When my kid was getting shots he was given the MMR. He went into anaphylactic shock. Was immediately carted next door to the hospital and tubed, IVed, and monitors every where. It was scary. The attending doctor told us then. No more multiple vaccines. That all should be given individually. He was adamant. Apparently we were the second admit that day over vaccines. We do vaccinate, but only one at a time and not on the same day. No live virus via inoculation.

Not against it, but got a real life lesson very quick. Apparently reactions are common and it is sad.

I am sorry to hear about ill anyone especially kiddos. :(.

Reactions are common; but at least 15 years ago there were questions about whether the insurance would cover them. So they don't always get reported properly. :-(

I had a (thankfully brief) period of partial paralysis thanks to the dT vax. Doctors tell me that the risk is statistically insignificant to begin with; but I don't particularly want a repeat episode. And it makes me scared for my kids! (Who were vaccinated under an alternate schedule)

I think the scariest part, for me, is that now when I bring up my concerns over *already experienced* reactions and minimizing future reactions, the current medical care system we're under waves a dismissive hand and reassures me that autism and vaccines are not connected (Gone through several drs and nurses in the same system). :-(

Well, mine had his back in August, but we all got the flu anyway! The one that lasts for weeks. He also had the respiratory virus that was causing kids to be hospitalized last fall(luckily he was not). But he had to be on 2 inhalers...it was really scarey! So now we get the official letter from school about how many days of school he has missed, and being a responsible parent, etc. My hubby was livid!

My daughter has migraines and gets that letter every year. :-( I would think that they could at least filter out the people with doctors notes for getting that letter! Responsible parents take care of their kids rather than using the school nurse's office as daycare.

And I bet the flu would spread a lot slower if people kept their kids home when they were sick; even if they are still healthy enough to 'power through'.

Bluesky... schools are required to send out the letters. In some states they are also required to report to child protective services any child who has missed more than 10 days of school.

Vaccinating is a personal choiceI completely agree. For me the benefits outweigh the risks. So many people have died over the years from diseases that are now almost completely preventable by vaccine. Yes there are absolutely risks with vaccines but they are minimal. Then again there are risks with basically everything in life from getting in a car to on an airplane. Is there a risk getting on an airplane...absolutely. the benefits are that you can travel to places you may not have otherwise been able to and get quicker to other places. Of course you can crash and the outcome would most likely be death. But the benefits to me are worth the risk because with realistic statistics the risk is overwhelmingly low. Once again...personal choice.
Both my son and I have tons of allergies his are mostly to foods which also contain poisons nowadays and mine are mostly to medicines. So I did have to do research and weigh risks when it came to him, but I also had to weigh the fact that our allergies and other issues cause us to have weakened immune systems. Vaccinating then became entirely too important. My son having the flu can put him in the hospital for a month. So I get him the shot and take the risk. It sucks that there is a risk but unfortunately there are no guarantees with anything. However getting the shot does provide him with a little extra protection, the same as it does the majority of people.
I know this post probably stirred up many feelings of people for and against vaccinating. In the end we are all worried parents when it comes to our kids. I am so sorry Miss C that you had to go through this with your daughter. I'm glad she is feeling better!!! My condolences and best wishes to everyone that has had a reaction due to vaccinating or because of choosing not to.
