I don’t stamp into a traditional logbook, instead I stamp on plain, white card stock. After I stamp up, I put the printed clue and box info on top of the sheet of cardstock (or sheets of it’s a series that takes more than one piece of paper) so that I can type and print it on the cardstock later. Then I can add that to the pages when I scrapbook them.

I do similar — my actual logbook stays home, and I bring a stack of unlined notecards that I’d hole-punched and keep together with one of those circle binder clips. (I want to be able to restamp if my first impression doesn’t come out well!)

Once home, I trim around the stamp image and glue that down into my logbook with the stamp name, where it was found (city & state, park or trail network name), date, planters name, and when it was planted.

I’ll often add other notes — anything interesting seen along the way, little details from the adventure that I don’t want to forget, sometimes I’ll add in a copy of the clues if they were particularly unique, or a photo or two from the hike. If there’s anything especially note-worthy such as being first finder (or first finder after a really long time!) I’ll jot that down too.

My logbook is like a very un-fancy scrapbook, I guess. No stickers or patterned papers or washi tapes or whatever, but it winds up being more of a visual journal of my letterboxing experiences.
Found HH again

So when I come across an HH, I don't spend the time opening it, I just stick it in my bag and bring it home, so I can relax and enjoy reading the logbook, where it has traveled, all the dates on it. etc.

However, a few times, I open the log book and notice that I already found it. 😳

So what do people generally do when the realize they already found the HH in another location? do they log it as a new find, or do they just plant it somewhere else?

I have been logging them in again as new finds, but not because of the count, but because the owner and others who follow HH's might want to see where its traveled.

I can always just let owner know, but sometimes the owner hasnt logged in for a long time, but then others cant enjoy on where it has traveled.

There are some HH's that I have on my watch list because they were so old, and I really like to see it travel. (is that weird?🤔)

Is there some rule about this, or is it one of those 'do whatever you want' kinda things, no one gives a 💩

Any thoughts on this?

I don't know for sure, but I think if you log it again it doesn't add to the count, but just changes the date, so I don't think it would matter. If it were my HH, I would like to get a notice that it was found again and where and the next finder would know when it was actually found last.

Go to My Page, Preferences, Letterbox & Searches, and you can set what your own definition of an old last find is.

Besides traditional letterboxes, what other types of letterboxing activities do you participate in? LTC's? Postal trading?

I used to participate in both Postals and LTC's, but haven't really had the time to do these extra curricular activities in the past several years.

So what do people generally do when the realize they already found the HH in another location? do they log it as a new find, or do they just plant it somewhere else?

I log it again so there is a record of where it has been. I try to always include city and state in "Where Found" when logging so there is a trail of where it has been. Apparently some people like to put the actual box where it was found for "Where Found" but I think it's more fun to list city/state which better illustrates the travels.

And then I hang on to the HH until I am farther away from home so it does not boomerang again! Since we travel a lot this usually means waiting just a few weeks.

I also tag all found HH with the silver whistle tag which I have labeled HH Tracker. This allows for an easy search to check up on the HH I have found in the past and see where they have traveled to! It's helpful to sort the search results by "last found date" so recent activity is displayed first. This might be a premium only feature, not sure.

Finding traditionals are my favorite, but I love events as well. And, as Dawnkey said, Great Lakes Letterboxing Bingo is a wonderful way to spend the winter months.

EXTREME GEOMAGNETIC STORM--NOW! The biggest geomagnetic storm in almost 20 years is underway now. It has reached category G5--an extreme event. Sky watchers with dark skies may be able to see and photograph auroras even at low latitudes. Get away from city lights and look at the sky!

If you are above 39 degrees latitude and have clear skies go outside somewhere dark and enjoy the show. Viewing may be possible as far south as Alabama.

New Box in St. Louis - Need Help

I planted this box on a recent trip to St. Louis. First, I'd like to apologize because it was a rush job and not my best effort at clue-writing, so I'm afraid the clue is too vague to easily find the box.

So I'm asking for help. If you're thinking about going to look for it, please contact me first, and I'll send you more specific info so that you can actually find it. And if you do find it, maybe you can suggest an edit to the part of the clue that is currently too vague. Same goes for if you've already unsuccessfully looked for it and didn't leave a comment.

I think the clues are find through "the letterbox that stood out front." It's the next line with "swooped right across the grass to a small 3- or 4-trunked tree" that is problematic.

Again, apologies, and thanks in advance for any help.
