I started this topic on another post, and I'll continue it over here. I think there is an overall lack of quality hitchhikers.

I agree, although a recent exception is SpringChick's Haunted HH series. They are top shelf!

Other than than, most that I've found have been less than outstanding. It seem that HHs are mostly discarded stamp carving attempts or early efforts.

I did like Big Hair, just for the cheesy memories, so sometimes the theme is what makes it worthwhile too.

You know, Phyto, it's not good to hold back like that. Tell us what you *really* think! ;o)

I've basically stopped hiding hitchhikers. I used to do it when they were extremely uncommon and a real surprise to find, but now that they've reached 'mainstream' status, I'm more inclined to put my energy somewhere else and raise the letterboxing bar with new and creative ideas. (Not that I've had any of those recently either, but you never know when inspiration will strike!)

Big Hair was great, like Mark said for 80's memories! I found that one twice!

I agree that most HH's I find are pretty medocre. The hand carved stamps look like they took all of 5 minutes to design and carve. And store bought stamps in hitchhikers, what's with that? Yuk! The exception is last week I found Dragonfly's Smeagol HH. It is a very nice hand carved stamp, with a hand made log book, and the stamp and log book are in hand made felt pouches with very pretty buttons for closures. I can see that quite a bit of work went into this HH. I almost feel like this is too nice for a hitch hiker. I mean hitchhikers do take a lot of abuse out there in the weather.

I am signed up for a lot of postal letterboxes so I will probably put this HH in a postal box rather than sending poor Smeagol out in the elements. I mean, after all, someone did steal his precious. I have lost interest in creating HH'ers. I am finding right now that making postal boxes is fun. The ability to include "props" in your box makes postal boxes a lot of fun.

To comment on Amanda's concern that people don't contact the HH creator even when the HH specifically says to -- I always try my best to contact the HH creator when an email address is given. People are always happy to hear that their HH is doing well. I tell them where I found it but unless someone specifically asks where I planted it, I don't provide that information. Of course if the creator asked me I would tell them.

Yes, Ryan, because NOTHING on this site is either new or creative...
