I wondered who'd get around to mentioning that. The poster acknowledged restricted and mystery boxes. It also could be WOM or a bonus box. I realize things are different in other parts of the country, but around here the possibility that it's restricted is by far the least likely scenario, and LbNA is the most likely.

I did a quick look at my listings, and about 1/3 of my boxes have restrictions. (>.<)

If there is no retrievable information about the last finder in the log book or the planter I think you did exactly the right thing.
Sometimes when you're far from home you just have to let it be....
Maybe try a boxer that lives near the box. Maybe they are aware of it... just thinking out loud.

If the box had mentioned Atlas Quest leading people to this website, it's probably listed here. It might be restricted, although if it does it's probably a very low one. It might be a "mystery" box as well--either because it's a genuine mystery box or because the person didn't list a very accurate location.
If they had listed their trailname on the box, the letterboxER can still be looked up and contacted. It's generally a good idea to include your trailname on your boxes so muggles can contact you if needed! Especially if the box has restrictions that a would make it impossible for them to look up.

Check LbNA as well. Get the name of the planter from the logbook, or the last finder, and email them here and on LbNA so they can verify you got it back in the right place. Do the hokey pokey and you. . . got all distracted.

I completely agree. However, the OP didn't just join in order to post about it. They've been a member for six months and already knew of mysteries and restrictions before their discovery of this box, but may not know of letterboxing.org
It's certainly a lot more common now, but there are still hundreds of older local AQ boxes without them out there, and hundreds more not on AQ around here.

Good luck with that. I've tried for other boxers with their planting issues and get nowhere.
(Dirt lover tree hugger box was an problem box that never did get solved)

Email me with all the information you found on the box, including town, park, area, any names in logbook, description of stamp, etc. Since you're new, it may be restricted to 10 finds or 1 plant, so you can't see it until you meet the requirements.
But I can try to look it up if you contact me with any info.

As my great-grandmother used to say, a man and a dog can go anywhere!

Hmmm...
Msg: 921209 from this thread tigs says
and Msg: 921250 from this thread says
These are different threads, but...
Also I have no issue with those who don't record finds, but I am just wondering why anyone who DOES NOT LOG IN FINDS asks

Even with no trail name, your town has a name, and you can describe the area (nearest roads, etc). You're not giving us anything to work with, not even the state, or a description of the stamp. Some of us like to solve these kinds of mysteries, are totally willing to help, but that's ok...
I also just wanted to add that many Girl.Scouts do not list their boxes, which I find annoying when I find them, but that's ok. I can log mine with my premium perk.

Perhaps that member signed onto the site to learn about our hobby before taking the plunge and actually searching for a letterbox. Even back in the day, I subscribed to the relevant yahoogroup and read it for several months before going out to actually find a letterbox. Not every forum posting is meant to randomly push someone's buttons.
