It varies from event to event. Sometimes the become permanent plants, and sometimes they go elsewhere. A lot of it depends on what the carver wants - most stamps at an event are donated.

What Fiddleheads said! If the carvers want to donate their stamps to be permanent, then they will be available at any time. This is my first time organizing this event, so I am not sure yet what the status of the stamps will be! The stamps that I will personally carve will remain in place for the future.

I am so grateful for everyone who said they will help carve a stamp or two! I emailed out a list of suggestions, but of course, you can choose something else! Please let me know ASAP what you have decided to carve so we don't have overlaps. I will need the stamps by Sep 15, by mail. THANK YOU so much! I look forward to coming up with clues etc!

We are spending day in Guelph letterboxing.

This is so cool! This will be our first event. What do these normally look like? I'm glad the sign up mentioned social distancing and all that - will it be less social than usual then?

Since we've never done an event, is there anything we should know about what to bring/do that differs from the regular hunt?

Hi Cogswort! I am very glad you decided to join the event! I will send out details about the day soon to all who signed up. Basically you arrive between 9-11 am to register and get the clue sheet (I will post them as well in the group by 11 pm the night before). Then you look up the locations on a map and follow the clues to find the stamps. About 20+ stamps will be available. From 5-7 pm there will be a social at a Brew House, where we can each bring our own dinners and easily keep a distance. We stamp the event stamp and people's personal travellers there. It shouldn't be less fun than our typical socials :) Make sure you bring many colours of ink, because some stamps require for example "red" or "green" only to be used.

Events come in all shapes and sizes. In Ontario, we take turns hosting, and each host does things a little differently. Sometimes we book an indoor space where we can hang out, so in that way it's a bit more social than what will happen this year.

Some of us have been at this for a number of years and we know each other from attending these annual events. Others we've never met. Either way, you'll be welcomed. Ontario letterboxers are a great bunch.

Since Covid put a wrench in many people's plans to attend the event on Sep 26, 2020, we have decided to host a "re-do" Spring Fling gathering for those who missed it or didn't finish all the trails! The event is now posted. Mark your calendars and let's hope it will be better in April!

Hello my ON letterboxing friends. Just checking in to say hello. Over the past several days I have gone through all of my planted letterboxes and read comments and listed 'last found' dates. (I have an awesome spreadsheet now, so I can keep track easier). So many memories of happy times planting letterboxes and finding some of your letterboxes. (Was it really already a decade ago?) So very cool to see how many of mine are still out there and are still being found. Hope you are all keeping well during these very interesting and trying times. (A great time to plan, plant and find more letterboxes.) I have started planting more letterboxes here in BC and am planning a (Covid safe) event in February for a very small group of families. Will see if it can happen. Trying to get some new letterboxers here in the Shuswap, BC.

Due to Covid restrictions, Riverdale Farm is closed right now. That means that my box, My Favourite Goat, is unavailable. When they open back up, I'll change the status back. It should still be there though!

I am glad there is to be a re-do as I have only just found the posting. I am not too far from Newmarket so I hope to attend. All being right with the world.

EDITED April 2/2021: Despite the Ontario-wide shutdown, this event can proceed safely. We can keep 6 feet apart on the trails and you can bring a hand sanitizer if you wish. Unfortunately since all restaurants and picnic areas are currently closed, we can not have the social at 5pm as planned. Instead, I will set-up a table at the registration where you can access a few additional stamps. Details will be sent out to all who have registered for this event.

Join us for the BoxON! 2020 Vision event on April 24, 2020. A spring gathering (a re-do!) for those who missed it and those who couldn't finish all the trails. New letterboxers also welcome of course! It will follow the same format. Registration 9-11 am. 4 forest trails. Looking forward to a great day!

Has anyone volunteered to host this fall?

I was wondering because I promised to invite you all back when the elevated park was finished. AND it is finished! Our city has been very busy during the pandemic and we have many new beautiful murals, more walking and hiking trails, Password1 Park which is a multi-use facility and so much more going on.

So if someone hasn't already volunteered I would love to host Box ON 2021.

At BoxOn 2020, Jiggs and Kenlaur mentioned that they were thinking of doing it in Belleville. I was in touch with Jiggs around March, and he was still planning on doing it then, but haven't heard anything else about it since.

I guess I'll wait to hear from Jiggs and Kenlaur.

2022 Pam! I was just telling someone about that park yesterday as we were looking at the rail bridge in Paris. I'd LOVE to go back to St. Thomas!

I promised when the St Thomas Elevated Park was complete I would invite you all back for a visit. It's done! And it's beautiful!

Bring your letterboxing supplies because there will be some new boxes planted. Bring your camera to photograph the stunning fall scenery from the heights of the elevated park. Bring your appetite for supper at a local restaurant.
