Driving down the street yesterday and I realized an entire block is going to be something completely new. Frustrating thing is that I had one of my favorite letterboxes tucked away in a bush there just days before. One of my first plants from 2012. I don't know if I should recarve and replant or not. That old carve of the theater was messy and charming ♡♡♡♡

Snow boxing anyone?

Doublesaj and I found a box here (at Tahoe) during Thanksgiving weekend last November. The box is at the base of the tree that she is pointing at. It might be a little tough to get right now.

Reminds me of a couple of boxes with the "snow friendly" icon and probably buried beneath plowed snow.
Maybe they thought "snow friendly" meant that the box loves the snow piled on it.

Given the number of "snow-friendly" clues I've seen that describe the box as being under a log/at the base of a wall/etc., I'd say that quite a few planters (usually newer planters, but not always) don't understand what the snow-friendly icon means. That's why I always read through the clues before I go after a supposedly snow-friendly box in the winter.

On the other end of the 'snow-friendly' spectrum, we chuckle when a desert box includes that icon. Most likely, they are.

LOL! I guess I shouldn't have used that icon on my plants in New Orleans and the Florida Keys!

If you have snow there them you've got more severe problems and won't be boxing. (Of course here where snow ❄ is usual it's not so unusual that it stops us from boxing.) The only conditions that I can think of that would be worse to box in are a hurricane and a zombie apocalypse.

Sadly I think s lot if carvers had had one of their stamps get bulldozed, cleaned out or paved over.

Mine are all disappearing. I just live in an area where people won't leave boxes alone. Park Rangers don't want them, and growth such as briars and poison ivy grows up around the boxes and envelopes them within 2 or 3 years. One box got burned out in a controlled burn. I'm honestly about to give up on the whole thing. When I do plant something that I think is in a safe area, no one bothers to find the boxes. My most secure box has a key in a combination lock box, and recently someone stole the key. That box cost me $60 to set up. Well, it lasted almost 5 years and 65 finders. I guess that's the best I can do.
Anyway, I sympathise with your frustration.

Upcoming surgery cramping carving

Looks like I'll be having surgery on my dominant wrist and thumb in the near future. DeQuervain's stenosing tenosynovitis, aka Washer Woman's Sprain. I've been dealing with this pain for more than 6 months, including unsuccessful conservative treatments. I'm told it's a simple procedure and it should be an easy recovery. In the meanwhile I don't know when I'll be back to carving and other crafty skills. We laughed when we heard the moniker, Washer Woman's Sprain. Definitely didn't get it from excessive chores. I'm just sad Dad isn't here to oversee the work.
Anyone else have a similar procedure? How long did it take to feel 100%? I have a huge piece of oz-cut that is just waiting.

I boxed thrice in the rain, a light rain. The first time I was looking for a three-box series. I had meticulously followed the directions to the correct location. I searched for at least 15 minutes with no luck. I was going to go for the next box then it started raining, lightly. I figured that I didn't want to ruin the log book when I found it so I decided to leave and come back another time.
The box owner confirmed later that the box was actually missing. I haven't been back, yet, but I'm going to go back some day and find this well-liked series.
The second time it was raining off and on. I had an opportunity when it wasn't raining to get the two boxes in this series. I stamped into the first one, but some rain got onto my log book and smeared the ink. I was very careful in stamping in with the second stamp.
The third time I was close enough that when I found the box I took it to my car to stamp in.
I've geocached in rain and snow, but I'm more careful when letterboxing because the most important part of the find is the image which is likely to get smeared (get's wet and the ink runs) the more moisture (solid or liquid) is falling.
I know that people will carry a transparent rain poncho so that they can stamp in a downpour, but I haven't done that yet.

Boxer Lover47 found one that was bulldozed, A Boon To The Sun Seeker. I found it too, but after it had been rescued.

Yes, I am happy with how manh finders it got, it was one of my most popular boxes. I did have one near a lighthouse that got about 40 finders in 2 years, and then went missing. That was really fun! But I expected that one to disappear even quicker, because of its location.

A heads up to boxers in the Northeast: Ecologists are predicting that 2017 will be a particularly risky year for Lyme Disease. :(
Like they used to say on Hill Street Blues, "Let's be careful out there."

I got it twice last year and once the year before. My DO has seen way too many undiagnosed cases go bad, with patients needing PICC lines for *life* that he treats my tick bites aggressively when I get them.

Many, many years ago I had what the doctor called DeQuervain's Disease in my right wrist. It was so bad I couldn't comb my kids' hair sometimes. I got a few cortisone shots-some help, some made it worse. The Dr. said it was common to women due to ironing. Sometime between then and now 'it just stopped'. (As Eddy Murphy said about his truck in Bev. Hills Cops.)

When it comes to treating an injury, their definition of 100% isn't what condition you were previously in before you developed the issue, but more like how well they expect you to heal afterward. So there's that. But usually the relief you receive is much better than the debilitation/pain you were suffering before the surgery. As for OZ, I'm not too sure how that's gonna feel after healing. Might want to try some alcohol scrubbing of the surface first to get rid of that sheen.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, and a quick and painless procedure!
