I’ll go! Me me me! I don’t mind snakes; I find them fascinating - from a distance.

There’s a bird there for you, Colima Warbler. You must leave with headlights before morning to make the straight up climb in order to get back the same evening. Lots of other good birdies in the area. It’s pretty remote out there so plan way ahead. There’s a two year reconstruction going on at the cabin lodges so there are closures to keep in mind.

March or April are good months for wildflowers if there has been rain, and the weather is cooler then.
If you are going to be there then, you have to do the Dagger Flat Auto Trail. When that high concentration is blooming, it's just stunning!

We are visiting cape canaveral and going to st. Augustine and possibly Miami. We’re only going to Epcot as we’re not huge Disney people. We’re at the Delaney hotel downtown for the first week and close to universal for the second week. We’ve never been to FL but I have a cousin who lives near Orlando, so I imagine we’ll be seeing her a lot. But the second week we may have time after my conference day!
Anything else we should see or do? What are the good spots and bad spots? Any hot boxes we shouldn’t miss?

Running into two letterboxers in the same day!?!

I don’t post here often but something happened today while letterboxing in Virginia that I found crazy.
Me and MartyrOfMight ran into two separate letterboxers in the wild today completely by accident! Has this ever happened before to anyone else twice in the same day?
First we ran into ChikkisGarden at a cemetery while looking for a box, and then Maphead Mike downtown looking for a different box about an hour later. We all ended up exchanging and it was great!
Just surprised me that this happened twice in one day after only happening to me once before, 14 years ago.

That's pretty cool.

So your next scheduled encounter is 28 years from now?

Truly quite the coinky-dink… lol. I never expected it to really be a thing! And it was the highlight of my day!! It was so nice to meet all three of you in the real world after seeing your siggys so many times in log books and finding so many of your plants.

Very cool that you are heading Cape Canaveral way! I’ve seeded it pretty good with boxes that are predominantly drive- bys. With the exception of a few boxes most of them will take you to water views of the Banana River, Port, Jetty, & Atlantic Ocean with free parking and bathrooms. In April the manatees may have come back full time from the springs so a manatee sighting could be a bonus?
If you are short on time, skip the 3 boxes at the distillery. They are decent enough stamps but nothing to really see. They are there because the distillery is within walking distance of Terminals 1 & 2 at the Port (and I work there so they were planted with permission) 😉.
Let me know when you head to CC and maybe we can meet up and do an exchange!

Getting close to retiring so I am excited to start taking long car rides and check out all these interesting places.
As for snakes, im a wimp, no thank you.
I have been to the everglades numerous times and had to walk very slowly to pass a few gators on the trail. Give me a gator any day over a snake. Those guys freak me out.

It's always an unexpected treat to encounter other boxers. We once crossed paths with the same group of boxers twice in one day at completely different locations! That was interesting.

The Grand Opening for our store is March 12th to 15th, and several letterboxers have been like enough to carve stamps to be planted around the store. Yay!
If you are going to be in the area of the Great Smoky Mountains, we invite you to stop by. Tennessee Readiness is a camping, hiking, survival, and Smoky Mountain gift store.
Heartfelt thank yous to Bungalow Boxer, Silver Snoots, jolittleRose, Basset Mom, Owl bcnu, and Red Bird for carving over a dozen stamps for the store.

Postcard LTC specifications.
Board: LTC: Trades and Trackers
Mar 1, 2026 10:21am
I use cardstock that is .002 per sheet, based on measuring a stack of 20 sheets. If postcards are going missing, it might be due to the specifications.
USPS material specifications for postcards:
Minimum Size: 3.5 x 5
Maximum Standard Size: 4.25 x 6
Thickness: 0.007" – 0.016"
Shape: Must be rectangular
Finish: Can be glossy or matte, but must be able to be processed by machines.
Surface Obstructions: No items like stickers, magnets, or appendages that make the card uneven or too thick, as these may require higher postage or make it nonmailable.
Address Area: The right half (or bottom right) of the back side must be kept clear for the address and barcode.

Thanks for the information on cardstock specs. All I have ever seen on cardstock refers to thickness by weight - 90-pound, 120-pound, etc. Do you happen to know what the weight equivalent is, relative to the thickness?

Basically, the USPS is expecting "90 pound" cardstock. AI claims that is "0.0074 to 0.0122 inches"
AI claims 120lb is 0.0145-0.018 - potentially I tiny fraction too large.
The .002 measurement is probably the pages not perfectly pressed together when measuring a stack and accuracy in the measuring equipment.

I have also seen postcards laminated on one side only (not the address side), and that would make a difference in thickness. I wonder if USPS would consider that a “sticker”?

If you keep your entire logbook private anyone who might want to check out your logbook for your plants won’t be able to see them.

I've been sending laminated postcards thru the mail for over 10 years without incident... I have found that certain employees do tend follow 'guidelines' differently. That's why I go on Saturday - Colin is a peach - the guy there during the week is a pit...

I’ve been using 110# card stock with no laminate and no issues. Often the postal barcode will not print on laminated cards which then requires an extra step of the barcode sticker. I have also successfully used wide packaging tape on the front (picture side) only with no problems.

I usually laminate only the front side of my postcards to protect the artwork, and to prevent the card from getting torn. I've never had any problems mailing them.

The point is that I’m surprised and intrigued by what is getting through the post office as it relates to postcard LTCs: Double sided lamination, multiple layers of cardstock, stickers, glitter and more.
So I looked up what the usps allows. A good point was made during the discussion: some postal employees enforce rules and some don’t.
