I created a Marjorie memorial song titled "Honk Her Home" for anyone who's interested.

The video version that displays the lyrics can be found at https://www.atlasquest.com/press/2026/honk-her-home.mp4 while the MP3 you can play on your favorite music listening device is located at https://www.atlasquest.com/press/2026/honk-her-home.mp3.

Rest in peace, little nugget!

In Loving Memory of Marjorie, Queen of Chaos, Honker of Hearts

🎉 WE’RE HIRING A NEW MASCOT! 🎉

Do YOU have what it takes to carry the torch (and maybe a snack pouch)?

About the Role

Atlas Quest seeks a new mascot to step into the… well… enormous metaphorical shoes left behind by the late, great Marjorie. She was bold. She was loud. She once chased a stamp thief across three ecosystems and a parking lot. We miss her dearly — but the trails must go on.

We’re looking for someone who can honor her legacy while bringing their own brand of delightful nonsense to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Radiate pure chaotic joy
  • Strike heroic poses in unpredictable weather
  • Deliver high‑quality honks, quacks, squeaks, or other mascot‑appropriate noises
  • Pose majestically for photos, even when startled
  • Maintain trail morale through interpretive dance, dramatic entrances, or snack distribution
  • Protect stamp boxes from raccoons, pranksters, and suspiciously moose‑shaped individuals
  • Attend community events, parades, and the occasional courtroom appearance
  • Demonstrate unwavering enthusiasm, even when feathers, fur, or antlers are askew
  • Make children laugh, adults smile, and squirrels reconsider their life choices
  • Embody the spirit of adventure, mischief, and community that Marjorie championed
  • Be prepared to be loved, adored, and occasionally mistaken for a very large duck

Qualifications

  • Must be able to withstand light teasing from squirrels
  • Ability to run, waddle, strut, or glide preferred
  • Experience in mascotting, mischief, or mild chaos a plus
  • Must not be currently under investigation for stamp tampering
  • Ability to honk with emotional nuance strongly encouraged

Preferred Traits

  • Big heart
  • Big energy
  • Big commitment to the bit
  • Big shoes (optional but symbolic)

Compensation

  • Unlimited trail mix
  • Occasional applause
  • A lifetime supply of community affection
  • One (1) commemorative feather from Marjorie’s honorary cape
  • The chance to become a legend whispered about by hikers for generations

How to Apply

Submit your résumé with your qualifications, skills, experience, and at least two credible references.

...most of them weren't taken by the first finder

Really? That surprises me!
I love a sticker or die-cut that I can add to my logbook.

I'd wonder if it was regional, but we both in the Midwest

It is with heavy hearts and slightly confused expressions that we announce the passing of our beloved mascot, Marjorie “Marge” Quack.

Please, say it isn't so!! 😢

That's a good point. I've only ever hidden mine in Michigan with most of them being on the west side of the state. I visit the Detroit area often and I'm not sure if the stickers would do well down there.

I do like the idea of removing the "first" part that way someone else down the line could take it.

We don’t do a lot of FF prizes around here (or maybe people do, and they’re gone by the time I find the box!). I certainly appreciate FF prizes such as stickers, so I’m surprised nobody takes yours.

I’m not sure how long an appropriate mourning period would be. I hope it will end before PAL Day so we don't leave tears leading to the multitudes of new plants.

Oh, Marjorie-you are already missed!

Dude, wait, what!? Marjorie is a duck!!! With that pointed beak? I thought she was a chick.

Regardless, I hereby toss my hat into the ring. Let's take a looksee:
~Radiates pure chaotic joy - check
~Strike heroic poses in unpredictable weather - check
~Maintain trail morale through interpretive dance, dramatic entrances, or snack distribution - me
~Make children laugh, adults smile, and squirrels reconsider their life choices - me, me, me

Well I think you get the idea. However, we need to renegotiate the starting salary. I love trail mix - who doesn't? - but I'm thinking more along the lines of unlimited cats.

You can save yourself some time and trouble by moving my application to the top of the list.

I can start anytime - how does tomorrow work for you?

I understand that feeling, but don't usually add first finder prizes.

The first time I found your letterboxes, I found five or so on the same day. Maybe I was the first finder on one. If you had a sticker, I probably took one unless it wasn't noticed.

However, if I was the first finder on all five in the same day, the sticker would've stayed in a few of them. Others may feel the same way. They may want others to share in first finder stickers.

I've only been ff on one of your boxes (Green Oaks Academy - MDOC), but I happily took the butterfly. Thank you! It's stuck right there in my logbook.

Like koalacat said, if I were first-finder on several of your boxes in one day, I would probably leave most of the stickers because I wouldn't want to hog them.

And when I've found patches in boxes, I'll usually take them, but not if I already have one like it.

I definitely don't expect first-finder prizes, but it's always a happy surprise to come across one. I also love hitchhikers, bonus boxes, and quisps.
