my good friend Squirrel Nutkin from ER to ask her to contact Guzzlin Gal on AQ to let her know why her brand new box was MIA!! But it's back in place now, I got a very nice First Finders LTC and find number 700!!! Glad it didn't happen with box 699!!
We did two of Guzzelin Gal's newly planted Halloween-themed drivebys, which were terrific, fun way to spend a sunny Halloween afternoon (until this happened!)
So I'll be concentrating on Postals and LTCs for awhile, but this won't stop me from getting back on the trail (no matter what my husband says!)!!! Thanks for all your support, sure is a great group here on AQ, I appreciate it very much.

Box Ranking Confusion

Thread Board
Last month, I had a box series with a blue diamond. I'm ok that it doesn't have a blue diamond this month because I know blue diamonds come and go. I was actually surprised another box of mine got a blue diamond this month. I check my rankings every month just because I like to see how my boxes line up against each other and wanted to see how the blue diamond series from last month lined up this month.

Side note for those that ask about that ~ to see how your boxes line up against each other, click on the Letterboxes menu (actually click the menu, don't drop it down) and find Box Rankings there. You can see where they line up but you cannot see their actual number rankings.

Back on track... my series last month that was on the top of the list of my rankings is now not even ON the list. Anywhere. As I said, I'm ok that Animal Friends lost the blue diamond, but shouldn't it still be on the list in my rankings? Unless all but one person removed their vote? Or am I misunderstanding how the list works? I have over 10 on the list so I know it isn't just the top ten.

If by "participate" you mean "write 3 days before becoming hopelessly behind in word count" then YES, I'm IN!

This is so me, but I'm trying again this year, anyway. Gonna buddy anyone I can, in hopes of sparking my inner competitiveness.

I have her address - just sent her a postal last week.

I had a similar situation - we had a box plated in Maine with some shale rocks in the area. Another boxer fell and broke her leg and never reached the box. I sent her a copy of the image anyway - they were from Texas.

May just be that some folks are on FB all the time anyways. FB is always open on my computer, like most of my class mates (we exchange notes about upcoming exams, changes in scheduling and plans, etc.) so it isn't unusual for our hobbies to be 'disseminated' on there as well (ie fantasy football, farmerville, scrabb-ly, etc.)

I post that I went letterboxing...and have recruited friends in other states to my new addiction, but I send them to AQ because this seems more efficient for putting everything together.

and if you go over to my website and click on the nanowrimo page, there's a buncha AQ people listed there, by their "real" AQ trailnames, who are doing nano. a good place to find inspiration...or desperation...

I've had a couple people with interesting stories when being first finders on my boxes. Which is kind of funny considering I've only planted 7. LOL

I was more concerned about hearing how you were doing than that my box was back in it's place. I guess if you have to be off the trails for a while it was pretty close to the right time of year for it to happen. ;)

it's a really good suggestion. for right now, their AQ name is above the widget. their nano name is on the widget. you could look at the nano name and go look them up.

most of my buddies at nano are also friends at AQ...but there's no way from that end to tell who is who...

I could make links to their nano profiles...hmmm...
I'll have to work on that after I get school and homework done for today.

romana, (trying to be as responsive about her site as GT is with his)

I just found out that a fellow letterboxer was hurt earlier today finding one of my boxes. It had nothing to do with the placement of the box, the wind started blowing her papers around and she quickly ran to catch the papers, but then tripped on a root. Still I feel bad knowing she was getting my box when it happened.

Yikes! I know how you feel. I while back, a good letterboxing friend slipped and fell ....... into the Dragon's Lair of all places!!!! I felt HORRIBLE! This was no small trip - he slipped down a HUGE rock face and into the Pit. His fall was stopped when a large oak tree greeted his ribcage! {{{OUCH}}} ;o(

Fortunately, he was boxing with his partner and after a while he was able to hobble out on his own. There would be NO WAY to get help into that location! Good news - he is fine now! {WHEW!} ;o)

Maine was part of Mass. for a long time, so there is a lot of Maine history in Mass.
Better get down there and get those boxes in that place that we were once part of!!

Good one Seagull. I might just use that line sometime. :D Got to teach that history or it's bound to repeat it's self.

I've got mine still. It was a simple bind, but fitting with the theme. The real treasure was how all the information inside was organised. We have to go back and get all the ones we missed after dashing to get home in time for Prop's kayak class.

I was thinking we should have a mid-winter mini-meet and carve in Guelph. I just have to find a place to do it. It was so great to be able to stamp up inside, out of the cold and wind.

Do any of these kids go to school or daycare? I can only imagine what their teachers might think when they try to get their friends to hide the lock n locks out of their lunches.

3DTs - No, mine aren't in school yet - but we HAVE had playdates where kids take out their lunchboxes and my kids exclaim "A LETTERBOX!!!" And then of course, there's the necessary struggle for who gets to open it - while some poor kid is crying that they took his lunch.

This only happened once...
